Pet peeves: The return (Part 4)

was going to post a news article but every single one I saw used ‘ex-Soviet’ in the title and a quick check of Estonia’s history shows that, uh

umm

not sure about that one chief

I saw that some Reuters article wrote ‘first central European country to legalize same-sex marriage’, which is… pretty funny.

But yeah, most Estonians don’t really like to be called ex-Soviet since we never were Soviet to begin with, we were occupied. Can’t really call India and USA ex-British countries, right?

Ngl I am positively surprised Estonia legalized gay marriage.
Most estonians I’ve met have been for lack of a better word outright homophobes and in one case deffo in denial about his bisexuality.

But go Estonia!!! Another step away from association with awful neighbors

I’m a bit behind on how Latvia and Lithuania are doing, but Poland is in a dire state for several human rights and discriminations, especially LGBTQ+ & or women. (And ethnic minorities).

Belarus and Russia are very much in the same spot.

But very good steps Estonia! Now continue on this way/spread it around!

Not great in terms of LGBTQ+ rights to my knowledge, BUT! Latvia did just recently elect their first openly gay president!

Apparently he’s also the first openly gay president in the EU? Which is pretty funny, not gonna lie.

That is pretty cool actually and also a nice step forward!

I am openly a big supporter of cutting back all the money the EU is sending to Poland until they comply with the human rights the rest of the union have.
Same for Hungary.

From what I’ve gathered, the current government is using this as both a pro and con to scare/lie things up for voters.

On one hand claiming the money is just used to buy influence/coerse and they don’t need it, but when threatened to have it removed, cry about how it’s evil by the EU to take it away for “believing the wrong things” etc.

Visited Vienna for the first time with wife over the weekend. What a beautiful city. We took our bicycles with us, which was a genius idea, because it freed us from public transport and enabled us to quickly get to where we need to. At the same time, if you’re super into architecture, you might be better off just walking, because every 2 meters there is something photograph-worthy.

On the first day we visited a serpentwithfeet concert that we’ve actually learned about only when we were already on the train to vienna. Nice music! Actually my first live concert experience.
Other highlights include participating in the pride parade, visiting Albertina (art museum) secession (art too), st. Stephen’s cathedral and Kapuzinergruft (where Habsburgs are burried).
We will definitely travel there again at some point, because there are still many things we want to see and we only had so little time.

Leo agrees, poor animal is covered in long hair.

Saw a promo vid for a yuri light novel series (“The Story of Buying a Classmate Once a Week”) with Kana Ichinose and Lynn voicing the main characters in the advert.

I see what you’re doing there.

And it’s working.

Transmasc boxer is now 3-0 for fights. Boy’s rocking it, but Im sure the usual phobes and bigots will make not a peep about it :thinking::thinking:

b-b-bbut he’s trying to beat up women right!!!

nevermind that he’s fighting cis men, it’s totally a ploy!

(they then link some other trans fighter as proof, bonus points if it’s the one who was forced to fight women because he was a transman forced to fight cis women due to Rules)

From the last time I saw someone have a meltdown over trans people competing, their whole shtick was that it was the transwomen that were evil/trying to cheat and the transmen were just confused and shouldn’t fight because they’d get pummel by the peak specimen that is the cis men fighters.

It’s all madness.
