That reminds me…
I’ve literally lost count on how many people I’ve seen the past two weeks being against Pride and just pulling arguments against transgendered people out of their a**. Me and my friend had a long conversation about this yesterday, about how people have been saying that Pride has become ‘‘too much’’ and is not ‘‘needed’’, when literally a year ago there was a shooting at a popular gay bar in our country. LGBTQ+ people are literally being targeted and harassed where I live, but appearantly Pride isn’t needed because we’re such a developed country according to so many.
Absolutely. In my experience, the people who claim that Pride has become too much, either didn’t know it was a thing or never paid an ounce of attention on it until more people started talking about it.
It also tends to be the people that go “I don’t mind gays but-” (Usually “But I dont want to see” in some variety).
Also the same people that will always argue that any LGBTQ+ character in any media no matter who or what is “badly written” because its mentioned at some point that they are non-het/non-cis.
Pet Peeves: The forum occasionally bugs out and stops letting me swap alts.
Trying to swap to Taramis to click like on all the people posting on the brigante post. <3
“I don’t mind transgenders, they can do what they want, as long as they stay in their own bathroom and stop forcing it down my throat”
Riiiiiight? I’m getting mixed signals here.
Usually followed by:
“Didn’t you read me, I said I don’t mind them, I’m not a transphobe, I’m not even afraid of them!”
Riiiiiiight?
It’s a bit like someone in casual conversation saying “I don’t mind red bricks as long as they’re not part of my house” to which you would probably wonder why they have an issue with red bricks otherwise they wouldn’t have mentioned them at all.
I think the issues boils down to NIMBYism largely, which is a hallmark of slacktivism. Though it doesn’t just apply to LGBT things but any sort of social issue, tokenistic popular support to make the beige masses feel good but when it’s knocking on their door or actually forcing them to confront their own prejudices?
Which is why I largely stopped supporting mass corporatist, capitalist friendly Pride related shoehorns. I’m sorry but you’re a company who operates in countries that execute men and women for loving one another.
To make the analogy better, it’s more like ‘I don’t mind red bricks but I’m sick of them being used in buildings’ which like cool beans David nobody asked you
“It is pride month. Change all our flag overlays on social media PR department!”
“When you say all does that include the twitter account for the middle eas-”
“No of course not that one, don’t be stupid. They might think we actually support this stuff and stop buying our products. Think about the profits you idiots.”
This is the part where I roll my eyes at the people (in general, as in this isn’t aimed at you ) who cannot seperate the obvious corporate ‘We’re not evil, soulless corporations, honest!’ activity, and the ‘We still need Pride because the hatemongers haven’t given up wanting us dead, and we’re still here so Up theirs.’
Both can be true at once. It’s the same attempted ‘gotcha’ by people who see any criticism of A Certain Islands leaders as excusing The Others massive, systemic faults.
No, absolutely not, but I can still prefer the Lesser of two Evils, you absolute melt…
Guys and girls,I have started to replay the Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty campaign, and even though I did this song and dance tons of times before I have to ask for help again…
Executive Dysfunction do be kicking my rear something hard today. Which double sucks, because I was home by just after lunch, so that’s hours gone with nothing really to show for it :<
Yeah I read that, and later on I even see Spectres with the Dominion forces somewhere during Legacy of the Void I believe.
Normally I took those canon choices aswell, but I hear that apparently upgraded ghosts are good against Kerrigan with their snipe ability and I was hoping to try that out. Just sad I have to trade Tosh for that
Oh that -is- pretty neat! Alas Gabriel, for now I’ll go on without you. As for the Broodlords though, I dunno, I tend to take out the air units at the end of the campaign as I feel more confident taking on the Nydus worms by just bunkering up and plopping down a Psi Disruptor to slow down enemy units and going out with banshees to nuke the worms. And this time I took the extra HP on bunkers upgrade instead of the gun so I should be able to reliably hold the line.
That and in a way, I’d still rather the corpos do superficial tokenistic support than nothing at all or active harm.
As long as you remember corpos aren’t your friends, it’s still nice to see the rainbow colours everywhere (except Middle East and China ha ha ha ha ha).
It’s especially (not) funny when some corpos do pride marketing that end up in big media hysteria over wokism in the company while the actual company remains a big donator to conservative political parties or other anti-LGBTQ+ organisations. Like Budlight’s recent media storm and how some allies thought they’d be supporting trans people by buying a can of crappy beer, while in reality they weren’t. Love capitalism me, woo!
