Pet peeves: The return (Part 4)

Hey, that means I win!

Here we have it folks; I’m living proof that being a basement dweller is no obstacle to coming in first place!

Do y ou even live ina basement?

Yes

My own basement

Which I pay a mortgage for

Because I’m a adult :sunglasses:

So my dad got admited to the hospital AGAIN… Blummin’ elderly home didn’t give him his meds
I would like a break at least until the end of the month where we know who gets costudy/power of attorney over him, provided he doesn’t kick the bucket before hand.

But man… I am so tired from this, third time this year I am about losing my old man

Or maybe it’s just a relic from the birth of the modern school system, where the goal of the school system was to rise as many people ss obedient, disciplined and homogenous as possible in order to better make use of them for future tasks, like the military.

Uniform also has some notable benefits to it; Namely that it is, as the word implies, uniform. Everyone is the same.

Speaking of Schools however, what I am worried about is in general the school system as whole. The more I look at it, the more it feels like it is disconnected from reality.

I think all learning is good fundamentally, but I don’t think that the modern school system prepares people for modern life or work at all. Same with Universities (granted, their job has always been to generate new knowledge and resesarch, everything else second). The problem is I don’t really know how to modernize it.

I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I feel like in an ever more specialized world, there is value in having some general knowledge and education, but at the same time the general education leaves people so god damn unprepared for the world ahead of them.

It seems to be hitting boys especially hard. Something about modern schools just isn’t working out for them. Maybe it’s the lack of male teachers as rolemodels, maybe it’s the school format not taking boys’ needs into account, i don’t know. All I can say that it is failing.

school uniforms exist so that if you see someone in a different uniform you start a fight with them

the north of england was still tribal when i was growing up

Weak. We managed to fight against other schools without uniforms just fine, clearly you’re just not good enough at knowing your enemy!!

Current school system is not about Learning, is why.
It’s all about regurgitating Exam answers so you get a good grade so Ofsted doesn’t give the school a bad grade.

The entire system, even Private Schools, has been unfit for purpose for decades.

Yeah.

And the issue is, I don’t think anybody even knows how to fix it.

We have been talking about getting children with my partner, but one thing that keeps escaping us is how are we going to get them educated?

Even up here in Norway where the school is relatively good, it still has the same systematic issues as every other school does.

There are alternatives like the Steiner school, but I haven’t looked at other options.
