Pet peeves: The return (Part 5)

He’ll grow into those teeth. Probably. Or turn into some kind of long eared gary busey.

I knew exactly which picture it was before clicking. That whole comic was amazing with its unintentional hilarity.

It did absolutely nothing for the already terrible PR the Windrunner sisters were going through at the time.

Although it did briefly remind people that Vareesa existed.

The Three Sisters must be preserved for all eternity as a piece of the franchise’s (unintentionally hilarious) cultural legacy.

I feel like a throat cold. I hate this.

Sea of Stars doesn’t have the most engaging story of all time, but it’s such a fun and vibrant world and setting to explore. Really enjoying it.

Combat is pretty cool too, it’s engaging in a way that makes every encounter more than just doing your highest damage move. Really good use of turn based mechanics.

Also the soundtrack is great.

— Hello, I’d like to inquire about this green dress you have on display
— It’s not for sale here, this is the men’s shop. Women’s clothes are upstairs

Then why is it on display in the first place

Trying for a vulture mount is… hoo boy. This is gonna suck :frowning:

To this date i can’t believe this is actually in-game footage from the actual game, from an actual race

Blizzard has finally changed my account region, and it no longer counts as Russian. I can now once again buy game time directly instead of buying prepaid card codes on third-party websites.

(I didn’t even do anything. I got tired fighting their customer support and left the ticket hanging for two weeks, and then suddenly received an email from a GM saying they’ve processed my request and changed my region.)

That’s the good.

The bad: it logged me out mid-play with the error message “You have been disconnected because your account information has changed”. Thankfully I was doing nothing except admiring a detailed view of Azeroth from space from the Vindicaar, and I just clicked Reconnect and got back into the game.

The ugly: I can buy gifts now, but I can only send them to friends with European accounts, not with Russian ones. For the latter, I get a “Your friend isn’t eligible to receive this” error message, and it applies to both game time and in-game goods like mounts.

This just comes off as spiteful. Anti-features like this don’t appear on their own, someone has to code them in. This means someone at Blizzard specifically cared enough to spend developer time on disabling gifts from EU accounts to Russian accounts, whereas EU prepaid game time cards still work with Russian accounts and always have (and that was how I renewed my sub since Dragonflight launch and until now).

I’m not sure on this, but I think they legally had to do it? After all, most brands in the world have pulled out of Russia or are trying to due to sanctions and if Blizzard doesn’t do similar things, they might be sanctioned as well? I suppose prepaid game time cards are harder to code / disable with these things, so they aren’t as… restrictive.

What do you mean, it clearly evokes that trendsetting Warcraft aesthetic.

FFXIV, SWTOR etc. also had to do it, so that makes me think it is part of the whole “business’ country of origin has placed heavy sanctions upon x country and so all businesses must follow [these] guidelines.”

Thing is, I don’t know of any other game company besides Blizzard that does it.

Steam disabled all payment options for Russian accounts too, because international payment systems have left Russia, but it’s still possible to top up account balance through an intermediary in Kazakhstan. Changing regions on Steam is as simple as buying a game from an IP address in the destination country (even a VPN works). You can also gift Steam games cross-region, as long as the game isn’t much cheaper in your region than in the recipient’s.

Valve is every bit as much of an American company as Blizzard is, but it’s not creating artificial obstacles in the customer’s way.

And GW2 just doesn’t care about my region at all, and lets me pay with international cards. (Neither does FFXIV — my account wasn’t impacted by the war — but Square Enix is a Japanese company.)

So no, it’s specifically Blizzard being obstructive.

Incorrect, at least in FFXIV’s case. My country of registration is listed as Russia, but I lost no functionality because of this when the war began, and can still pay with non-Russian payment methods as before. What was impacted was the ability for Russian Steam accounts to buy FFXIV and its expansions (it was one of the many games that was pulled out of the Russian Steam store), so if you bought the game on Steam before and want to buy an expansion, you’ll need to change your Steam region.

That seems even stranger given that all that you have to do get around that is changing your region as you said or making use of a moderately-decent VPN. “Yeah we’ll sanction the Fire Nation (you can easily work around this by changing your region in 3 seconds)”. But I suppose that’s good at least, lets innocent fire nation civilians semi-go-unaffected on their games.

Either way, some bizarre workarounds and enforcements of sanctions.

If you are currently residing in Blyatfrica you can’t add funds to your account apperently.

…In where?

And which account?

Russia, FF14 account.

Even if you use a VPN i might add.

all cops are assigned bastard at birth

FFXIV accounts don’t even have account balance, as far as I’m aware.

I used to pay for my subscription with Steam balance (which is still possible to top up from Russia) until I changed my region, at which point I just switched to paying via Visa card directly.

They have through the crysta system.
