Pet peeves: The return (Part 5)

The first run of Superior Spider-Man - while very controversial for the way it started off - ended up being very good and I loved the message it has that goes back to great power and the responsibility that came with it. For all of Octavius’s smarts and Spider-Man’s powers at his disposal, he was a terrible Spider-Man who got his :poop: kicked in by Norman’s Goblin Nation.

The scene with Octavius finally giving control back to Peter mid-fight when he realised he couldn’t beat the Goblin, and the look of realisation on Norman’s face when he realises that Peter is back, because he started throwing funny quips instead of being super serious like Ock was? Priceless.

The send off to Octavius in the end was beautiful and felt like a poignant end to the character and his arc of growth into a better person willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good like a true hero. It also juxtaposed the contrast of why Peter, despite (or because of?) all the hardships (and boy are there many :skull:) is the Spider-Man.

But unfortunately Superior Spider-Man was really popular so they retconned the end with multiverse stuff with the Spiderverse run and undid all of Octavius’s character growth from his time as Spider-Man so they could have Cooler Daniel back.

Comics and stupid retcons, name a more iconic duo u_u

Spider-Man especially had so many actually good stories just thrown into the wind because someone else wanted their little time in the spotlight. Ugh
Don’t tempt me to rant over stuff like One more day (or CivWar1 in general)… I’m busy with art.

“Oh no, the clown is back D:” - Norman, regularly

Moments like this, in pretty much any media?
10/10, no notes, would grin like an idiot again as, often, the lietmotif kicks in right on cue :ok_hand:

Tale as old as time…

Just had one of my villains quote the “If my motives met with your approval, would you no longer resent the outcome?” line from Zenos yae Final Fantasy 14.

It is a good day.

For all the criticisms of the Civil War MCU movie you can make (and there are plenty), at the very least it wasn’t such blatant character assassination as the comics run.

Yeah but that is really easy to do when you just don’t develop your characters or their relationships :upside_down_face:

At least we got “The Confession” out of CivWar1.

For the BG3 players;

not me critically hitting the boss enemy in the pathfinder encounter with a magically enchanted weapon and one shotting her

no encounter can be balanced for this

Reminds me of Xcom 2, after restarting (again lol) after a hiatus and with all the DLCs added on.

I didn’t realise I’d turned off the story/introductions for them (thought it was turning tutorials off only) and I wound up facing a Berserker Queen.
I got very confused when I ordered my Sniper to hit her, and before the animation had even started I got an achievement sound.

Turns out the weapon mods that have a chance to OHKO also work on the Monarchs. :smiling_imp:

Hays code and its consequences have been devastating to the progress of minority representation and in general, good TV. :pensive: :fist:

Omg that’s so me  , though I have an actual PC. When the room gets really cold I just boot up BG3. Surely the PC glowing without any LEDs in it is fine, right?

there’s something very satisfying about playing a martial class in pathfinder/d&d

i don’t have to spend ten minutes looking through all of my options to work out what spell/ability works best and how to use it in an optimal way like i was doing with my wizard

life is so much easier with my melee ranger

“i would like to move to this bandit here and attack it with my axes”

“okay it’s dead. that’s the end of my turn”

I have one thing to say regarding the Viper job announced for Dawntrail.

Double-bladed swords are some of the most impractical weapons ever invented by fantasy writers. Thanks a lot, Darth Maul, for their enduring popularity.

In the words of a friend: “Let’s give you a quarterstaff with no additional reach because you can only hold it safely in the middle and also if you ever move it wrong it cuts you in half!”

(I’m not just bitter because it was announced instead of the job I actually wanted, no siree.)

One of my characters is a ranged rogue with elven accuracy. Almost guaranteed to hit every time. Roll lots of dice. Win. Zero thoughts, just pewpew.

 aschkually the double bladed sword in the FF series predates Darth Maul, first appearing in FFV.

FFIX was when they came to real prominence, albeit a year after Phantom Menace released, as one of Zidane’s main weapons, however given that the game was a throwback to older FFs, and development time in general, it’s unlikely it all influenced by Star Wars.
