Pet peeves: The return (Part 5)

So, if Vyranoth is now an Aspect, what is she an Aspect of?

  • Alexstrasza — Life
  • Merithra — the Dream
  • Kalecgos — Magic
  • Nozdormu — Time
  • Ebyssian — Earth
  • Vyranoth — ???

I think it says she’s the aspect of the storms in the PTR.

Aspect of the Outcasts (Netherwing, storm, etc.)
Aspect of Primal Elements (don’t think about Earth too hard)
Aspect of Storms (Raszageth would’ve probably fit the title better)

Raszageth is Aspect of my heart

leo’s not well, I hope it will pass.

Also, I know i am going to regret this dialogue I just opened up but here we go.

Aspect of. . .
[Checks notes]
What the hell does Aspect of the Storm mean? That sounds like a Thunder Dragon title not an. . .ice elemental Dragon title. What even is the Storm? Why does the Storm need protecting?

Vyranoth really is one of the oddest additions to Dragonflight and her sheer existence makes the story of this expansion topple like a Jenga Tower when you start thinking about it. Why do we ice Odyn for her? Why don’t we just ask Odyn to help protect Azeroth? Why is she suddenly friends with Tyr and okay with the Titans, “Order Magic” and Titanic blessings? What was all of the context of her story meant to mean? Are these stolen eggs in the room with us right now? On top of this, the first cinematic featuring her is the scorn between her and Alexstrasza and how she has only vengeance left in her heart but then 2 months later the next time we see her she’s. . .spending “private time” with the Dragon Queen (who is a Titan Dragon).

Odyn, famous for having other peoples’ best interests in heart

You joke but he actually does. Yeah he was a bit prickly 20,000+ years ago but by the time we see him in Legion he’s wholly willing to just give us a Titan artifact after proving we aren’t some corrupt demon dudes. Then if you’re a warrior he blesses you as his One and Only Battlelord, Commander of the Titan Armies, Herald of the Valarjar, Leader of the Halls of Valor. Not to mention helping taking out the Jailer’s forces in Shadowlands.

I certainly wouldn’t describe him as unwilling to help, provided he just gave us an entire Titanforged army and the resources and Keepers of Ulduar to help aid our fight against the Burning Legion.

Odyn does what benefits Odyn at all times - that’s why he gathers the world’s strongest warriors under his banner, why he has a brood of dragons who have sworn only to him (and refuses to let them go home), why he murdered his chosen and raised her and her fellow supplicants as undead servants - and then charged us with killing her.

Why he calls himself Prime Designate and directed his servants to lie about much of the world and its history: https://www.wowhead.com/item=201722/edicts-of-the-prime-designate-volume-742

The problem, I think, comes yet again from the dissonance between what we KNOW as players/via outside media, and what is actually, substantially shown to us in game?

Not the first time, likely won’t be the last, there feels like a disconnect between the two?

This is blatantly not true. Yes, the interests overlap and align, but it absolutely would’ve been more in Odyn’s interests to use the Aegis of Aggramar himself against the Legion rather than offer it to us. He could’ve kept it, especially since people keep acting as if he’s uber-selfish about such things, but he never did. Hell, he gives away his personal Titan swords too, and gives away the Gjallarhorn on several occasions to us. Not to mention he lets the Titan artifacts remain in Dalaran (its almost like the DF Edicts books completely contradict previously written characterisation and lore).

Highly advise doing the https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/Ulduar's_Oath questline, it shows a much more sympathetic side of Odyn who cares for his Son and Azeroth as a whole. Going as far as to selflessly sacrifice many Valarjar to fight alongside the waning forces of Ulduar against the Legion assault.

In the Warrior Order Hall quests you learn that the alternative to this is that Helya takes them and breaks their bodies and souls into mindless Kvaldir slaves.

The Thorignir swearing an oath is their own decision made of their own self-determined will, they allowed Odyn to bless them. Again, the DF lore completely contradicts previously written lore.

They don’t go because they swore a self-determined oath as a brood to stand by Odyn. They even make reference to the fact that some Thunder Dragons left anyways and refer to them as “honourless cowards” (real + true)

In reading the artifact books of Odyn’s Blades you are able to uncover a very key, hidden fact to why all this takes place: Helya is twisted and corrupted by Loken and Yogg-Sarron.

Edit: He also singlehandedly blows up several Legion space ships in Legion. I’d say he did a firm 999% more than basically every other Warcraft character.

He can’t leave his realm except in his severely weakened Vykrul visage for most of Legion, and did not show any indication that he wouldn’t have given Skovald the Aegis had we not gotten there first (he says ‘you are too late’, not ‘I would never give this to the Legion’)

And a reminder that Helya was broken and left open to corruption specifically because of Odyn. He wanted forces like Bastion’s Kyrians to serve him, Helya refused, Odyn said ‘I wasn’t asking’ and forced it on her. She is motivated by spite and hatred - if a Titan Keeper had done that to me I would also probably look at their enemies more favourably.

Like, he’s obviously not evil in the sense that he fights the Legion and the Void, but he is for sure a villain. He has a very specific hierarchy in mind for saving Azeroth and it involves him being at the top of it.

Oh yeah, there is pee everywhere. I suspect we’re in for a seizure.

Idk Odyn is a douchebag in some ways but I wouldn’t call him a villain. He will be hit with the villain bat for sure come last titan.

The same way many people sympathize with Malygos (he was right), despite him doing something very dodgy to a red dragon (who in fairness murdered his consort, but it still doesn’t excuse his actions).

They really are. I haven’t played BG3 much yet, but I did -one- remotely soldier-like thing and I already had Lae’zel all over me.

In other news: Hurray, seems I escaped a third round of surgery followed by six-week recovery, so that was nice.

But my body betrayed me by making me sleep way longer than I wanted to, by the time I got up, it was dark again… darnit body.

(though if I am honest to myself I should also just change my sleeping pattern…)

Damn, I hope the Great Moofsinator will be alright :frowning:

Wiped again on Honour Mode (inquisitor got me this time, too many spiritual weapons) - guess I’m now waiting for the Minthara romance to finally get shaped up in patches to try again

As said, its kind of a wait and see for a very old cat.

Aurastor finally blessed me with the Runebear form

No longer will I need to farm that boss

Mhm, I know, you told me. I still wish him the best, but I know how it can be, he’s indeed a very old gentleman.
