Pet peeves: The return (Part 5)

For all that a certain type of person likes to loudly shout “Oh, nobody cares, why do people have to make all this fuss about it!!” they also sure do make a hell of a fuss when people don’t Conform. Curious

Tangled: The Series is hard for me to watch.

It takes place against a relatively serious (for Disney) high fantasy backdrop with thought-out mythology. For a family animated show it deals with surprisingly mature topics: parental overprotection, PTSD, class society, the responsibility of rulers…

But the characters were made stupider compared to the original, especially Eugene, so they can do stupid things and cause wacky misunderstandings and kids can Learn Lessons (and very obvious ones, at that).

Movie!Rapunzel was determined, principled, and a quick learner — the worst you could say about her is that she was naive because she spent all her life sheltered and gaslit by an abusive parent.

Series!Rapunzel is an airhead who can only function because the universe bends around her by writer fiat.

Movie!Eugene was a nice lad who turned to crime out of desperation and took the name of a swashbuckling hero to hide from his self-esteem issues.

Series!Eugene is a blabbermouth narcissist who has even less common sense than series!Rapunzel and gets into easily avoidable stupid situations.

(The reason why I’m continuing at all is that I’m watching it with a kid who liked the original Tangled and wants to see Rapunzel’s story continue.)

Also it has a guy called Varian in it.

That’s not really important, but it does mean that when you google “Varian height” you get like 5’2"-5’5" instead of however tall the WoW guy is.

Nevertheless, I choose to treat it as Varian Wrynn=manlet.

“Alex you can’t keep headcanoning all the persona 4 cast as bi just because the writers keep making unintentionally extremely gay remarks”

[points a finger at the cast like a wizard staff] BI.

(I’m having a fun time with it, P5 obviously improved a lot that I now miss, I would kill for tiny cousin Nanako)

Nier: Automata is 60% off in the steam sale so I bought it so I can play it for the plot

A plot I could stare at for hours.

Oh you best believe that’s a jail sentence

I think that if you enjoy any form of contemporary storytelling you can peg Nier Automata’s plot, twists and all, after about 20 minutes. I appreciate the game for luring in people who would generally not be confronted with such narrative with literal sex appeal, but I can’t personally call it a good game.

i sure hope so

Finished Eiyuden Chronicles. Nice enough little 15 hour game. The stampcard stuff tickled my completionist brain just the right amount.

can you though
can you really
(no)

Nier stuffYou can guess the themes of tackling existential dread and finding a reason to live and figuring out what it means to be human after the first couple of hours, but I'm not so sure about sussing out the entire plot that quickly.

also please no spoilers i haven’t started the game yet

I am simply that good.

Dungeon Meshi’s anime adaptation by Studio Trigger (Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Promare) starts on January 4th and despite Netflix’s involvement they are doing weekly episode drops instead of dropping it all at once.

Metallic Rogue by Studio Bones is also dropping January 11th.

Can’t wait. We greet the new year with PEAK.

I just wanna know what purpose those blocky sword lookin’ things have in shadowlands’ First One architecture and portal devices. Long pointy thing with handle is an archetypical proto-tool conceptually related to the metaphysical notion of “opening” as it is inserted and twisted, thus becoming the symbolic essence of “keys” to create gateways between realms and resembling an object used as a weapon is not merely coincidental but fulfilling its ultimate purpose of opening things, such as an enemy, and thus the act of battle with clashing “keys” is a struggle to pass through your foe in a transcendant act to move beyond?

How dare you speak their name and not mention Inferno Cop?

Playing as Norsca Throgg the troll king after reading up on some of his lore- He’s truly a great villain.

I rushed Constantyn and then the rest of Kislev, but Astragoth for some reason wanted war. So i gave him war by promptly killing him in his mobility scooter.

He then sued for peace, which I accepted for 10k gold reimbursement. Only to break it up again 5 turns later and stealing one of my settlements.

I was planning on invading ulthuan and getting the sword of khaine, but he changed my plans and I am now genociding the entire chaos dwarf lineage, leaving nothing but ruins behind.

My run was made 100% better after getting the voice mod for Throgg that actually makes him sound smart, like he is supposed to be.

The babbeh be raging.

My bet is he’ll struggle on the later bosses.

I had to pick the ones I thought people would know most. Inferno Cop rocks, but it is objectively more of a niche thing. If I named everything Trigger had done I’d be here a while (ditto for Bones).
