Pet peeves: The return (Part 6)

Age of Empires? Meh.

Now Age of Mythology? That’s an RTS with hairs on its chest.

Where’s my remaster?!

Not in my collection sadly :frowning:

At some point this year, no date yet

Coming Soon™.

I’ve heard that before and been burned too many times

Personal philosophy doesn’t and never will outweigh lived experience on this topic, all that I feel needs to be said :muscle:

I get that a lot.

I enjoyed AoE4, but I think AoE2 is the better game overall, and easier to grasp the basics of - every civ in AoE4 ranges from very different to the others, to extremely different to the others, and I’m still not sure about how I feel about that

I do know how strongly I enjoy French Knights in AoE4 being a thing in the feudal age, and them getting to regen their health, so I can charge them in and out of the enemy economy again and again like a true nuisance :sunglasses:

A desktop environment with prima donna “my way or the highway” developers that regularly breaks compatibility with everything else (especially KDE) and causes everyone headaches.

Its just, I get why some people may feel uncomfortable, but there is no need to dismiss a trans person who wants to use it/its pronouns.

And i say this a person who grew up in the 90s where “it” was often used as a derogatory term.

I have the same eyeroll when I get “um actually, they/them is not singular.” go read Shakespeare he was using singular they/thems throughout his plays.

But also, remember when “queer” was considered derogatory? We reclaimed THAT.

roses are red, violets are blue, singular they predates singular you

Er muh gurd! They is plural! Blerggerh

Without fail whenever TERFs spawn, so does the above.

predates “you” too.

Oh yeah – I absolutely get it too. I was piping in to agree with you + emphasise that that discomfort isn’t and shouldn’t ever be the priority.

I didn’t know that!

One of the reasons I like Sindarin is because it only has one singular third-person pronoun (te/ten). Gender isn’t grammatically marked at all, nor does the vocabulary make any assumptions about gender roles (as far as I know).

Hey did you know that the word ‘escalate’ comes from the word ‘escalator’ in the 1920s and not vice versa

messed up that innit

It was thou originally for just about everything (hence why shakespearean english is full of it) - calling someone you when that started getting use was considered very stiff and formal because it was generally used as the plural form

that’s also why royals used to use ‘we’ to refer to themselves, too

Well well, it seems a new LotR movie is in the works. Will be called “The Hunt for Gollum” , directed by Andy Serkis, who will also return in the role of Gollum. Peter Jackson signing on as producer along with partners.

I wonder if they will manage to snare Viggo Mortensen and Ian McKellen again as Aragorn and Gandalf, considering they were the ones who were hunting Gollum in the book. Maybe a small appearance from Orlando Bloom and Lee Pace as Legolas and Thranduil again. If they can pull that off, 2026 is gonna be nice.

First see if the animated Rohirrim movie about Helm Hammerhand end of the year is gonna be fun aswell though.

Man I sure miss a lot of forum stuff huh.

I can only say as a trans individual who is VERY uncomfortable with it/its that I think that set of pronouns is wonderful, even if my own history with them makes me unable to use them I still try to get over that hurdle, it’s the least I owe people even if I don’t myself understand the neopronouns.

Cis people just need to understand that even if you don’t get the neopronouns or being trans thing, you can still make an effort to use someones chosen pronouns even if it makes you feel weird or discomfort. The least you can do is that or ask them.
