Incidentally, I’m surprised we still don’t have any screenshots of Civilization 7.
I realize that Civ6 has aged so well that I don’t think there’s any real need for a seventh installment, but still.

Civilisation is honestly one of those games that I never got around to playing, and I think I should seeing as it’s up my alley… but the only thing I know those games from is the Nuclear Gandhi memes.
Among my friends I am I think the only one that loved 6’s art style. Didn’t even realise there was a 7 coming, but I guess time marches forward.
tbh Ghana is somewhat covered by Mali (in its successor state - like how I’d consider the Burgundians to cover Flanders and the Netherlands as well), I’ve seen Benin mentioned but it was mostly just fighting its neighbours, and some of the other suggestions (like Yoruba) didn’t really seem to interact much with the rest of the world? I’d say Mali represents most of West Africa in the game and could probably be split into several other civs a la India, though I don’t know enough about the region in the time period to make any meaningful suggestions on what they should all focus on in the split
Only other one that comes to mind is the Somali, maybe?
sorry babe i WILL campaign for my ‘venetians colonize greece’ campaign in AoE2 without relent (an Enrico Dandolo campaign instead is acceptable too)
i have my moments
It does not hurt you as a cis person to respect somebody’s pronouns (as somebody who knows a few it/its people, thank you)
I will defend these people’s right to use whatever neo pronoun they (and that is a multiple they there) like and it is not your call or right as a cis person to go “um actually”
This does not mean however you can label any trans person as “it” (since i also grew up in the “it and spit” time, the 90s were wild)
Just respect other people for crying out loud, it ain’t difficult.

Also i am back from my forum vacay, I learned nothing and will do it again
EDIT: I spelt label wrong, I blame the mouth abscess.
Imperial age Romans… If you know you know.
Turns out, a cartoony style ends up being evergreen, see also: World of Warcraft.
I think Civ6 could also just have more civs instead of making a Civilization 7. My peeve with the games is that you always just end up having… the same civs at the start. If you’re a lesser known/smaller country, the chances of you seeing yourself be represented is so small at the start and you might only get your history told through later DLCs.
Like, sorry not sorry but I’m not looking forward to seeing the same big names again. Woo, here’s Germany and Russia again!
Personally I don’t mind it as much. After all, Africa is a large continent, so if you fight your neighbours and don’t interact with the rest of the world, it’s still fine. Many European civs in the game didn’t either.
The only problem those civs face is that you need to have existing civs to interact with, and with very few African civs in the game, that becomes an obstacle that only an African-focused DLC can fix. Pretty sure the American civs had similar problems (esp Incan campaign? I don’t play campaigns, not sure).
But hey, you already named several civs to fit into an African DLC (you could technically argue that Africa is large enough you could even do a more geographic direction-focused DLC like West/North/East/South Africa).
Never got the Romans DLC, far too overpriced for a dead gamemode and one civ I might not enjoy playing as much. I probably wasted my money on the Caucasus DLC as well, considering I haven’t been playing AoE2 as much recently - thanks WoW - and the civs being somewhat unpleasant for me.
I prefer 5’s art style, but I found 6’s to be an acquired taste.
I don’t know, I can’t think of any where the historical dynamic is ‘only interacted with their one neighbour, really’!
Definitely, they’ve always felt like the odd ones out to me, personally.
Love Georgians, personally, the ox cart mechanic takes some getting used to though
Romas I don’t like playing, had fun with some of the campaigns but that’s it
Remind me, have we added each other on Discord? There are a couple of things I want to say on this matter that I don’t want to flood the forum with.
(I’m linneris)
yes, look for Binx with the stupid moron sitting in the sink.
Yeah, so when an African DLC brings in 3-4 new civs, there’ll be more than one neighbour to fight!
(I’m pretty sure the more popular suggestions interacted with the world plenty anyway?)
It’s not even so much (just) the ox cart mechanic, but the civ design as a whole. They feel a little too convoluted, probably a growing problem in the civ designs where devs feel the need to add in more mechanics so the civ would feel fresh and modern. Same happened with the Indian civs kinda-sorta.
But yeah, I just don’t really find the civs all that fun to play. Probably doesn’t help I mostly prefer to play Black Forest teamgames.
I immediately smugly assert my understanding for the interacting nations/peoples did with those around them not being of particular importance
tbh like I mentioned before I don’t know enough about African or Asian history of the time especially to say much more; it’s not of much interest to me in general vs Europe and the ‘Middle East’
Which is also what I said earlier - I find AoE2 and Civilization games to have been great entry points for the general masses being introduced to cultures they usually wouldn’t have learnt about in school. Seeing it in game form can grow the interest in some people later on!
That’s definitely true! I’m certainly not opposed to it (and would undoubtedly get a DLC like that), but I can only advocate for the inclusion of stuff I know more about because I can back them up with vague notions and points (split Italians, add more Germans)
I just want to say;
A.I. spamming Karambit warriors is UTTER
Brought to you by the 2+ hour game me and my friend had last night, because we couldn’t wall off the second entry into the enemy territory fast enough, and the bugger had a literaly constant tide of troops pouring through.
However.
Donjon + Serjeant spam go brrrrrrrtttt.
William of Normandy landing in Hastings like:
I thought it was a seal for so long.
Relatedly;
Is it odd that I still prefer AoE2 to AoE4?
Like, I gave it a try and all, just… it does not click, for me. Is that nostalgia having me in its iron grip, or?
playing wood nothing with 6-8 man is nice.
