“Why does it look cartoony?!”
“Because the writers love the MCU and want to-”
I did not read further, because at that point my brain was trickling out of my ears in liquid form, reduced by the utter Smoothness it had been forced to witness. Instead, it was being replaced by a potent hybrid of despair - at the Utter State of people and ‘Gamers™’ these days - and fury.
Nothing new under the sun; only the same, over and over. Consume, consume, consume the Content, bros!
(Good grief. I wish there was an add-on to turn off all comment sections everywhere, ever…)
Edit: Also, WHY is it that anything that’s 2D animated is ‘cartoons’, yet as soon as something isn’t ‘caked in the ten-thousand layers of grim of a medieval pig pen’ it’s also ‘cartoony’?
People need to fight against the abject brainrot, I swear to deity…
I just don’t get why they decided to go from 1 to 2 in stylisation, then abandoned the stylisation for 3 only for 4 to have a DIFFERENT kind of stylisation.
Like… the style of 2 was fine? Boost the saturation a little maybe? Why are we reinventing this every game?
Spoken like people who do not understand what the MCU is… or how any of this works.
But media literacy is down to the point where we’re looking at another satanic panic style thing in the US soooo yeah
No more media consumption
only media interaction now thanks
Edit: Addition to your edit: Remember, if something isn’t 100% filled with cynicism and “humans are so bad and evil” it’s not realistic
The only realistic superhero stuff is the Boys and so on (again, lack of media literacy)
Bellara the Veiljumper introduction definitely struck me as that sort of comic/comedic bent.

It’s just a trailer. Hopefully the gameplay is good, and perhaps the advertising is letting it down, but I will say that this did not excite me as much as I had hoped.
Inquisition had this as a trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJqxfkgSUog
which had a similar vibe, to me, to the DAVe trailer (mostly due to music choice).
Upon rewatch: I hope the mage killer and the necromancer have a terrible relationship because I would like to put those two into the party if I play
because funny
What do graphics and the WRITERS have to do with anything? They’re entirely different departments?!
This is like when window-lickers get angry at the social media teams for not patching games harder
The reason I preferred DA:O’s atmosphere is not because of “evil humans, everything hopeless, muh realism”.
But I preferred it because the Darkspawn and the skeletons, and the demons there, they actually looked like you -SHOULD- fear for your life when you see them.
The skeletons in this trailer, similar to the darkspawn, they just… feel alot toned down from what they used to be ( 2 did this too but to a far lesser degree, 3 I don’t recall too well).
Maybe it also has to do with the fact I was younger then, ( 15 years or so), but often when you fought a foe in Origins, they atleast -looked- like they meant business ( gameplay besides ofc), atleast to me.
My reaction to DOOM: Eternal after 2016; “Why do all the demons look worse, and everything is neon and ‘gamey’…? This is worse.”
At least the new one looks a bit more like 2016. But I miss Doom Guy being ‘some random guy who is literally Too Angry To Die’, not a wannabe Kratos ._.
The harronir take on drudism (root dancing I guess?) is certainly something.
Still not sure what the deal is with that race, but I have fun with the mental image of a Night Elf druid coming across flourescent semi-trolls doing underground nature voodoo.
A big part of the ever changing style is that studio artists often don’t get retained between development cycles.
And that the big money at the top doesn’t actually understand anything about the topic (neither art nor gaming) but has all the decision making hoarded. So if they see something like Arcane get good reviews and being popular they’ll go and demand the media that gets their money to be “just like Arcane”
Without actually understanding Arcane or the media they give their money to in hopes of more money.
Xal’atath really said: “Previously on World of Warcraft:”
