me, a genius: I shall spend bullion on getting Belor’relos so I don’t have to risk RNG to get it
World of Warcraft: what if it dropped in both your raid and the following vault, making you look like a moron
what if we did that

thats exactly it for me. the usual fantasy trope is that elves and dwarves are the ancient fading race and humans are the rising star of potential. its reversed in tyria. humans are aliens. some of their greatest kingdoms like ascalon and orr are in ruins. kryta elona and cantha were cut off from each other for decades. meanwhile the elves, the sylvari, are so young the oldest of them would be what…35-40? and are a race full of potential. i love it.
i wont lie and say i dont like the dragons. they fascinated me when they were more of an enigma and when they were essentially mass effect reapers. but balthazar, and frankly joko, were absolute show stealing villains. to top it off balthazar did what no dragon could. he killed the PC
Yeah this is a problem. Most of DAI’s endgame zones are all optional, but Hissing Wastes is the only one that doesn’t have a unique stuff or important questline at all. It’s just filler space.
Emprise du Lion, Emerald Graves & Exalted Plains all atleast have follower quests, unique fights and even some fun quests and stories.
Art imitates life.
(gottem)
Conversely, probably my favourite zone in DA:I other than the super short+linear swamp. Neat quests, a trio of dragon fights, and the striking red lyrium against the white snow was beautiful. Unlike Hissing Wastes it was also acceptable to navigate.
its a snow zone thats all it took for it to be my favourite
It is a very good zone! It’s also the first time we meet a male presenting desire demon. And one who isn’t all about sex either but instead other desires(Greed in this case).
Was a very interesting quest.
apparently the villain is played by jinkx monsoon and for that alone i would consider watching the episode
i’ve never seen dr who before, surely i will understand everything that’s going on through brief peripheral knowledge of the universe right?
I remember when GW2 trailer came out (or for its expansion or whatever) and I found the abilities / visuals really cool. Alas… WoW’s addiction is a little too strong that I’d never want to play any other MMO ever again, perhaps not even WoW itself. The Sylvari did however make a very strong case for me to think about trying the game out.
Isn’t Belor’elos nerfed anyway in S4? Or is it still S-tier for like, some specs, as from what I’ve seen it’s not in the BiS lists for any spec I play. (Oh, apparently it is for Augmentation. But in this case - Bullions are still better as it’ll be a guaranteed Myth track item! And maybe your Vault now has other upgrade options for you instead.)
even people who watch it don’t understand what’s going on
The new season/era is designed to be beginner friendly. Disney essentially did a soft reboot so people wouldn’t need to catch up on like 50 years of tv history to watch it.
Everything previous is still canon, but it’s written and done to be a fresh slate.
honestly nera your someone i think would enjoy it and not just because the world, and sylvari especially, are very openly LGBTQ+. their lore is very interesting, born adult with prior generations feeding more info to each new one from their life experiences, three distinct factions of them. and very aesthetically appealing. (druid also a specialisation)
I’d say that the Devil’s Chord does rely on knowledge of the 60th anniversary specials though, since that’s the whole lead up to the villain.
I understand why people don’t love the episode, because they were hoping for an episode about the Beatles but didn’t get one. But personally I don’t like the Beatles so that’s totally fine with me and I thought the villain was very interesting and what this whole new era is playing with.
The only real issue I have with GW2 is that the original 1-50 story is…very rough. The whole experience is a bit.
And the way they did/do living world stories needing to be bought to unlocked is a bit rough for new players. But otherwise it is a fun game. The gameplay itself is really interesting and it has some fun lore. The expansions are great.
Yeah, clarifying with that, I considered the specials to be sort of part of the thing as it preludes the season.
The boring version of the Universe in that episode just seemed like normal England/the Beatles as usual.
you may continue
Sylvari aren’t elves! But you’re not wrong.
GW2 does, as you noted, do an interesting inversion here, where humans are the ancient fading race with glorious architecture, whose heyday was the past and who have left lots of ruins around the world (a role usually reserved to elves or their counterpart), but the Obligatory Forest-Dwelling Nature Race is the youngest race that has only been around for a few decades. They’re also not elves, but plant people with a culture inspired by Celtic mythology and Arthurian legends. It feels fresh and exciting.
In fact, I’m glad that GW2 avoids all the classic D&D races, as well as the D&D assumption that humans are the default and average, and instead does its own thing.
Anything Everything is an elf if you try hard enough.
it did not : (
(Belor’relos is a solid 15-20% of my damage, it’s so good)
It is so uninspired in fantasy settings where they think up all these varying creative designs and views of other fantasy species only to then go “Humans are the dominant species. They are an exact replica of a romanticized view of the middle ages. They are also good at everything.”
Bonus points if humans are also the only species that is allowed to have different groups, nations and ideals. Every other fantasy species all share a few personality traits across their entire population and have no unique groups within their communities.
I will argue that the Asura are the elves of GW2. In this essay, I will-
yeah no disagreement. it takes til id say living world season 2 before the writers kinda started to find themselves. but im not going to say no other mmo had an easy or well written start. none of them genuinely did. gw2 for me at least made up for it with a gorgeous world full of good world building.
the sole silver-lining, if there is one anyway, is once you buy it thats it. no sub means your never cut off from doing it. and honestly that itself is a blessing.
oh i know. better wording would be “elf like” or “fae-like” as they did originally have a far more elven appearance before their finished look currently. which imo is much better. i LOVE the variance in their planty appearances.
if youve played end of dragons few places really drove that home imo like echovald did, seeing what was left of the great Kurzick houses from GW: factions. it was haunting tbh.
this is why i vibe with them. i love the draw from celtic and artuhrian myth. even the amount of names of sylvari that are directly irish, welsh or scottish is wonderful to see. (Caithes ex-Gf for example has the same name as my mom’s maiden name which means “Little Wolf.” not exactly unfitting for faolain.)
further on this: the fact that norn and humans despite looking so similar have zero relation to one another. their more closely related (even if its not confirmed) to a race of polar bear people than to humans and that is a delightful thing to see.
…alright i’ll give you that one
Well, then it had TWO gem slots that you can’t get otherwise unless through luck! I’m at least happy they changed this for S4, a full Vault with no upgrades/very minor upgrades resulting in just one gem slot was such an awful feeling. Especially when these gem slots on gear that’s not Myth track / maybe not the BiS gear for that slot means your entire Vault becomes irrelevant when the gear gets replaced.
Gonna make a fantasy setting / game with no humans nor warriors so the players who do the ‘picks human male warrior’ meme get psychic damage.
