just found out a long-time and i thought good friend was publicly talking about how everyone like me deserves significant/great amounts of violence including leading to death on their public social media account that I stumbled across by accident the other day, now I get to make the fun decision to either block 'em everywhere and go cold turkey (the right thing to do) or to confront them with it (the funny thing to do), what a world
That’s not for you to judge, frankly.
Saying something like that warranted calling out.
Hope things do get better for you and family soon, sincerely, regardless of anything else that did need to be said adjacent.
And people say stupid things in hard times, especially when distressed/worked up. It does happen. It can be the reason for things. He apologized when realizing the error. Wtf more is there to it.
Time to play the game of
“Can this individual be brought back to the moderate sanity of the real world after being caught up in the culture brainrot of internet extremism.”
The odds are always low for success, but its always hilarious to try.
Edit: Alternatively if the calls for extreme violence are targetted or appear genuine then there’s always the Police to hand it over too for investigations.
They’re very wholesome chungus about it to my face, so it’s mostly a matter of how funny it will get to make evident I know about their online poasting vs it probably being best to not bother - I’m very confident the chances of any actual threats are precisely zero, so it’s really more of a personal matter more than anything else.
It’s one of those situations where I’m not even really insulted or sad, just shocked by how strange a situation it is to run into!
Always go with funny
There’s always the chance being confronted IRL by someone they consider a good friend who’s part of [Demographic] they’re spewing bile about online will make them double-think the things they’ve been posting online under the protection of anonymity. People are usually a lot more sensible in a real-life environment, usually easier to talk down from extremities as well.
Or double down
I think social media has broken a lot of brains in this regard, because nowadays you can get your own sort of hyper reality by consuming tailor made content on the platform of your choice
it really is a case of do i do the thing that’s right (smart) or the thing that’s right (funny)
This is a good point as well though! I’ll likely end up running into them later this week anyways so
it loops back to funny
The effects cannot be understated and for the sake of future generations we genuinely need a legislator that isn’t full of the elderly but instead younger people eager to see democracy in action so that we can properly tackle the situation before it spirals any further. Extremism is far too common and far too easily consumed on the Internet on generic social media apps now.
Doing a li’l backup I find I have so many dang memes it demands several folders for sorting.
Truly I am internet poisoned.
And no, you may not see them. Forum censorship is harsh and I’m even in danger just making simpsons references…
All you’re doing is making us want to see them memes even more.
