Well when you can name one cool rugged Dracthyr side NPC, just one for every 20 giggle me timber ones, we’ll get back to this. And I really hope you find one.
Yes, and I think you’re wrong.
Who are these others and when did I complain about them being included?
I never said that but I nonetheless hope nothing good happens in his life again.
Never once said this, in fact said the opposite.
Well, that’s what I happen to think.
They’re not.
I don’t think they would like me very much, nor I them.
Also I think the Dracthyr are really lame. Like, a lot. All of these NPCs that you call inclusive are to me equivalent to black face, because that’s how I feel when I look at them. Not all of them, but many. Like they’re making a mockery of what I am and what I believe in for the purpose of some corporate scheme to make themselves look good. This one-dimensional caricature of a whole group of very different people. That’s how they present us to the world, funny-coloured hair and ALL THAT DAMNED GIGGLING. It’s like those bad 90s and early 2000s depictions of LGBTQ+ people in sitcoms except it’s 2024. I’ll repeat, I do not like tokenism.
I close my eyes, tell us why must we suffer
Release your hands, for your will drags us under
My legs grow tired, tell us where must we wander
How can we carry on if redemption’s beyond us?
At least those went out and did stuff. They liked them some killin, you know what I mean? Most of these Second Life RPers just sit about all day and make up stories about their characters to put in the overcrowded ABOUT section of their TRP, none of which ever happened IC.
I was sure there was Dracthyr with them as well. If not then my bad on that.
I can have a look tomorrow when I next play and try to remind myself.
In a general term is what I meant to clarify. As there’s some focus in queer representation as a whole in DF at a couple of points.
Very much so.
Really weird and frankly disturbing reaction to have towards not liking someone’s writing in a video game. Seems very unwarranted.
I do not wish to discredit how you view it, but I do not believe the intention here is to make mockery.
To give Blizzard some criticism in how they’ve handled some part of their diversity and portrayals of it, I do not see it as simply cold corporate mockery or tokenism, but a very american view on it, and sometimes a bit blunt. But its worth remembering here again that for many queer americans, they are very vocal about their identities primarily because of how conservative and hostile so much of their own country is towards them.
One thing I can point to as an example is that most of DF’s diversity is focused on WlW couples. Which is completely fine on its own and something I appreciate in many cases. But it is something that can, especially in media, be the"safest" choice over for example NB characters or a MlM couple. Primarily because even to the more intolerant fans and userbase, lesbian couples can be seen as somewhat acceptable because its “hot”.
I don’t think I got more to say at the moment though on the topic and I should get back to sleep.
It’s too damn warm Swedish summers are scorching sometimes.
like how in game of thrones they’ll show the milkers but not the rods if you know what I mean. Yeah, that’s true, but it might just be a reflection of the writers. Could be women writing about wlw because these are all self insert characters
Man if I told you what I would do to him if I had superpowers you’d be really disturbed
Because Sapphic love has always been marketable and sellable. It’s unfortunately a symptom of insecure heteronormativity mixed with toxic masculinity (aka incels) having too much control over the entertainment industry.
And even then in the context of WoW they’ll never give you it with characters from mainline “popular” races (Humans, Elves of different flavours, Orcs etc) because it could possibly cut into profit margins in hellscape countries that Blizzardsoft wants money from.
the rebellion story is about dragonkin being upset that dragon family and associates return to the isles after many many years (while the dragonkin stayed and toiled away) and are just expected to serve them again as if nothing happened.
you seem to think that dracthyr and dragonkin are the same (the burly types you mention in waking shores for example are also dragonkin and not related to dracthyr at all) for some reason and at the same time you try to argue in their favour and also that df’s story generally is not pretty bland and boring.
the race’s concept is interesting i will agree to that but it was handled very poorly and the roleplay community seems to follow suit as i struggle to find any interesting characters in the sea of teehee gigglers (supposedly ex super soldiers) who talk about cakes and growth pot addict goofy ahhh im a 20 ft tall lizard look at me morty
the model looks stupid and they should resemble the dragonkin in appearance more but i have a funny feeling we’re in agreement about that
You think many dracthyr are shallow characters who exist only to loosen up their male love interests?
Do they, though? In my opinion, they just talk like… people. Everyone here knows I rant about real-life Tumblr lingo to no end, and I see none of that in the dracthyr.
(Using the word “identity” in the modern context does make me raise an eyebrow, though. It’s too on the nose and not something I imagine to be present in a world like Azeroth.)
Sigh here we go again. I have explained my stance in one of the replies to Vixi above.
I will go digging and let you know.
Also! How can it be that the Tuskarr are the only group unaffected by this weird trend in Dragonflight writing? Must be because they’re ugly and subhuman and therefor unfit for the writers to project themselves into.
I agree. They were intended to be a disguise - a part of the dragon’s identity would be projected, but a true dragon’s form remains that of well, a dragon. In the old lore, visages weren’t as much of a big deal.
Dragons could easily have more than one visage, changing them at will to suit the occasion, so it came off as strange when all of a sudden, a visage form would even have a sort of ritual of passage, with several dragons like Alexstrasza present. For example, we see Korialstrasz change visage three times: Borel, Krasus and an elder orc, depending on the situation.
While I don’t dislike it, I believe a lot of the visage stuff watered down the concept of dragons being dragons.
It always helped me to repeat that even just lying down somewhere comfy with my eyes closed is a form of rest, even if I’m not sleeping. Sometimes you can get stuck in a feedback loop of being anxious or annoyed about not falling asleep and breaking that by being chill about being awake but comfortable can sometimes help
I agree too. Dragons should be dragons first and foremost. Old lore had no concept of a fixed “visage form”, they were just disguises to let them better blend in among mortals. Part “when in Rome…” and part to avoid scaring them.
Though even then there was that bit about Alexstrasza and Korialstrasz preferring to consummate their relationship in their elf forms because they had pleasantly soft skin or something.
