Pet peeves: The return (Part 7)

Re-recruiting one or two people for one of my D&D games and I hate every single application. Its either powerplay nerds doing dumb class dips (using AI ‘art’ to boot, gross) or goofy concepts for what is very clearly a serious-tone campaign.

ngl this would be reason enough for me to cut the losses.

they are weak, it is easy to flavour busted class combos

Ancestral Guardian Barbarian X/Echo Knight Fighter 3+ is a monster of area denial and tanking and the idea of ‘spiritual warrior projecting a ghost of their ancestor’ is a cinch

[my favourite one is still centaur barbarian with Mobile and Horseshoes of Speed, which can run up, smack you 3 times at advantage, and then run 60ft away]

Puked on the rug, huh?

Is it the Fey types, I bet its the Fey types.

I keep on bringing it up but only because it’s such a defining moment - at one point in my WFRP one of the players invested around 10 sessions worth of XP entirely in his Consume Alcohol skill because really, being kind of bad at a lot of stuff is fun, too, and that event cannot ever leave my mind

Not this time. Warforged chef with a name basically akin to “8URN F14M3”

Like hahah cool man, but we’re knee deep in the ashes of a genocide and growing concerns about another continent spanning war breaking out, but your funny l33t speak name is cool too. Not tonally a problem at all.

Warforged don’t have have l33t sp34k names! That’s not a thing! They generally either had production numbers or ‘nicknames’ based off of personality or job role. Pretty similar to the Star Wars clones in that respect.

No, she’s very polite and just meowed her complaints at me while I pet her.

Actually I think I miss when the average DnD Player just played a Human Male Fighter. 270~ playable races is simply a mistake; its too much!

Had insomnia again after two weeks of pleasant sleep.

Then I had a lucid dream and that fact scared me enough that I forced myself awake.

Now I feel groggy. Grr.

But it isn’t Cher.

No, no, keep up with the dogwhistle meta. Even a typical mmo-champion poster now has enough common sense to realize “woke” is discredited, so it’s “DEI” now.

Warforged are, unironically, a very cool race. They have no history beyond a century ago, and no future because all the Creation Forges were ordered shut down and dismantled. They were created solely as weapons of war and are now ‘real people’. Their personhood was granted not because of any actual belief in them by all of the powers that be, but because it was the most expedient way to get the end-of-war treaty signed.

They’re subject to racism both because they’re so ‘inhuman’ and because they’re such a keen visual reminder of the Last War. Every single one is a former soldier, with all of the baggage that brings with it. They’re lost in society twice over. No legacy to hold onto as a people, scattered as they are, and no aid in integrating into ‘civilian’ life for the first time in their life.

There’s a lot of neat stuff to interrogate with Warforged that is difficult to get from humans/elves/etc. on a wider scale.

So it bugs me when they get reduced to hahah funny robot. It’d be like Forsaken all getting boiled down to hahah funny zombie.

Warforged are great for Eberron tbh, but I think this does nail my general sentiment down pretty well - pick a race that suits the setting and specific corner of the setting, please! Please!!!

When you put it that way, dracthyr are cool!

It is immensely disappointing that the dracthyr had so little in Dragonflight.

I’m not saying that they should have dumpstered Toddy Whiskers and the entire Dragonscale Expedition in favour of the Dracthyr but uhhhhh, no, yeah, I am saying that actually!

Did Queen of the Dragons Alexstrasza speak to a single dracthyr during the expac? Serious question honestly.

Not that I can recall. Were their memories ever restored entirely btw? I know their full power was returned with the introduction of the Augvoker spec, but did that also restore their collective memories of the ancient times?
