Pet peeves: The return (Part 9)

This is the kicker, and has sunk my battleship before.

I am of the opinion that DST should be deleted from society. Whatever purpose it once served it no longer does.

I like DST on the day it gives me more sleeping time and dislike DST on the day it gives me less.

If you count being shot at and getting hit as a form of eating yes.

… he just has more hp than normal and underweight Arthur.

I’m in a discord server that bothers to do the automatically adjust to local time thing… random person working in statistics better at announcements than small indie gaming studio. smh

that’s the best part: it didn’t ever really work for its intended purpose, we’ve known this for decades, but no one can get their butt into gear to change things

So am I the only one who thinks Gale just looks like a standardly muscular dude anyways? The smoothing of his textures didn’t really do much, he still looks pretty identical to how he did. He’s still broad and has a whole six-pack going on despite doing nothing that would imply maintaining it.

By all means, have a look

It’s not like he was as bulky as Halsin before being changed so I don’t think it’s unreasonable for more of a bone to be thrown to those of us who like muscular mages…or muscular men in general.

Back when I first started playing this game it was precisely because I saw some cool concept art of a muscular male Blood Elf casting cool spells. It was a refreshing change from the usual trope of ‘old, frail wizard’.

It’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but Halsin was given some unpleasant baggage that proved off-putting so it would have been nice for my second choice to not be changed.

Astarion’s too theatrical for my liking and Wyll ended up being strangely boring and overly sanitised compared to his early access counterpart.

All in all, I ended up going for Shadowheart which is an unfortunate trend in these supposedly ‘inclusive’ games. I did the same in the Dragon Age games due to Alistair, Cullen and Sebastian not being a romance option for male characters. Which I don’t think is necessarily an issue in itself but…it’d be nice if more RPG’s remembered that many gay and bisexual men are actually attracted to muscular, conventionally attractive men.

Off the top of my head, the second most common criticism of Gale (behind him deciding no doesn’t necessarily mean no) is that he’s too muscular/shredded and honestly I get it. I haven’t played BG3 in quite some time, so I guess they’ve reduced the abs?

To add to that: as a programmer, DST is pain, and used to be even more so until we got good libraries to mostly abstract away the complexity.

DST is one of the main reasons why date/time handling in software is so complicated and full of special cases, and why computers mostly just internally store everything as “milliseconds* since 1 January 1970, 00:00 UTC” and convert to human-readable text only on the user’s computer when drawing the GUI. One of the main reasons why human timekeeping is so weird and why date/time libraries confuse novice developers.

Even if it wasn’t a massive inconvenience twice a year, that alone would have been reason enough for me to want to abolish DST.

(And don’t get me started on the absolute evil that is leap seconds.)

* Or was it seconds? Or nanoseconds? Crap.

Yeah, I just never bothered to colouring it because the Beirut’s didn’t seem worth going for. Like rdr2 isn’t hard enough to need more health.

*benefits. Arthur isn’t is Lebanon

On my playthrough he sure talked like a standardly muscular dude.

“Hey, do you know I had sex with a god once? And they loved it. Wanna bang?”

Look, it’s very important that the white and straight-assumed dude is also jacked and I won’t do any examination about what’s triggering that thought

That’s something that DA has over BG3, you have to explicitly select romance dialogue for it to happen, whereas with BG characters will proposition you despite no previous build up.

Gale should be pastier and have a little belly from all of the snacking he probably does while he’s reading in his armchair.

His complexion should also be a bit awful and his hair a little bit greasy because he was so engrossed in that one tome he forgot to take a shower three days in a row.

He should be me.

I want to say that Gale is too vain for that, but your version is funnier so I believe it now

He let himself go after the breakup. It happens to all of us.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a little bit because of feedback from DA2 where some players (primarily men) got very uncomfortable with how forward Anders was in coming onto you.

Fat Arthur is purely for fashion :relieved:

If you put him into some “empowering” poses to please some more of the possible viewer spectrum there will be hurt feelings though! do not explore that too closely either…

Gale legitimately went from my least favourite companion to favourite through the course of the game.
