Phobias & WoW

Hello. I have several phobias that makes the game hard to play. There is a cvar/client command variable that makes players invisible or used to be a while back, now i don’t know, but mounts are still visible.
Below is some things that make the game harder to play for me and others.

Agoraphobia - fear of open places, squares & parks etc.
Scopophobia - an excessive fear of being watched
Gelotophobia - fear of being ridiculed & laughed at.
Gymnophobia - fear of nudity & feeling naked even with clothes on.
& general social anxiety.

Also got some thalassophobia but can’t very well ask for deep water to be removed.

It would be really neat if it was possible to grind it out a lot more solo.

ps. i’d prefer if there were no personal attacks or rude replies in the thread.

Me kinda. I’m only dealing with needle phobia, claustrophobia, social anxiety and general anxiety  welcome to the club.

I don’t think an MMO is really the best place for you then… but hey even I get a bit of crowd anxiety when it’s really busy. Weird how it works in game too.

This will happen anywhere in WoW due to how the camera works. It cannot be helped.

This is a central theme of the game, and it cannot be helped. If anything, it may help you face it.

This is frankly just normal. I don’t even know why it has a name like that.

Indeed not.

You may perceive me as rude, but I think that what you ask for is unreasonable, if not impossible. World of Warcraft is fundamentally a dark game, even with all the hugging going around these days.

If your fears are this all-consuming, and you cannot face them, World of Warcraft is not the game for you. It is a game of war, suffering, and corruption more so than anything else.

Than why would you open this thread?

Srsly, you are not suited for the game. What did you even expect coming here?

This is an MMORPG where all this stuff is being present. Go and play a Singleplayer-game… or even better tetris, which is better suited for your situation.

As many have mentioned before already. If you suffer from such phobias then there is a limit on how much others can adapt to you…and sometimes its simply not possible. Like applying for a flight school with aerophobia(fear of flying) and expecting the school to somehow adapt to your needs? :airplane:

So either you conquer the said phobia or…accept that you wont become a pilot.

My man, im sorry you’re suffering through all of That. As someone who sees a therapist for my own issues, I know these things can be very difficult.

However, it may prove best for your mental health to play games that aren’t mmo’s. There’s a lot of people with social anxiety in WoW and retail has created a sort of single player mode variant that accommodates that. But all your phobias on top of that tell me that you’d be much more comfortable immersing yourself in some rich single player game rather than trying to make WoW work for you.

On a side note, WoW as a single player game offers very little, in my humble opinion. It is and always was a multiplayer game and the best experience is with other people. I don’t see why people who dislike interacting with others keep trying to play it when there’s much, much better single player alternatives.

Cheers

Funny enough, I got a phobia to heights and whenever my character (non dracthyr/DH) falls down a cliff I get a little tensed  and let out a swear word as a reaction to my stupid mistake.

Look, I don’t want to sound rude or anything but come on, this is a game. I too have thalassophobia and I found out the hard way, nearly drowned, swallowed half the sea in the process, in fact now when I see a body of water that is large enough to swallow me up and can’t see the bottom, I make sure I’m as far from it as possible, but I played the crap out of games like Subnautica and Atlas so it can’t be that bad?

WTF go visit doctor xD This is game…

Anxiety doesn’t work like that else nobody would have it.

There has been a topic about this not that long ago already . And well i have to say the same thing.

You can’t expect every single game to cater to every phobia or fear. Because if we would have to put options or remove things for phobias then very little.

I know phobias are a serious issue for people but some phobias are so specific or silly in nature. I remember how big blizzard made the announcement of there finally being ducks introduced to wow?

Well theres the Anatidaephobia. The fear of a duck watching you somewhere. Should the ducks now be removed perhaps? Wich sounds comedic to us, but there might be players out there terrified of ducks

If you have phobias then the best thing you can do is research what you can play instead of expecting companies to tailor games specially for you.

i think thats just ptsd instead of a phobia

I can’t play games like that, or even look at certain pictures with deep, dark water. Crossing the deep, dark places in Vashj’ir (and that damn whale, oh gawds) was challenging lol.

Sounds like a very scary experience, happy you got out ok!

Please do not make your problems other people’s problems.

If you have that many phobias you should be working on them, not trying to get the world to bend to you.

I symathise with people that have phobias that may make certain activities tough, but if you have a long list of them, maybe consider that an open world MMO where you interact with others isn’t the place for someone with a fear of open spaces etc.

But its a game you watch on a screen, it should trigger your phobias right?

I have a phobia for heights, if i climb some tower or high building my legs become weak and it feels like the entire building is moving.

But ingame this forms no issue at all. Isnt it just a matter of being able to seperate reality and a game?
