WoW is filled with unused dead maps, useless npcs, quests with useless rewards and campaign bits all over the place.
how can they even fix this ? even orgrimmar and stormwind basically have no usage anymore. all vendors selling items that you don’t use even when leveling.
we literally have only one map useful at any given time.
siren isle is just the newest addition.
i mean i’m not saying every map should be useful but shouldn’t there be something to do in old maps ? when I play classic i am constantly visiting multiple cities/maps but in retail it’s just dornogal/undermine atm would be nice to have OPTIONS.
I hope they keep this in mind with Silvermoon rework because otherwise it’s gonna be a constant loop of reworking maps one by one.
Who hurt you?
no one. i’m just bored of using 5 gb of 120gb i downloaded
infact i was thinking about this the other day,
i think they can make a big event or a global or incident that effect the old maps too.
so then they can upgrade the quest and items of the old maps and mix it with the new content to bring it back to life again.
i can go to the detail but it will be 10 pages of words so this is enough
As a collector/completionist, I spend at least 5 times more hours in legacy content than in current-expansion.
They said that they will not do “cataclysm mistake” again. Every revamped zone will be Zidormi phased.
and that time could be spent in a way more fun then in its current way.
yes. whoever thought of remixes had a great idea, even something like that but permenant and in actual game could work.
because they their idea is good but when they want to do it in the game the do it bad.
there is so much potential that they are killing it everytime
Why is your definition of “fun” more valid than mine?
i didn’t say that it is ?
i’m just saying that the thing you do(which is something almost all wow players do at some point) can be done in a way more engaging way for everyone
i swear this Trading post shop can be way way way bigger than this,
the amont of breathing content that can create with this is so much that i just cant explain it here.
but for example the item named Living Steel
this one old item can be the root of hours and hours of content in 2025 but sadly they dont want to or dont have time to bring back the old content and mix it with the new ones
Don’t think it helps that every expansion they seem to have to add a new isle or area, maybe its an engine thing or whatever that they cant add new on top of old and keep both or its too difficult to make stories using existing areas.
The mistake they made was forcing everything into Stormwind and Orgrimmar, then giving out those essential vendors from those cities, to Mount NPC’s -like AH, Transmog…hell, not even giving us a reason to go back to the cities and upgrade professions…because every expansion hub has the latest profession updates.
I mean, why didn’t Silvermoon and Darnassus have a barbers and transmog…I mean, come on…
In Classic, the whole map is used, because people are flying all over the place. Theramore, Darnassus, Ratchet, Gadgetzen, Southshore, Tarren Mill, Kargath…
yess
exactly. even wotlk dalaran has many people active doing stuff in Cata classic rn.
my point exactly. if they’re not gonna do anything about past they should at least start designing/reworking areas that will last. i don’t think anyone other than 3 collectors per week will visit siren isle once this season starts and siren isle is like the most recent content before 11.1
I think it is difficult - all phase stages are capable of bugging from time to time i.e. Undercity and tirisfal glades or Blasted Lands - Sometimes I must talk and change phase two or threee times to get where I want.
I think it is because of milisecond race, and since it is mmorpg there is not a lot of option to implement to prevent this.
basically it goes like this:
- code is running trough lines, first line, second line, third line etc. - when “code” meet requirements or and if statement etc it skips portion of the code that is meant to be skipped when certain flag is set or code requirement is fullfiled (for example getting achievement because you met requirements only once without getting extra points each time you do it on different character or getting same achievement everytime i.e. “do X quests” when X is higher then requirement like do 10 quests and get achievement but not when you will do 11, 12 etc quests)
- it is all good in single player game where you can delay code to be executed and order it to wait - you just overcome the milisecond race and you are good to go, but since it is multiplayer gam with a lot of stuff going on the game must set things right to be executed. for example: in single player mode game you can have DoT effect - the player puts DoT on the enemy and it is ticking. Enemy during that time will run, attack or whatever is intended to do. In multiplayer game though it is a bit different - game must constantly check if enemy is DoTed, how much HP it has, if any other player added other DoT, will this new DoT overwrite old DoT, is enemy dead for all players, and there are anticheat system to validate everything on top of that. There is a lot that could break around it, and some are dependable on your internet connection (and this is whole beast on its own like - what will happend when player will lost connection/get lag for a second etc.?)
- In case of terrain - some requirements must be met:
-Load proper terrain
-Load proper NPCs
-Load proper enemies
-Load proper scripts
This list goes on and on. And since it is list and cannot be load dynamic it must load in proper order. Now, what will happen, if one of the previous element won’t load? Well you will get bug and code panic asking “what now, what now, what now?” depending what you implemented - it could go to different outcome - but it seems in WoW the case is just to “abort loading and return to previous state and if it is not possible - stop loading stuff and wait untill the player will leave/reload the area”.
That being said - it is the reason why it is easier to make new zone with phasing than make phasing with phasing with phasing in old world/old zones - too many bugs will appear that Blizzard won’t be able to resolve and no one could to be honest - cos it is multiplayer game.
Also worth to mention - WoW is on the same enginge since development, so it has more than 20 years now. There is a little you can do in order to make modernisation without blowing it up.
hope that helps
Indeed, I often go to old content to gather things for my collections or achievements. Most commonly during the quieter times in seasons.
Yes, the only current content right now is this Deadmine filler.
Before Blizzard starts revamping anything, they should at least make sure everything works.
If they revamp fine but keep the original versions intact.
Legion showed how this could be done quite well.
All those quests to go get our artifacts back in old world locations really worked.
Even simple small quests like finding Varians compass and returning it to Anduin and walking around Stormwind worked well.
They literally already announced zone revamps for midnight and the last titan. Also, they often re-use older zones nowadays, e.g. in the undermine campaign we go to the kajamite mines in zulzadar
