Well we have been playing WoW for 20 years while other MMOS have been living way less then WoW even when having way smaller dev team then WoW and totally different Entry points(Buy to play none sub).
While GW2 new expansion been announced they introduced new End game system aka “Player housing” and that’s after having “Guild halls”(Guild housing) for a long time … i seriously been thinking where have blizz been? besides released new raid/dungs/no new end game systems besides M+ past ten years .
Why did we get Dragonriding only so late when GW2 a game that is Buy to play had Dynamic mount system for years and not only for flying but for different type of mounts …
Why does blizzard keeps sleeping and just releasing same Spread sheet they used to do every expansions , yes we are getting something new Aka Delves(Solo dungeon) but why we don’t get anything innovative while any MMO now days have Player housing / Guild housing / Jumping puzzles and so much more in terms of “End game systems”.
I think its an “in emergency break glass” kind of measure. Though the argument for that time being past is strong.
Edit: To be clear, housing done well would be an amazing thing. Garrisons were utter garbage, a textbook on what not to do. Hint Blizz, cos you still don’t get it.
- It’s not a place to insert random crappy grinds;
- See point 1
Simple , because releasing expansions make earn moneys.
Focusing in other stuff it require time and so moneys
Gw2 is getting housing next expansion so i imagine wow will have it soon.
if we do get this, you guys better make a Nightclub and have real DJ´s streaming in those houses, or I´ll make threads ranting about how pointless housing was.
There is a wowhead post that says PH was in game years ago even shows the portals but for some reason was abandoned and never implemented. What I find bizarre is the community has been asking for a very long time now for PH and they said it to implement it would cost a raid tier.
Even if they launch it in Midnight it will be a little too late. The right time was DF.
I would have gladly traded housing for the entirety of Shadowlands.
GW2 had “Dragon flying” and Ground mounts dynamic system with riding and combat skills like 6 years ago or 5 , so if that tendency continues we will have Player housing in 6 years xD or not at all because those games have Housing system or Guild housing systems for years upon years.
I wish we could get player housing but it would have to be done properly. None of this land grab nonsense. Proper instanced housing that everyone has equal access to. No power attached to it so people who don’t want it can just ignore it.
I think player housing would feel empty like garrisons did?
Guild housing, that I can get behind.
I would very much like to see player housing added to the game, assuming it were handled similarly to how the Elder Scrolls Online chose to implement it.
By that, I mean the following:
-
Multiple houses are available to the player in various sizes and locations, each based around the theme of specific playable races and even some non-playable races.
-
Houses are account bound and accessible by every character.
-
There is no rent or risk of losing a house once acquired. It is always there.
-
It is instanced, so it is not limited in supply. Other players can be invited to visit and hang out/role-play.
-
Furniture comes in many different styles, again based around various playable and non-playable races. It can be placed to one’s liking
-
It is entirely optional and focused on cosmetic appeal. There are some quality of life perks here and there for the sake of convenience but nothing game-breaking.
In short, it’s a great potential feature. Those with no interest in it can simply opt out.
Wow doesn’t need player housing.
If people want player housing, maybe they should play Guild Wars 2, because that seems to be a suitable game for it.
WoW’s strengths lie in other areas, like Gaming. it should concentrate on that.
People are all different but I have zero interest in guild housing. I want my own space. I don’t care for some mish mash of guild stuff or always being at the mercy of other people’s design decisions.
The appeal of player housing is my own customisable space that I have full control over.
Honestly I don’t think sacrificing one raid tier wouldn’t be even close to enough for programing proper player housing.
I honestly don’t even think the WoW engine would even be able to handle a system where you can manipulate the envoirement, even with player housing being an instanced area.
I’m pretty positive Blizzard would have to rewrite core parts of the engine to be able to let players place stuff where they want it.
Because placing furnishing where the player pleases instead of having specific locations (like in the garrison) would be the only thing the community would really accept at the end of the day.
I don’t quite understand the obsession with player housing. Even if done “properly” with loads of customization, to me it would still feel like garrisons 2.0. I suppose the RP potential would be nice, but I just don’t get what you’d wanna do there.
I imagine you’d just have an instanced “plot” of land and customize it how you want, but what then? Invite a friend over, friend goes “oh cool, your house is nice… now what?”. I just don’t get what the end goal is. Seems like a crazy amount of work for the devs, but for very little in return in terms of content other than showing your friend what you’ve done with your house every now and then.
One of the main complaints with garrisons was that everyone just sat in their own little instance corner. I just can’t see any sort of player housing being much different, and I don’t see a scenario where people don’t get bored of it after a few months at most.
I loved my garrison too but it wasn’t customisable, it didn’t have anything much I could decide or decorate. I unlocked it all, but it didn’t even have a bedroom.
Been searching wowhead trying to find that article where they show the portals to where player housing was meant to be implemented but never was. They were going to do it as far back as TBC so I am sure the engine would cope. The article just never mentions why the devs abandoned it.
I get that to some people it’s an appealing thing, but that doesn’t change what the main criticism of garrisons was. An instanced plot of land for people to sit in by themselves or maybe a few other people. It kinda goes against the “open-worldness” of the game, which is what people didn’t like.
That’s not necessarily my own criticism or something I care about personally, but I absolutely see it as very valid.
Yes, they started something, but that wouldn’t be even close to what people would want.
