Yeah, that’s a good point.
I didn’t really enjoy them in SL either. But then again, there wasn’t much in SL that I enjoyed.
Question: What theme/style would you most like to see for homes and its interior decorations?
While I love gnomes, I don’t think I’d enjoy a gnome interior much. I think I’d be inclined to just go for the traditional human type things; to make the home feel more like a home.
But I’d probably do different themes for different homes if there was that option; and try to pair them up with fitting characters from my warband.
I would not go for draenei style either. Wooden houses are usually my go to when i build in other games. They just look nicer. Maybe mixed with some fancy stone bricks. I made a lovely little hobbit hole in enshrouded
I have the tiny goat, was one of the first one i bought. We plan on just making our own group for mythic soo at some point, i still have some upgrading to do but 3-4 guildies are maxed out already.
My biggest issue is that I don’t want to be stuck with ugly orc architecture. Even human would be preferable over that. But ofc I’d love to be located in Eversong Woods and have that Arabian Nights feel build that they have for most of their architecture.
There are so many items already in game, I’m sure they could just copy those assets for the purposes of our homes/furniture etc.
At first I guess they could start with faction which ends up being Humans and Orcs because they are the face of both, so you have little wooden cottages and little metal or mudhut tents. This would be the free basic beginner house.
Then you can customise with racial stuff, get a few things off a vendor, some achievements, and have to go find/make more. After that I’d like some class specific stuff and trophies. Also be able to purchase a little house in each of the racial capital cities, maybe with time you can expand it to be a big phat house?
Eventually I suppose you could go towards force themes e.g. Light, Void, Life, Death, Elemental, Fel, blahblah. Maybe some specific expansion housing. How would you like your own hunting lodge in Nagrand? Perhaps a fishing one in STV? The possibilities are endless. The only problem is WoD and SL as they are technically closed off now.
My suggestion would be to just take inspiration from how TESO does it.
Add a vendor to each zone that sells specific pieces of furniture relevant to the zone in question. Tie unlocking the vendor to the acquisition of the zone completion achievement.
Make furniture plans drop pretty much everywhere. Raids, dungeons, PvP, the open world, specific events such as the community feast. It’d encourage more engagement for those interested and passively reward those who happen to acquire one even if they don’t go out of their way to farm them.
Make pretty much every in-game asset into a piece of furniture to place to one’s liking. Trees, tables, chairs, beds, statues and so on.
Embrace playable and non-playable race themed furniture. For example, there could be Blood Elf and Human furniture (as well as furniture for other playable races) but also stuff for fans of the Satyr and Naga.
Allow pets, mounts and NPC’s to be placed in one’s house to add to the immersion. In TESO, you can set them all on a path to ‘patrol’ your character’s house. Which helps make it feel lived in. I personally have a number of cats wandering the garden in my character’s home.
Make it instanced and available to everybody. This is the best compromise. FFXIV has limited housing in specific neighbourhoods and forces you to remain subscribed to keep it. TESO allows you to take a break for months or years and return to find everything as you left it.
Make it account bound. TESO also does this. You can access every house you own on every character that you make.
Allow for houses of different sizes. Some people will be satisfied with a simple inn room sized playground to call their own. Others, however, will prefer a grand and sprawling estate.
The thing I dislike most about TESO’s housing is the aesthetic (I generally don’t like the ESO style; it’s so drab), but of course with WoW having its own unique aesthetic, that shouldn’t be an issue.
But no, I do prefer the WoW art style. I also prefer somewhat smaller houses, there are some enormous ones in ESO that I just go “I… don’t even…can’t… how does… no.” Like the free one we got recently, thanks but it’s not getting anything
I honestly think some of the problem with Plunderstorm was how it was announced. Expectations were not managed well with this regard. We were expecting patch content in game. And we got an external PvP/BR mode.
I didn’t enjoy it but I appreciate that they are experimenting. Apparently they’ve toyed with the idea of having this kind of content for many years. From quite early on.
