It kind of annoys me that you fly through Oribos whenever you fly from one zone to the other…it feels so forced…“PASS ME!!!”
The premise sorta hinges on the assumption that Blizz wouldn’t mess it up beyond repair in the same way they botched the WoD Garrisons. Housing is supposed to be entirely optional and cosmetic which are two things that this company seemingly cannot comprehend the meaning of.
When the extent of player agency and choice in WoD came down to which predetermined plots of land you would place your huts on, the racial guards/banners and the statue you would display on your front porch you kinda got the sense that player housing as it exists in other games would never come to fruition in this one.
Sad days.
I can actually go and make a cup of coffee or toast, come back and still not have reached my destination
The slingshotting through Oribos everytime does cause a lot of travel time compared to other expansions.
they better add houseing to keep up with other MMOs.
Even OSRS has player housing.
Also the way you will still have to use flightmaster even when flying is unlocked!
Exactly.
People go to capitols because they offer stuff Oribos doesn’t. The end. They don’t go there to chat to random players or hobnob, most of that is done completely outside of WoW via discord these days.
If Oribos had an AH as well as the other stuff SW/Org do atm, barely anyone would go to those places except maybe roleplayers and the like. It would become a pit stop for a vast majority of the playerbase.
What we have at the moment is Oribos is a pit stop because it doesn’t offer everything, so if it did, it’d be just like Org and SW except it’s more directly connected to current content = Org/SW become ghost towns.
It speaks volumes that Blizzard’s solution to keeping the old world relevant is to purposefully make the new world lacklustre (Brokers have the foresight to be profitable enough to offer everything except an auction house, yeah, totally believable /s) as opposed to putting stuff in the old world that is good enough for it’s own sake and players would be interested in keeping and progressing over time; because it’s relevance has nothing to do with “current content” or power.
I mean Garrisons; they’re great to invest in whilst on TWing as is your class hall. But when you leave for SL, what’s the point? They’re out of the way and ultimately 90% of everything about them is about expansion-specific stuff and nothing in the “current content” reflects back on them to give them relevance.
mostly because you get then the people in the forum calling the world “dead” again because they cannot see players
but I agree with a poser above, if other cannot see your housing, it will fail as a feature. As most things are to show off.
Garrisons were more or less housing and it failed. (not for me…) People complained everyone is only leaving garrison for queues or something so wow felt dead.
Maybe it was lacking customization options or something, but i guess that wouldn’t have saved it either.
Because of garrison fail i doubt you will ever see housing
“You want to go to another zone? You will pay for the flightmaster and you will like it!” - Blizz
The thing is, as much as they might claim it was an experiment towards player housing, the garrison was a military base that tied directly into the story. There was no way they could make it more customizable .
If they do implement something it has to be kept separate from the story. Only by divorcing it from the expansion/main plot can it have any sort of permanence because in that way they can add options from inception right up to the point the servers are turned off and it will still matter. Profession recipes and customization options can drop from old and new content. Crafting materials both old and new can have relevance.
I would argue that garrisons would still have had a purpose today if they weren’t located in an alternate dimension and then tied directly to the goings on in WoD.
The maw-walker is homeless
They have added things in the past that are kept fresh throughout expansions for casual players…mogging…pet collecting…archeology…why not housing and give us different styles of furniture each expansion? Or add new houses to purchase in the new cities each new expansion?
It could also be a great gold sink.
there is houses in Stormwind and Ironforge whats empty what can be easly turned to a player house it is a waste to have them empty
Which if we go by history they’re very unlikely to do. The last time they did something that meets the standard was in MoP and the pet battle system and that is coming up on its 10 year anniversary now. (so old )
Everything that preceded it and followed has been stuffed full of gameplay that you are more or less required to participate in which is antithetical to what housing should be.
They actually still do to some extent. I regularly use it for my own personal AH which is easier and faster to access due to our personal teleport. The Squirt pet battle quest from the menagerie is also something that players still do whenever the pet battle weekly is up.
I think that most likely it’s something not that easy to implement, but being it of a cosmetic - only nature (or almost only) it keeps getting pushed behind in favor of other systems that are more game play oriented. If you think how much effort has been put into shadowlands systems, it would leave almost nothing in terms of time for cosmetic-only systems.
Then again, borrowed power isn’t made to last beyond the expansion. Houses on the other hand…
Player housing is always a bad idea.
I’d put my money on it being since the game is so old, giving us player housing would probably the same as giving players developer tools all things aside I don’t think they even have the staff for it now
Then wouldn’t be better a guild house rather than a personal one?
Or both? If it’s guild only you make the content meaningless for people without guilds, and that includes people who do regularly do group content but purely from a friends list/community rather than a guild - so it’s a rather questionable barrier to set up.
Far better to allow guild houses and personal ones.
Personally, If I had a house I wouldn’t leave and explore. I’ll stay there, going out only for dungeons. The fact that Oribos it’s just a Hub makes me go out of there.
Which serves only as a teleport location and some faster skill ups. And imo the worst skill to level up too.
