Player Housing could revitalise WoW

Allow Guilds to rule/controll city and rest have to pay tax just like in New world :rofl:

I totally loved it in Wildstar and would love it in WoW as well :green_heart:

Id love some nice customizable player housing. One of my favourite parts of MoP was building my farm… sadly it was never made to be something that carried forwards through other expansions but that kind of mini game would be a great template for Blizzard.
It was housing that you earned over time through rep gains rather then gold and together with the cooking profession quests was a really great addition.

I get that WoW is an MMO but I dont see whats wrong with giving us more single player content like that, as long as it is not reliant on main storylines or group content.

I think player housing would only work properly if the housing isn’t phased from the rest of the world, otherwise it’s just garrison 2.0.

Should have limited plots of land for player housing, and put the deeds of those in BMAH or in a similar auctioning system.

This isn’t SWToR, dear. We don’t swim in credits.

I’d want player housing.

The biggest argument I recall people had against player housing is that it would kill the social elements and cities.
Well, news flash, they’re already dead.

Covenants feel quiet, org is a AH hub, Oribos is a glorified transportation hub, and the game is divided into hundreds (if not thousands) of quiet shards.

Player housing would introduce new rewards too. Lord knows I’m tired of mounts, they just don’t excite me like they used to.

The game doesnt need anything making it more anti social and singleplayer-esque.

It needs hubs.
A PVE hub could be a place where the Valor Vendor, Vault, weekly/holiday Q’s, and training dummies exist in a well planned out space.
Where PVErs could stand around while queing and looking for more people, and at the same time practise rotations, watch others do it, and just talk. (People are quite talkative at the training dummies in my experience)

The LFG tool could even have a actual board there, like the warcheifs command board. Where players could click and sign up, and perhaps their names appear in a different color to those who arent currently looking. So you can even see and interact with the people currently in the mood to do something.

The same for PvP.
A spot where the PVP vendors, weekly quests, a dueling arena where you can sign up to duel and others can watch, where CDs reset after the duel. You can even add achievements to win streaks etc.
Where you can flag yourself if you are looking to do some PVP, so others can interact with you, inspect and just get a feel for you.

Maybe queing from this place would give you a leeway where the first 3 losses with that person will have a reduced effect on rating lost. To encourage giving people a shot. And also the more games you win with the same person, the more CQ you get. This doesnt punish people for leaving if they felt its a waste of time, but instead rewards people who stick together. Maybe youd get 50% more CQ per win and half of the base if you lost.

Basically taking the Gates of Org/Stormwind dueling phenomenon, and making it more an official hub.

TLDR; its a physical space for LFG tool, with the appropriate vendors and NPCs. (With no mounting)
The LFG tool would still exist, but this would in theory attempt to be a more social spot than doing laps in Orobos.

That sounds great, it really does. But that’s not how it would truly play out.

The reality is people will stand in silence AFK while some people attack the target dummies.
You can’t get people to talk by just shoving them together.
For example, the class hall in Legion, it was a small confined area with a few dozen people, it had target dummies, mission tables, upgrades, artifact weapon UI, the works.

I don’t recall a single conversation with a stranger inside my class hall.

Player housing could promote people to actually go out into the world and do stuff for a new reward system that is actually interesting. That’s what the game needs, motivation to play, not social AFK hubs.

May be true, but you increase the chances of social interaction for sure. And thats all we need sometimes.

No. Why would I? there’s nothing to talk about, not while doing my chores or focused on learning my rotation anyways.

You know what would be a good ice breaker? “Hey, come check out my new house! :D”

Some good ideas there, but no reason it couldn’t coexist with housing.

The point of housing as it is presented here is to give another goal to work toward. To give professions new content that can then be sold to other players to stimulate the economy. To give people a reason to be out in the world collecting mats or running old content together looking for recipes/drops.

And who would say that who aren’t your friend?

You think a random played will care about your house?

Not really, but if that’s how reality plays out then what social element is housing killing exactly?
If that’s how it occurs then social elements are, as I originally claimed, already dead.

But if I recall, Rift housing (or some other MMO I forget) was actually very popular to the point that people would post them online and compare / rate.
Same with POE.

In fact show me a game with player housing that doesn’t have a better social system than WoW. Even POE that is pretty much single player has more social elements with the player economy.

A community would form around it, just like with transmog/mount collecting/pet battling.

Players would create websites that showing off screenshots and/or ideas. Youtube content creators would showcase each others housing. In game, people will create guilds/communities centered around the content.

All of this would create more chances for socializing, nothing is taken away. These same players would still be involved in whatever other aspects of the game they enjoy, and players who don’t fit into any of the existing structures (Endgame/AH/Mog/Mounts) might find something they can bond with others over.

They died the moment Blizzard added LFD and the tourist mode on raids.
