Player Housing: What would you like to build?

We love to see a good ol’ fashioned searchable database! :relieved:

I’m very pleased to see I can through a combination of magey, warlocky, gnome and goblin items construct a really good mad sorcerer-scientist lab

I will have to make a whole bunch of those green candles… need spooky floating candles

The floating books will really add to the ‘completely disorganised wizard’ vibe I want to aim for.

Not seeing a lot of Troll stuff that isn’t zandalari junk inspired.

My dreams of a troll hovel fade.
Oh well. Elf spire it is.

They added a map of the neighborhoods with a picture of every plot.

A full 3D model of the Alliance zone too.

For my main: Windermeer Hall - a shabby country pile with library, dining room, trophy room, and ball room.

But since some homes will be open, I’ve toyed with the idea of a public library or museum.

man big L on blizz’s side not leaning into the americana of their fantasy world. i wanted a mid century atomic ranch with a white tusk fence outside and two wolves in the garage. the kids running a grog stand in the driveway or playing tauren and dwarves in the backyard.

I truly ache to have a quirky personal home for every strange alt. Hunting lodge, cat-mom’s hovel, ghost pirate’s armoury, bioweapon lab, smaug-like treasure chamber etc…

I hope they manage to let us build basements before launch. How am I supposed to build my Forsaken a laboratory with stairs that only go up? (I know you can fiddle with stuff but I don’t want to.)

this was delayed unfortunately…

also a reminder to max out your rep’s during legion remix, cause some items need honored rep!

I’m going to be a decor gremlin, I can tell. A Gollum-coded creature skittering around in an orcish homestead, cackling with glee when my most recent additions align just right with the rest of the in- or exterior.

Agreed, we need larders and underground basements for storage–

… I guess “larder” is really down to interpretation, here.

Edit:

Yeah I need a basement which may or may not have skeletons in.

I’ve made a very nice small apartment in the Housing editor. It’s really powerful, almost like a small game engine. While you are limited by how many of an item you own (and they’re relatively expensive), you can scale them, sink them into the floor, turn them to weird angles. I was able to turn a candleabra into a candlestick for example, and turn a treasure chest into a lockbox.

There are a lot of surprisingly interactive items, such as doors you can open and close, and lights that you can turn on and off (complete with animation).

It gave me this interesting idea for a venue. What if you were to make a dungeon, complete with NPC actors?

The actual housing zone is really nice. It feels very much like how they’d make Elwynn Forest and other zones of Southern Eastern Kingdoms if WoW were to be remade.

Besides the housing, there’s also a theatre, a vineyard and a winery, a brewery with waterwheel, a moon well, a lighthouse.

It feels very The Shire, in a good way. You can easily imagine Orcs marauding across it and burning everything.

As if to accomodate roleplayers, there’s a ‘public carriage’ stagecoach that circles the entire zone at a reasonable speed, taking you from the town to the outskirts and back again. It very much feels like they want to encourage that kinda stuff.

Yeah I had a bit of a play around before work and during my lunch break.
The exterior feels a lot more limited but also other people seem to have been able to do things which look really good to extend their house and I’ve probably just not found what they used.

I did bodge together an extension using backturned bookcases and the stormwind gazebo which for 10 mins of “I wonder if this works” didn’t actually look that bad - I imagine if you were to put a bunch of effort into it you could make some really impressive things.

Also made a path using the Elwynn Cobblestone items with varied sizes and sinking them into the floor a bit which I was pretty happy with so I’ll be doing that when it’s live.

The interior bit has some really powerful options, even with my very limited selection of items I was able to make a surprisingly intricate and cosy space. The tools let you really re-contextualise items in some very neat ways. The space you potentially have in your interior is huge and the interior wall items let you cut things up into smaller spaces in a pretty neat way.

Also useable doors!

The zones are lovely, the Alliance zone hits the exact nostalgia notes of hanging about in Elwynn, Westfall, Duskwood RPing 19 years ago and there’s a ton of little details all over the place. I didn’t spend nearly as long poking around the Horde zone but I love it’s verticality. Lots of great wizard tower potential in a bunch of the spots.

A thing I’d kind of love that you can’t currently do is deleting the exterior ‘house’ entirely and having like a magic portal door or something but also that does seem like a fairly weird thing to want.

The one thing I dislike is how terrible the neighbourhood looks (at least the Alliance one, haven’t seen the Horde one yet), I don’t really like the vibe of the zone being basically 3 mini regions based on 3 different zones (Elwynn, Westfall, Duskwood), it just feels kinda disjointed and visually jarring so I’m not sure I agree with this aesthetic choice. I’ve seen based on screenshots it looks way better on the Horde one though I’ll have to see it ingame.

I remain hopeful that they add a method to put in a basement, you cannot do that currently, you can only build up. I need a basement dungeon for my spooky haunted mansion on alliance side.
