Players trade fun for min max

I enjoy classic wow & all it has to offer. I enjoy the RPG & community element to it.

However, it feels as though players trade the fun of classic to be in the top 10% for even just a week… the constant ‘Reserved items’ and 80% premade groups in random BG’s to min max gear & earns per hour. Hell I even spoke with someone within a premade who admitted the grind ain’t fun… it’s constant & time consuming.

Why do players trade fun to be somewhat competitive in a game that was not created to be an e-sport of any type? it’s frustrating… just log in… have fun… do what you want rather then grind you don’t reaaaaly need.

If you fall into this category… you truly are destroying the game for yourself & others.

They chose to grind.

Small minded reply there, hope life treats you well bud.

I dont understand the need for a snarky comment like that.
People chose different things and value different aspects of the game in different ways.
Why should everyone play like you want?

Does this satisfy your needs?

“They chose to grind.”

If you don’t understand the point i’m trying to make… that’s on you chief not me… no argument needed.

Well, what are you after?

You don’t like premades, we get that.
You don’t like soft reserved groups. Why?
You don’t like min/maxing. Why?

Some people enjoy all this and find fun within it. What’s you issue with that? Getting 1 shotted in BG’s?
Don’t get invited to PuG raids due to lack of investment in character?
Can’t compete with other players due to lack of investment in character?

Because they choose to play like that. Even in different games, single player games even, there are parts that are not so much fun that you do so that you can get to the fun part. Same applies here, some don’t enjoy leveling but enjoy playing endgame. Some don’t enjoy grinding pvp ranks but do enjoy the benefits it brings after you’re done. And all of those are done so that you can have fun the way you want. Your fun =/= other people’s fun.

What if their fun is min/maxing? What if grinding for that one item is fun for them?

I always get the good chuckle seeing all the Sweatlords min-maxing. I was invited to do LBRS earlier and it was a legit speedrun, because one of the guys was so sweaty.

that’s the one. same with athletes and strict diets, 5am runs and thousands of other hours training themselves in their chosen profession. that’s not the fun bit, but the end goal of being a champion is.

People can play how they wish. If you don’t like it then unfortunately there’s not a lot you can do, or find people who like to play the game the same way as you do.

“Small minded reply” for a small minded thread.

Welcome to the genre. All mmorpgs are based on character progression. Some people do it via fishing or leveling nth alt, some people do it via raiding for 1% improvement.

Same thing.

This is all very true and the reason why I left. Back in the day people did not know what items are in the game, where they drop and if they are any good (i.e. BiS or not) so people were just doing dungeons and gearing was just a part of fun. Today people know exactly which dungeons they need to go and they are making claims on those items even before they drop. I was rarely joining such groups but the problem is that once avoiding such groups, the player population is getting significantly low and finding people for dungeons took ages. I have much less time I can spend playing the game now and this is why I recently tried retail. Despite there are dozens of changes I can´t stand and individual drops being one of them, I still find it better that dealing with people reserving items in Classic and I am sort of having fun. Standard group loot is ofc the best solution ever made, too bad it is basically no longer present in either of the game.

Truth is, without the min/max crowd this game would have been more dead than it (during periods) is. It gives meaning and goals to alot of people who otherwise wouldnt have played.

What if I find it fun to ‘min/max’?
What if I like to play with my guild in BGs?
If you don’t like that I hard reserv 1 item from the raid I’m starting you don’t have to join.
And yes, most players who go for rank 14 think it’s tedious, but the rewards are amazing so that’s why they do it.
Why did people do Island expedition for 5h/day in retail?

Because not every ‘fun’ endresult has a fun journey to said result.
Nobody likes to grind for months, but the fun comes after.
Same for reserving items, losing an item you want isn’t fun right? Winning an item, becoming stronger is fun.
Pointless thread this is all common sense and personal preference.

They do not “trade fun”… that what you refer to is not fun for most players anymore. It wás fun for more people during the early years of Vanilla when everything was new and unexplored. The world, the spells, the interaction with people from all over the real world, etc… All that stuff is now old and bland for most players and kinda taken for granted, just like fresh clean water from a fawcet in the kitchen.

All that is left is an armsrace and bragging rights.

It was a bit of a wake-up call for me as well tbh. Classic is NOT Vanilla and i stopped playing it after about 2-3 months.

And lord knows i’ve been looking forward to it. :disappointed:

Posts complaining about the attitude of other players keep popping up.

You can solve about 80-90% of the attitude problem by rolling on a pve server.

Saying it would solve all your problems would however be a lie.
You’ll still have people making premades in pvp because they want to win.
You’ll still have people reserving items in the raids and dungeons they spent the time organizing and leading.
You’ll still have people buying and selling boosts because it’s the path of least resistance.

So at the end of the day it’s a matter of what you focus on. Joining the type of server and guild that’s right for you and seeking out or organizing the events you want to take part in is the way to go.

If your goal is to change the entire world (of Warcraft) then that’ll be a challenge.
