I left the game in BfA. Just came back for Dragonflight. Jesus… the expac is awesome by far. The only thing I dislike is class mechanics.
Perhaps I am wrong, but I feel that the dmg output outside the cd window is garbage, and while CD-s are up skyrocketing… I don’t really like this. The whole game is about managing your CD-s.
Classes became too complex. I feel like I have to use like 15 buttons in the right order. Rotations are too complex. That’s my opinion strictly. But I want to play a game, not do rotation mathematics in my head.
TOO many proccs to handle, too many cd-s to handle, too many bullsht that makes the game feel like a job, instead of a relaxation.
So except for everything else… the xpac got really good.
I’ve never found any MMO being solely about managing your cooldowns.
Classes are not as complex as they used to be and due to the amount of addons, which are out now, people are make things even easier.
If you’re having such a hard time with everything, then download the MaxDPS addons and just follow it’s highlights.
Just remember that if you find that a game you play is now turning into, as you say, “a job”, then it may be the best idea to quit this game and find something, which you can just sit back, relax & enjoy.
Rotation helpers only really work if you have like no clue about your rotation. That’s why people see an increase in DPS from using them. You’ll do more damage by actually learning your rotation.
Not sure what you’re playing, but if you want a class/spec that isn’t about managing CDs and doesn’t have many buttons to press, I’d suggest BM hunter.
You can have builds with loads of buttons or go down as many passive abilities as you can to get fewer. Frost Mage for example… holy crap on a cracker. You can basically get everything! Fun for bosses, not so much for trash.
For me the mobs are the issue in terms of it not being relaxing. The normal mundane mobs have too many abilities too fast, I can’t interrupt or stun the majority of them because I’ve used the CD. As melee you rarely get to stand still. I can do it no problem but eventually it becomes draining… I can go do M+ for this stuff.
So that plus the tank nerf made me switch to BM Hunter. Much more relaxing.
Yes you were.
I always have to laugh when ppl on the forums / reddit ask for an easy to play class with few buttons and the first answer is: Demon Hunter.
Just shows that the ppl suggesting this haven’t played DH themselves since Legion. If you wanna play DH “right” nowadays you have to manage so many cds with the Momentum build and Glaive toss as a main dmg ability it gets complex very fast. Yes, there are still “easier” builds, but they also do less dmg if played correctly.
Talent trees made most classes a lot more complex to play in terms of dps while taking away utility, because dmg talents compete with utility talents. Generally I’m not a fan of the new trees because of that.
Honestly i like this type og gamestyle.
One of the things that bothered me the most about WoW back in the days was the fact that you had 40spells, but only 10 of them were spells you would use regularly.
While like 10 of them were situational and 5 of them were EXTREMLY situational.
about 5 more was CDs.
And the rest was like wierd casual stuff, like Lockpicking and what spells you wouldn’t use in whatever build you had running.
Alteast now it is clear cut, f.ex as an Elemental Shaman, in a Lightning Bolt/Earthquacke build, i mainly use Lightning bolt, Chain Lightning, Flame Shock, and Lava Burst.
And then my rotation depends on pack size and situations.
The rest are Cooldowns which are used situationaly.
It let’s me focuz more on the gameplay, rather than having an excell spread sheet on my second screen just too remember what too use in every situation, letting me actually play the game and dodge mechanics.
But if i were too point out an MMO which i think has done combat perfectly, then i’d point out Guild Wars 2.
It’s a fantastic game with amazing combat.
EDIT; In a more direct response too the post itself.
I would say that the classes feels like LESS of a job now than they have ever done before.
Abit varying on classes, but after levling up 8 different classes too max, i would say that Priest has been the hardest class too play at the moment.
Well, if a ‘2 button’ spec that’s more about using one of those buttons to maintain uptime on a buff than about CD usage is ‘too difficult’, I honestly don’t know what to suggest. The reason so many hunters reroll if tuning forces them to play BM is because they find it so boring.
While I agree that current DH is harder to play than the general public gives it credit to, you don’t manage momentum. It activates so often playing your regular rotation that minmaxing it is pointless as it’s at most a 1-2% dps gain.
And managing glaive toss is just making sure you never cap stacks. AKA press the button every 5 or w/e seconds.
