Tomorrow TW event will start.
I was checking my characters and noticed that this Hunter has actually a higher ILV than the Hunter that I have been investing more time in.
I think the other one has a WoTLK five run chest reward completed unlike this one.
Still overall this comes on top in terms of ILV.
I went and inspect my two warriors and even though both of them have the same time invested, same gearing process, my Orc Warrior has higher ILV items than my BE warrior. 425 vs 417.
One got two weapon drops ILV 425 the other has two ILV 410 bought from vendor.
Which reminded me of this reply in this topic:
That seems a very good strategy.
Considering the amount of RNG we are getting.
Could it be that the best way of gearing a character isn’t actually focus on one but play two or more and than pick for a event where you need your best character (raid, PVP) the one that comes on top ?
Sometimes I read on forum that some players complain that their alt is now better geared than their main, because the alt got better RNG.
Of course this would only work if the player loves a certain class above any other.
At the top end people indeed have/had 2-3 same classes that they play, but just see there reasons on why they did it.For eternal palace it was the pearl gear bis and it was rng,at the start it was mostly related to azarite traits.
But now that the expansion is set in stone, they removed the titanforgin, and with the corruption vendor i cant see what kinda of rng people can talk now.Azarite traits can be targeted, essences have no rng component, gear cant tf,corruption has vendors.Take all of that into account when you base your decision.
Keith the sheer amount of RNG and layered RNG in the game right now, it only makes sense that having more identical characters is more RNG chances. And then as you say, just a result of picking whichever one gets luckiest with gear.
Mostly it normal to get 2 character for the same classe : 1 for Alliance and 1 for the horde.
Since they got differents queue, when you don’t find a group in the horde side, you relog with your alliance character and find a group with allliance and vice versa.
Here i my case why i will get a lot of marksmanship is because i love the class and i know in the future i will still love it. As i love the systems of racial and how impactfull in the gameplay it is, i love combining Marksmanship hunter with other racial.
As for RNG i think still the Weekly Chest will give more gear than any "normal content " ( M+ / Ranked PvP etc) yes it is valuable.
But as well said Nivmie :
You may not have to optimise all those character to 100% bis stats and gear, maybe more around 75%-85% optimisation. Only your main you will make him 100% of optimisation.
As i already experiment multi-alting in S3 BFA, i clearly see that i was lacking ilevel when comparing to people that played only 1 character.
So in the post i quoted since my worgen is my main character i will maybe play :
50% Worgen
35% A hordde character ( maybe blood elf or HMT)
15% other to test out the other convenants too.
THis is a choice if you like diversity or curiosity or you love mainly 1 character for gear and stuff and you don’t like alting.
As for me i know i love Marksmanship hunter so to know what i must do for bis stats and everything i know the way. But if that was 6 differents classes, clearly i couldn’t hold such alt to be up to date in term of gear and gameplay everytime to deal proper number.
That why now i limited myself to Marksmanship hunter / Warlock demonlogy / X ( maybe Subtely rogue or Arcane mage ).
In risk to spend too much time and don’t have enought time to play at the level i want with each character ( that why in raid i can’t aim Mythic since i already too much thing to do and can’t stay on a main character joing a Mythic Guild or my alt will not get the level i want too. )
