Plea from Turkish Community

I already tried to explain.

Just 1 word - choice. Blizzard got no choice. U play - or u dont. Thats it. Steam got this choice.

Yes Blizzard does not that wide options like Steam. Like Epic Games its up to you to grow. They brought Fortnite to gamers and we can see how Epic Games’ situation for now. Blizzard might get the same growth or more its about the putting the new product. Maybe Battle Royale game in Azeroth for example :joy: or Auto Chess version of WoW characters idk :joy: Or new type that can be trend for gamers

That is a very strange sentence. The country is under serious threat for many, many years and if that threat realizes, it is the people that will suffer. You will suffer too, indirectly, wherever you are in the EU. Is you country going to come to Greece’s aid if the country is attacked by a not-to-be-named aggressive neighbor? The answer to that question is why Greece is spending more than it’s required (by NATO) to spend on its military. And given the threat, it’s not even enough!

It does come out of other countries’ citizens but all that money is paid back with interest. It’s not just about money though, this is a very complex discussion to take place on a WoW forum and at an irrelevant thread at that. Both the economics and the geopolitics involved are not to be discussed here.

All that being said, Greece should be grateful for the help it received and many Greeks are grateful indeed. But no, bailouts didn’t actually cost EU taxpayers anything. You can rest assured, no country would contribute if it was against its interests to do so.

What is even your point? I am talking about the conversion to Turkish Lira and what it would entail.

As far as I know the following is included in your rent in Turkey in a lot of housing:
Electricity, water, sewerage, telephone, internet, gas and satellite packages

I pay 60 euro for Internet, 20 euro for TV, 20 euro for telephone, 150 euro for gas/electricity/water, 15 euro a month for sewage.
Total: 265 euro or 2191,06 TL

My rent is: 964 euro

Food/drinks:
Weekly basis: 100~ euro or 826,81 TL
Monthly basis: 400 euro~ or 3307,26 TL

For a grand total of: 1629 euro or 13468,8 TL – Which is higher than the average income in my country btw. The only reason I can afford this is by sharing the rent with 2 housemates.

In Turkey:
Average wage: 3200 TL
Rent: 700-1000 TL (Average)
Utility cost: 0 TL OR 488,68 TL average
Internet cost: 0 TL OR 111,7 TL average
Household Telephone cost: 0 TL
Sewage cost: 0 TL OR 82,68
TV/Satellite cost: 0 TL
Food/drinks: 209,44~ a month

For a grand total of: 1892,50 TL or 229,24 euro
Which means on an average income in the worst case scenario where you pay for everything stated above you have around 1300 TL left or 157,47 euro

So you’re telling me you don’t have anything left to afford a subscription of 12,99 euro or 107,4 TL from that amount? You can even save more by taking a subscription for 10,99 (90,87 TL) a month.

Which party from Battle.net takes a percentage? It’s all under the same company name. Are you purposely trolling or?

Every game on the Battle.net platform is CREATED by Activision-Blizzard, every server, Battle.net platform, advertisements etc etc … everything is PAID for by Activision-Blizzard.

Steam pays for the DOWNLOAD-SERVERS and the Platform. They have 0 production costs as they are not creating any games at this moment, they don’t have to pay for advertisements for the games. They basically give the developer access to upload their game and passively get richer and richer from sales percentage they receive.

You think Turkey is stupid enough to attack Greece? They would be dealing with international sanctions, attacks/invasions from NATO…etc etc they would NEVER win. You think a few lousy submarines is going to help if Turkey actually decides to invade Greece? Yet your countrymen are starving, scraping by…

I still pay for it and I don’t receive anything in return. Cold but simple fact. It’s not like I get a coupon for the next time I visit Greece I get discounts on random activities.

My countrymen are not starving - I don’t know what gave you that impression. My rent is 900 euro - just like yours! Now, our submarines aren’t lousy at all and yes, clearly, 11 submarines can definitely help defend the country. What are you talking about? That is how deterrence works - you don’t have to have exactly as much as your opponent but enough to cause more damage than your opponent hopes to gain in the event of an attack.

It wouldn’t make sense for said country to attack at all but there’s no guarantee that it won’t. Countries don’t always behave rationally. What a great world would it be for all of us if that was the case! Sanctions, international law and invasions (to Turkey) from NATO? It is clear you are widely misinformed on the matter. Well, to be exact, sanctions would be a given (and they would hurt a LOT) but the rest…

Yeah, it doesn’t work like that. Let’s say your country’s contribution was 1 billion. You get 1.1 billion in return (your country does). It is still VERY much appreciated because there’s what we call an “opportunity cost” - that money could be spent elsewhere, more profitably. You are getting a lot more back than you think though.

All that being said, I’m all for taking measures so no EU country has to be bailed out again, ever.

That’s what I meant when I said “they are the same”.

What I don’t get is that you seem to identify the steam sales purely with steam. That’s the part we have some misunderstanding about.

It’s not the PERCENTAGE (caps for emphasis only!) that steam adjusts, it’s the WHOLE price. So it’s not just steam that’s affected from price change, it’s all parts. And also, it’s the publishers-developers that decide the pricing on Steam, not steam itself.

If Steam “bought” games like a wholesale for cheap, then sold them and adjust the profit margin depending on currency, then yes, there would be a big difference.

But that’s not how it works. The whole price is affected and it affects all parties.

So what you say about Steam is definitely correct. But you seem to be ignoring the part that the developer/publisher is also affected the same way.

I don’t see the difference in terms of mechanics.
There IS a party that developed the games, paid for the costs etc and sells the game. They adjust the prices depending on region.

Sure, in one case there is a middle man, but that doesn’t change the above situation. In fact, one could argue that in comparison, Battle.net is even more advantegous for the developer because in this case, developer is getting all the “adjusted price” while the developer that publishes on steam gets “adjusted price - 30%~ (steam’s cut)”

My point is the game is global from any region that you can find new gamers. And the cost is not the same to start playing it as normally. My suggestions were not about Turkey based idk if you read them all or not. That 701 Euro thing was just the example that how prices look like from different country and show to difficulty to get new player from different country. Steam references or Epic Games references are just the example that people can see that services. As a client its normal to ask that I believe. Other guys might ask discount for realm change price idk we are all clients in here. And just want to make sure that I didn’t suggest that “In Turkey BFA’s price should be 44.99 TL or in Poland the price should be 44.99 PLN”. As I said they can have their own ratios for those countries.

About your rent water elecricity things I would say Average values does not help to analyse it you should look at the gap that difference between country’s poorest person’s salary and country’s richest person’s salary. The value of the gap can tells you how your country is in economic way. And these are local values you earn your salary with Euros pay them with Euros. Other countries earns with other currency pays with other. Your internet provider would be great my provider would be worse we can’t know that either. or Your electrity might be more efficient than mine aswell. These are local things. If my network provider is worse than yours I need to ask the service from my provider not from your provider because it is the Local thing. Its same as about houses. And you said with your math that I have 157.47 euro from my pocket. My income is not Euro by the way so if euro and tl were equal your grand total 1629 would be same as 1629 TL. so my income is lower than you as you would imagine. I don’t want to keep it that long.

Video games, Platforms like Spotify or Netflix are global. Blizzard is also global. We might not eat the same food but we can do the same raid together thanks to WoW. I just want to still discuss nicely in “Gaming” perspective I am not politician or economist. So “Go and fix your economy” thing I cannot fix the economy or “Go and change your government” thing I have no power to change it I have only have individual vote to vote for any party that I want. “One vote might change everthing” thing might be true but I would like to suggest you to check recent elections. I am software developer and I enjoy playing video games on my free times. If you want to talk with me about Artificial Intelligence or something like that I would gladly talk with you like hours.

CAn’t believe it’s still going on. Can you pleaing guys get some decency? Especially the dude from Germoney asking for sub discount

Do you know that they have a casus beli on us? Wouldnt you expect from your country to spend on defense if they had a casus beli from a neighbor? Also defensive war is much easier than breakthrough… we may not have the military power of Turkey but we are in 25-30 military powers in the world. And no, nor NATO nor the EU will help us in case of war… they may make some bold statements but thats it.

PS. I have friends in Turkey, we have nothing with the people there. Its their goverment and specifically Erdogan who causes all the trouble.

Because that’s the impression you and your fellow countrymen are trying to make in this topic, like you have literally nothing to spend on the game and if you would, you would have no food. Submarines won’t do much against a full-blown land or air invasion.

I know governments of countries don’t act rationally at all times. But I would still imagine the Turkish government is intelligent enough to know they would completely be obliterated on an economical standpoint. So even if they were to gain land (temporarily) the price to pay would be incredibly high. NATO will retake the land or invade Turkey and they would have nothing to show for at the end of the day.

Which in turn goes back into the EU-funds…My country pays 7-8 billion euro annually and receives 3,3 billion in return.

In my country wages hasn’t risen as hard as products we need on a daily basis to survive. So everything is getting more and more expensive but our wages are pretty much at a standstill. Fun fact: Healthy and required products to survive such as bread, fruits and vegetables have a higher tax than any of the other products. So you pay more tax over healthy products than unhealthy.

Are you seriously using my own explanation I gave you against me? Clown world really…

You keep coming back with the senseless Steam vs Blizzard anology that makes literally ZERO sense.

Blizzard self-made apples:

  • Has to pay for employees
  • Has to buy seeds
  • Has to buy land
  • Has to pay for rent of store(s).
  • Has to advertise
  • Has to pay for tools/equipment to harvest
  • Receives the full price of products/services but is offset by costs listed above.

Steam sells Nordiq’s apples and fruits from other producers:

  • Has to pay for employees
  • Has to pay for rent of store(s)
  • Receives a percentage of the sales they make.

Steam doesn’t have to do much in comparison to Activision-Blizzard yet receives a good portion of the sale price of the products. It’s a completely different thing. In any given situation, Steam is profiting from the developers.

Steam takes a 30% cut from the sales up till certain sales numbers where it goes to 25% > 20% etc.

The reason we look at average values is to see if your statements make any sense and according to my prudish calculation you can easily pay for 12-13 months subscription of 11,99 euro a month with the money that you have left over. Which is similar to people in my country living on minimum/average wage.

You’re only looking at “oh he earns more it’s unfair” but not looking at how much more expensive food/drinks/utilities/rent and other things are in my country.

Blizzard works based on regions and the euro is a stable currency, it serves Blizzard no purpose to invest in involatile currencies such as the Turkish Lira or reduce prices to a point where they basically pay you to play on their expensive servers.

Well as far as you’ve all explained it’s a countrywide problem, so I would imagine almost everybody would voice their concerns against it?

That casus belli is already considered void, you think NATO would sit back with popcorn if Turkey acts upon the ‘casus belli’? Erdogan has no allies in NATO, it’s unlikely any country would shed a tear if he’s removed. He had clashes with so many leaders of so many countries. But yeah a good portion of the Turkish people support his ways.

And when Epic undercut them, players went nuts

I really don’t get the hate for the Epic Games platform, more competition is better for consumers and I really don’t care if I have to install a different platform to play a game.

Takes literally a minute to create an account and install the platform. So much for a hassle…

Not to mention developers (including indie) receive more money from the sales they make.

Yes, not to forget that indy devs can basically use unreal engine for free.

I don’t know how subject came to that point but Greece can’t compete with Turkey when it comes to war no matter what they spend to defensive equipments. Luckily both countries are not that stupid, they’ll just threaten each other verbally, I mean politicians.

I visited Greece twice in last 3 years, Greek people don’t like working that’s for sure :smile_cat:

Of course we are friends, despite killing each other 100 years ago think it like WoW story, we fight, we make peace.

Muh dude Erdogan is too busy in his palace don’t worry  his palace’s daily costs are equal to 41.946 monthly subs with 13€ price. - daily- :smile_cat:

1.258.391 monthly.

I don’t know when you are going to think in globally but my income might be lower than yours and my outcome might be lower than yours. (But definitely I can say that your reference for Turkey’s outcomes are incredibly wrong. I would suggest you to check them correctly.) Since it is Local. Local means the things that only happen in your country. For instance in my country I can eat X food you can eat Y food. But if you are global company that can bring and sell services Worldwide such as Burger King,McDonalds you can expand in just not in Food Industry btw. You can set the prices for each country in different prices like them.

So Please lets stay in “Gaming” platform only. As you can see Blizzard has players from Worldwide. So any person from any country can play WoW right ? With higher ms or lower ms depends on the distance between you and server. Eventually we can play the same time. That means any person from any country might be Blizzard’s new client. So do you think that person might ask to pay with his own price which Blizzard made price for that person or paying with euros ?

Yea, except burger king buys local produce in local currency, not in Euros. See why you can’t compare them?

You can’t keep this topic on ‘gaming only’ when it regards income and spending power that influences whether or not you can purchase games or can afford subscriptions.

The calculations I made are based on searches on the average rent, average utlity cost, average cost of consumption per day etc etc. – So it might not be the same for every single person or every single region in Turkey but should still be an indicator of where the average Turkish person stands.

If you like to spend 50% of your leftover money on clothes, 30% of your leftover money on candy, 15% of your leftover money on the gym/nightclub and then complain because you don’t have enough money to do all that + afford a WoW subscription. It’s a you problem.

You can’t compare a food industry to a gaming industry. Every person eats food, but not every person plays games. The food industry is also a lot bigger than the gaming industry.

^…and this yes.

its a big story that is not for here. Defensive wars are much much easier, also the terrain favor us as well. Also you dont know what domino effect it can have and who else is gonna join, I mean Turkey have more “enemies” as well.

In any case I hope nothing will happen. War is war, even if you win you still lose a lot. And dont know where you visit and why you made the conclusion that Greeks dont like to work… European statistics show Greeks are in top positions as hours of work. The Islands are working with seasons. They work almost all day in summer and they dont work (because no tourists) in Winter… maybe you visited a tourist area not in summer?

I visited Alexandroupoli during summer. I got shocked when cafes and restaurants got closed in the middle of the day all of a sudden, do you call it siesta?

no idea really :stuck_out_tongue: Maybe it was a public holiday. Especially Cafe are open all days of weeks, so if they were closed then it would be a public Holiday! I have visited Edirne many times as well :stuck_out_tongue: My friend always asks me to bring him Uzo (an alcohol drink in greece)
