I was probably the first one to ask for barber shop in these forums, making 2 threads during phase 1 and phase 4 of classic wow.
But right now I am not for it. Because the context has changed, and we know at this point after they added boosts, cash shop and mounts to TBC that they are trying to convert classic into more and more paid services, convenience features etc. Boosts were the first foot in the door, and a month later, we saw a new mount, then 2 new toys and one month later we saw the cash shop interface being leaked out of TBC beta. They took the community’s willingness for “some changes” which had nothing to do with paid boosts or cash shop services and used it to rationalize these changes that are antithetical to classic’s foundation. A complete juxtaposition of all of classic’s design philosophies is being pushed by Bobbylizard.
Barber shop is probably the most innocent and most acceptable feature that the game could have. But again, at this point, I know that if they add barber shop, every ill-minded person will take it as an opportunity to legitimize other changes to the game and they will keep asking for more convenience features on every platform.
So, just because of the current situation and their efforts of making classic a new themepark game filled with convenience features, catch-up mechanisms, etc. I will be against barber shop. Wish that we could trust the company and the legions of retail babies being poured into classic after they managed to devour their game that they will be happy with a barber shop but won’t use it as an excuse for implementing LFR into the game, but we can’t really.
