The Faction War is a contrivance confected to have some PVP. It never made much sense lore wise. Orcs are fighting Elves because there’s tree and the Orcs want to make some pointier bulwarks or something.
Not really sure why Dreanei or Blood Elves ended up where they did. The elves were always allied with the Humans but I guess they didn’t like Night Elves or something. As for Draenei, well er, I guess, hmm, reasons…
Ok, bloodelves have an explanation bit still is very wacky why thez ended up at horde.
So bloodelves had beef during the 3th. War with grand Marshall Garithos, the supreme commander of the remaining alliance forces in lordaeron (and a extreme xenophobic guy) he dint suport the bloodelves and work activity aginst them, seed then on suicide mission with lack of Ressourcen.
So onece he cancelled all suport the bloodelves desperate accept the help of the naga who were advised by illdan to help them.
Garrithos get wind if it and arrested them for treason and wanted to execute them.
They managed to fleed to outland, breaking with the alliance.
The remaining bloodelves quit also the alliance and they got an offer by sylvanas which they accept, which is still…weird since the horde contains also the enemy of the bloodelves, the trolls- threi arch nemesis, orcs-who burned the forest if qeul thals and the Forsaken -the monsters who as part if the scourge being responsible fir the destruction if quel thalass.
(The real reason why bloodelves ended up at hirde was that the hirde shall have an pretty race-and yes, this is even confirmed by Blizzard(
For the dranei is more simply: after they crashed they found an alliance ship crew and the offerd threi hel and well, they befriend them and the dranei joined the alliance (also the bloodelves sabotage the ship so tgat they crash)
How much of that is retconned in wiki, world book and similar?
Also joined the Alliance because the first people they meet are friendly and oh ok then…
Saying that it’s no more ludicrous that Nightborne joining the Horde because Tyrande was a little snooty.
They have to keep confecting this contrivance with each new race. Except Pandas and Dragons.
Considering that designing stuff for two sides also led to lopsided situations (Cata levelling, Alliance entry to Twilight highlands involving an unfunny situation with a webcomic character), i’m fine with Blizz saving money.
Making two of everything also adds the requirement to make them equal, or you get disgruntled players, save the trouble, make one thing for all of them.
I’m all up for it. Get rid of this love and friendship narrative and bring the old feuds back.
I don’t care how they do it or if it makes sense lorewise. Doesn’t have to be a full scale war either, just enough salt and pepper to keep the story interesting.
Basically, Garrosh was this dude that wanted to live up to his father Hellscream. He beleived that his father was weak and a traitor for drinking Manoroth’s blood. And after Thrall explained to him in TBC the sacrifice Hellscream did, Garrosh was then trying to live up to his father’s name and honour. That is TBC and WotlK Garrosh.
And then… he goes and drinks some old god blood. Makes absolutely no sense.
What should have happened is Y’Shaarj simply escapes a bit, corrupts the mantids a bit more and its all out war with the mantids. DONE.
No. The Black Tauren (I dont remember their names) poisoned Garroshe’s axe with out him knowing. With the intention of having him murder the Tauren leader in an otherwise “friendly” duel (as in not to the death) over a disagreement. The point was to destabilize the Horde.
But the plot was uncovered by players and Garrosh got redemed. And the black tauren kicked out of Mulgore.
That is not what you see in the questline in Silverpine Forest when Garrosh appears.
One othr thing, even for logical reasons, permanent war makes no sense, precisely because war is also a struggle for resources.
Weapons and armor have to be produced, which requires resources (which you need in the First Place) but at the same time you need manpower - which is also largely lacking when everyone is at war.
Where do you want to get all the soldiers for the war, eventually you’ll run out of them too
What about the finances, soldiers (and officers) want their pay, war materiel also has to be bought (or at least the resources), not to mention the production.
What about food, as mentioned above - who takes care of the harvests when the farmers are drafted for the war - in the end there is a shortage of food.
It’s always so easy to call for total war, but in the end you have to think about what a huge rat tail is hanging around.
And you can’t just conjure everything out of a hat in a fantasy setting - in the end that makes everything, including the world building, unbelievable.
All the points mentioned above, most of the real wars never lasted long, even the Thirty Years’ War and the Hundred Years’ War weren’t fought in one piece - precisely because of a lack of everything, the first was also ended because all the pacts were simply at an end.
And many people quickly get tired of war, just look at the first world war and see how quickly the desire for war disappeared on the part of the soldiers and the civilian population.
Permanent war is only a burden for everyone and in the end you only harm yourself and give radical ideas fertile ground points to Russia and ultimately the German Reich.
In the end, the war mongers are always thrown out of office and a new order is established
One often overlooked aspect of the Alliance and Horde being in a constant state of war is the existence of faction-specific camps and outposts while leveling. For me, some of the most memorable and engaging leveling experiences—such as those in Classic, Mists of Pandaria, Warlords of Draenor, and Battle for Azeroth—stem from the distinct differences between the Horde and Alliance in each zone. These differences give players a compelling reason to play both factions, offering unique perspectives and stories for each side.
In contrast, the last three expansions have shifted toward predominantly neutral questing, with very little, if any, nuance between the two factions.
I am absolutely fine with the recycling of Horde vs. Alliance being at an end. They don’t have to be the best of friends, holding hands and walking off towards the sunset with one another - but coming up with more hackneyed excuses to rekindle that conflict would be even worse.
I want War in Warcraft, but I quickly lose interest when it’s the same sides over and over again. Here’s to hoping the Arathi Empire will give us a good fight.
I don’t agree to be honest you still can do World pvp and do conflicts no matter if you are horde or alliance conflicts its always between us people doesnt matter what race are you playing. So if you want conflicts just make one.
If they can do faction war without making the horde evil go for it. If not keep it gone. Also the Warcraft is all the things we fight not just the faction war. Like atm were in a war against the void
I just got the info that wowpedia lists those who die after reanimation as suicide so that seems to be not a choice thing but I will look into this more.
The game tells us in the starting zone that every forsaken has the choice to serve or do what they want. But I will play through silver pine again in the next days and look what is said there
Not quit, it was a Hostile takeover inThunderbluff.
Is was in the novel basicly night of the long knives, they murder in teh city evryone in sleep who coud be a thread to threir regime and loyalist.
I woud qout taht but to much to quato and to translate into english.
They also aferward kill even at random, just to show tehy can/ for terror.
Bain even spared them from execution, he coud have kileld tehn but decided not.
TBf, he dint know, magatha grimtotemn poised it, digues it as blessing (which is accroding to the novel) normal.
After he find out what happend and won by cheating, he turned aginst her.
yeah, taht impleid but after paly through silverpince its empty words, tehy killd refuges and reanimate them fo push them into servive- we see the same later in andorghal with teh famer who get killed, animated ans turn aginst threi friend, people supcet sinc then also some mind control coponet (but we dont know taht)
The thing is where would that mind control come from?
Arthas controlled the dead through the helm and I gues also through frostmourne but sylvanas does not have that power.
She can control people by putting a banshee in them since that’s a banshee ability but I highly doubt she has a banshee for every forsaken soldier or that she puts them in random farmers when she could put the banshee directly in the person the farmer should kill
She had it with the Valkiries. That was the whole point of enslaving them.
Later on on BFA or something the alliance destroys the lantern she used to control the Valkiries.
And in SL it is somewhat implied what was going on. You enslave to your will a couple of Kyrians to “take” the souls to you instead of the Shadowlands.
well, perhabs sylavans since she word since end of wotlk/begining Cata with the jailor- so domination magic?
But is a therorie which long ghosting since many were skeptical as they got kileld and joind without remorse threis killers happenly and to fight their former friends and comrads.
And in 2/3 Cases Sylvanas was Nearby ( Forsaken Base at the Border and in Andorhal, as she relieaf Koltira form Command and take personly over)
The original Valkyries where not enslaved tho.
They followed her willingly and even sacrificed themselfs when she dies to resurrect her.
The lantern in BFA was something she got from Hel and it was specifically to enslave the valkiries from Odin cause she wanted more since most of hers where dead at that point.
The fate of all the worlds isn’t enough is a conflict and tension?
I mean, sure we all know how it’s going to end but whatever, I prefer the Horde but I mainly want to play human because they’re basically the only race gear looks really good on, give me undead humans or whatever.
Did it before several times. One time spearheaded by a drunk sex pest out of game. Never worked, and the game has suffered each time.
If we have to spend our time being hippies to actually enjoy the game in all it’s faucets, pass the blunt and granola.
Want conflict with a side if skill? Fighting a fellow? Compelling story with a complicated faction warfare? Other games exist. Hell, fighting games exist
Indulge. Grow your palette. Its fine to enjoy that. Just keep us out of it.
The whole story is that the army lost vs the Emus. But then they did the intelligent thing and just put a bounty on them which got a lot more humans involved
… Then it wasn’t the war part that was engaging, was it?
