PLEASE HELP: Massive World Bug

Hello, EU Blizzard Forum Community.

I’m here to talk to you all about the massive and unhelped issue I’m experiencing with my main and only character.

I’ve had my rogue from level 20 to level 120 without using a single boost or any other kind of service on him previously. I completed each Kul Tiras zone and quest chapter and I successfully completed every war campaign quest up to current state. I also completed the latest Darkshore event and unlocked the Dark Iron Dwarves.

With 8.1 kicking in, I decided to switch my rogue to Horde so I could experience every questline, both zone and faction related (war campaign), including the new Saurfang quest.

So I requested a faction change, paying €30as you all know very well, and proceeded to enjoy my new faction and story.
After I was satisfied, I decided to go back Alliance because I was missing my void elf too much.

And this is where hell came to be.

I found my character with EVERY SINGLE QUEST uncompleted and visibile on the map, scattered everywhere. Quest chaining broke completely and each quest is now acceptable regardlessly of your position or any other current quest state. Phases collapse into eachothers, and hostile and friendly NPCs meet where there should have been a before and an after (for example in Drustvar, I can see Waycrest heir looking at a little village from afar waiting for you to accept the quests to conquer the little village and purge the Hexed soldiers from it, but then I see Waycrest herself already feeling home in the village in the middle of bewitched soldiers next to the same commander who’s ready to charge into battle).

And of course, plenty of Flight Masters are completely nowhere to be found and hence unusable.

The worse part is that I can’t even proceed and try to complete every quest on its own individually, because this is one example I just finished to deal with: I accepted a quest where I’m supposed to leave the Stormsong Monastery and fly Galeheart with Taelia, and guess what? Galehaert is just nowhere to be found. After literally days, I realized that for a moment when I get to the point where the gryphon is supposed to land, I can literally see it landing before it disappears into a phase that is clearly different from mine. So after trying and failing so many times and leaving and re-accepting the quest, today I finally managed to get the gryphon before it landed so I would be taken at the border of Stormsong Valley. There, I was supposed to descend with Taelia and talk to some guards, but guess what again? Taelia is not there with me and I can’t see the guards to interact with correctly. Meaning I can’t even turn in the quest.

Another episode is with the War Campaign quests (which also have been resetted and they are now individually acceptable from various NPCs everywhere on the world), where I took an Umbric quest and he asks me to take his void portal but then there’s literally no void portal for me to take so I just can’t even proceed and finish it.

I’m just stuck in this loop, this limbo, this very messed up disaster and it’s literally unplayable for me.

So of course, what did I do?
I opened a ticket.
A ticket I haven’t been answered until more than a week passed, and I’ve been told they couldn’t do anything for me and all I could do was to go to “Report a Bug” and explain the situation to the developers and wait for them to fix it possibly in a future. Which I couldn’t even do it correctly as there’s a cap on the words I can use to describe my problem.

So I answered once again to my ticket and I told them that this is unhandling for me and I wanted them to do something because I’m a paying customer, and they answered me again after 4 days telling me that they tried using my character and for them everything was doable, so I could try and complete the quests and see what happens.

So I first tried to delete my Cache, WTF and Interface folders and see if it was a local problems, and when I made sure it wasn’t I answered them back once more telling them that it’s unsettling and awful how the MMO which is the most played and famous in its genre in 2018 can’t even provide a fix to problems that services they sell (and they’re hella expensive if you ask me) cause.

I’m still waiting for a response and I’m utterly disappointed for I’ve been playing WoW for almost a decade and have always been loyal to Blizzard and their products, and I really am in love especially with Warcraft universe.

I literally don’t know what to do and I know my game is not going to be fixed at all and I’m just so frustrated. I wish I could reach for someone who had technical powers over the game so that it could set things back to how they were.

But either they just don’t want or can’t, and wether the reason it’s just unacceptable to me.

Been through the exactly same thing with the character transfering and faction changing and I’m currently experiencing all of this as well. Very annoying indeed.

Altough I’m not glad for our situation, I still am glad I’m not an isolated case.
Whatever happens, we should keep in touch and update eachothers just in case.

huh, sounds like a weird bug for sure. I started BFA as horde, went alliance for a while before returning to horde. All is as it should be, nothing upset on the scale like you.

It’s probably due to the fact that it’s about an allied race.
Either that, or I’m just really unlucky…

I actually went dark iron on ally side, from maghar orc. Then back to horde as goblin. No issues.

It may seen unhelpful but it is the best solution. When you send a report it logs extra data that can help Quality Assurance - the people who squish the bugs, not community manager or normal developers.

You just need to list what quest it was and a very brief description of it. If it happens on multiple quests then do a new report for each.

YOU get no feedback but it helps Blizzard more than a post like this.

After reading the whole post i must say that i really not want to by you.

Just reading this makes my head hurt, the 2 times i used a faction change were clean without any problems at all… I hope you get it sorted out soon!

I am not sure how blizzard codes new races do they just change the name or there is more to it. Ether way what i can suggest if you don’t get any response and this is last case thing you can do is race change to some other races , humans or nightelfs (non allied).

Phasing issue that is definitely on blizzard side.

Oh did you try to delete your toon and restore it again?

No, I didn’t… is that risky? I don’t want to possibly mess thigns up in case something goes wrong, never tried the new restoration tool.

And by the way yeah, Blizzard could race change for me and see if the thing fixes itself, but are they expecting me to pay even more than I already did? For real?

The character delete isn’t risky, seems to work as intended. Could be worth a try.

I did transfer a Dwarf Shaman to Mag’har Orc having already completed the Horde and Alliance campaigns. The world was in a weird state but sorted itself out once I picked my first questing zone and completed the opening quest. From then all flight points opened and the world was in a “post-quest” state (i.e. NPCs friendly and not in a gated phase).

Sounds like your character is stuck in a bad phase. You’re sitting in a break in space time. I hope you get it sorted. Maybe your story progress just needs resetting or something. Would suck having to re-do the Alliance story but it sounds like something has been corrupted during the transfers.

Stop this nonsense of forcing you to pay for stuff.

It’ll do nothing. Deleting your character has never actually deleted it it just marks it as unavailable. Whatever is wrong with the OP (seemingly) pertains to completed quests that unlock certain content.

What the OP could do is figure out what quests need to be completed and politely ask a GM to complete them with out this contrived nonsense of being forced to pay for stuff. If someone wrote a ticket like this to me I’d close it as trolling.

I quite can’t catch what it is that you’re meaning.
Do you think like I’m joking or just a thorn in the back of Blizzard customer service?

Actually this exact issue has happened for me and I faction changed from a dwarf (Not DI) to Troll (then I racechanged to UD as its this character).

I managed to get a few quests done and now im sitting on a quest log full with quests that cant be completed.

And I have had 3 (!!!) game masters checking it with only the last one getting remotely close to helping with the issue.

To note: This ONLY HAPPENS TO CHARACTERS WHO WERE FACTION CHANGED TWICE, ie from Horde to Alliance and then back to Alli. I have faction changed numerous times and only in 8.1 did my quest progression blow up.

Mind, my stint with Customer Support has been mindboggling. Here’s the ticket log for the sake of some comedy at the start of the year:

Since I faction changed today almost all of my faction and war story quests have reset.

However, almost all of them cant be completed. The storyline quests in each zone are bugged as Im in a phase where there is no NPC I can interact with. The war story quests are the same with chapters I cant complete due to the hand-in NPCs being phased out.

All of these quests Ive already completed once on this character prior to my move to the Horde. Id like to ask all these quests to be completed (and I will gladly forfeit their wards) or have my faction change reverted so I can play on Horde where I am not stuck at various stages of the war campaign and zone questlines.

Response:

Hi there Kruule,

I’m GM XXXX, I am here to look into your quest log after a faction change,

Sorry I didn’t get chance to talk with you online this morning, I hope you had a great week.

When you faction change this does have a major impact on your quests, as warned in the FAQ’s for the service. Basically every quest chain and zone which is faction specific completely resets. To unlock everything again you need to start for the beginning and redo the starting and zone quests. This is sadly a WAI situation.

The problem is that even if we undo the faction change and move you back to Horde, the horde quests have already reset as well, you will need to redo these again.

Sorry for the problems this causes you. have a most excellent week.

My response:

Hi there,

Thanks for the response!

I forgot to add that this issue persis on Kruule (now Zuldarak, as I faction change) where the same problem arose as you mentioned.

However, I have done faction changes in the past and in those cases the number of quests that reset were marginal: It was only the dungeon quests at the end of each zone and I had to readd my outposts on the enemy faction’s continent.

Now I have an entire sleugh of quests and questchains, including the war campaign. During my last several faction changed playthroughs I had completed every storyline in each zone as well as additional quests that arent part of the main questchains.

This issue was not present up until now and I would like it resolved and not rely on what you mentioned regarding the issues with faction changing, mostly because:

A. This issue was NOT present when I faction changed previously. Regardless of what the FAQ stated I didnt have to redo complete zones or the war campaign when I had already done those particular quests in 8.0 or even 8.1.
B. The reset affects the main storyline, which means I CANNOT finish the campaign of the expansion and continue the story whenever it gets new chapters added
C. For all intents and purposes phasing issues should NOT break the game to this extent as to make dozens of quests impossible to complete.

At the moment I have an abundant number of quests in my questlog, ready for turning in, only to have the NPC not present or uninteractable at their location, as well as numerous quests I cant start (visible on the map as yellow exclamation marks) because the questgiver is phased. Kindly look into this and please dont resolve the ticket until I can get my quest log (and the expansion’s quest and story content) as clear as it was in my prior faction changed times.

And here’s where this issue was addressed in the most lackluster way possible:

Greetings XXXXXX,

I’m XXXXX from the Greater Azerothian Material Entities for the Mythical And Sentient Tranquility and Equality of all Reality department, otherwise known as G.A.M.E.M.A.S.T.E.R.s.

I can understand that you are frustrating, that you need to do the quest lines again. However the answer my colleague has given is correct. With the release of Battle for Azeroth the impact on Faction Changes is much more servere and as we told you already the quests have been reset. This is not a bug where we can help. This is a Working as Intended Scenario.

As i can see you have already started the War Campaign on Horde side. Here is a link, where in the comments you can see the Questline for your current quest “Azerite denied”: https://www.wowhead.com/quest=53852/azerite-denied

You can see the War Campaign Quests on the Map as Orange Quest Markers.

Unfortunately this is all we can help you with. you will need to continue the War Campaign and Quests on your own.

I will keep my fingers crossed and wish you a relaxing weekend and have a happy new year.

Best Regards

GM Joke of the Week: How many Dwarfs do you need to screw in a Light Bulb?

100! One who holds the Light Bulb and 99 which drink until the room spins

Naturally my response to that was less than polite because at this stage it became clear these people don’t read the web tickets at all.

Hi xxxxxx!

Thank you for the reply, however I aam not entirely thankful for the fact you didnt read the contents of my ticket. Parroting the same thing your colleague stated and disregarding the state of my character and what I had written isnt exactly something I expected.

“I can understand that you are frustrating, that you need to do the quest lines again.” I’m glad for your understanding, but as I stated:

However, I have done faction changes in the past and in those cases the number of quests that reset were marginal: It was only the dungeon quests at the end of each zone and I had to readd my outposts on the enemy faction’s continent.

Now I have an entire sleugh of quests and questchains, including the war campaign. During my last several faction changed playthroughs I had completed every storyline in each zone as well as additional quests that arent part of the main questchains.

“However the answer my colleague has given is correct. With the release of Battle for Azeroth the impact on Faction Changes is much more servere and as we told you already the quests have been reset.”

This is also factually wrong as I stated:

“However, I have done faction changes in the past and in those cases the number of quests that reset were marginal: It was only the dungeon quests at the end of each zone and I had to readd my outposts on the enemy faction’s continent.”

What you said WAS NOT PRESENT AT THE LAUNCH OF THE EXPANSION. This issue occured after 8.1 started!

“This is not a bug where we can help. This is a Working as Intended Scenario.”

Not only is this ill informed, its also clear you didn’t even check my character.

I have a full questlog now (barring 2 slots for the weekly or call to arms quests) with quests that are ready to be turning in BUT THEY CAN’T BE FINISHED BECAUSE I FACTION CHANGED. How can you willingly state that this is a working as intended scenario when this wasn’t a scenario up until now AND NONE OF THEM CAN BE COMPLETED?

“As i can see you have already started the War Campaign on Horde side. Here is a link, where in the comments you can see the Questline for your current quest “Azerite denied”: https://www.wowhead.com/quest=53852/azerite-denied

Feel free to take control of my character and head to the questline’s location. I will be interested in seeing you complete it when Rexxar is phased out.

Other than that I have 2 other War Campaign quests active from other stages which also can’t be completed BECAUSE I HAVE DONE THEM ALREADY AND THEY ARE PHASED!

“You can see the War Campaign Quests on the Map as Orange Quest Markers.”

As I also said:
At the moment I have an abundant number of quests in my questlog, ready for turning in, only to have the NPC not present or uninteractable at their location, as well as numerous quests I cant start (visible on the map as yellow exclamation marks) because the questgiver is phased.

“Unfortunately this is all we can help you with. you will need to continue the War Campaign and Quests on your own.”

I would love to continue them IF THEY COULD BE CONTINUED. READ THE TICKET PLEASE! INVESTIGATE! MY CHARACTER (Named Hierarch) IS AVAILABLE to your heart’s content to verify my claims.

Here’s a link for the sake of showing I’m not the only one who has this problem:
https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/a8vz51/allied_race_faction_change_in_81/

If you want I can upload an onslaught of screenshots too of the different questing areas and how the NPCs related to the quests aren’t there or cant be interacted with. As one user stated: “Had something similar. Reported the bug and they fixed it asap.” If this was true, I am hoping for the same treatment, not for a wish-wash, uninformed statement based on false evidence.

Best regards,

XXXXXX

After New Years I actually got a gamemaster who at least managed to address issue amongst the 30 I have at the moment:

Greetings XXXXX,

I’m Gamemaster XXXXX and would like to thank you for contacting us.

I just checked your issue thoroughly once more and hope, you had a nice start into the new, despite the answers of my colleagues. I would like apologise, that you were not happy with those.

During the investigation I could see, that you indeed were phased out from the wat campaign of 8.0 and due to that I now completed this part of the campaign for you.

The campaign continues in 8.1 with “Our War Continues” and I placed you right in front of Sylvanas, so you can start this.

I hope, this answer helps you and wish you a lot of fun.

After which I responded, being very thankful, but ultimately still in need of assistance because I have the other 30+ quests which cant even be completed.

Hi XXXXXXX,

First of all, happy new year and thank you very much with completing some of the War Campaign quests that couldnt be completed!

However, the issue persists. As I mentioned, my questlog right now is full with quests that cant be completed because of phasing issues. All the ones I have end in an area where the questgiver isnt available or cant be interacted with.

Additionally, It Belongs in My Mech! is the next quest I have and its also not completable as Im in a phase where the quest objective (Azerite Mucks) arent there. These questchains remain incomplete until I get a helping hand with either auto-completing them (Ive done them before on this Warlock as a Horde char, FCed to Alliance, then they reset after I faction changed back to Horde) or to have a fix for the phasing issues.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

TL;DR: So a fair warning! If you decide to faction change, do your best not to regret it! Because if you want to switch back on the same character oh boy, are you in for a wild ride of incompetency!

Just be persistent because they can complete the quests for you. I faction changed from alliance and couldn’t continue the talador questline because the NPC was phased so they put me one quest ahead. The issue wasn’t solved, they just circumvented it.

On the other hand, it was impossible for my void elf to complete the Vash’ijr questline because of the NPC in the caves who wasn’t there. They couldn’t skip it for me then, I had to leave the zone completely. I’m betting this bug is probably also still there.

An update

Ive had a 4th GM look into this and was able to complete the war campaign quests. However, the rest (which is 20+ quests in my log and god knows how many on Zandalar / KT) remain untouched as individually completing them can break the character beyond repair. Hence the issue was escalated and another team will assist with setting my character straight.

An awesome and frankly great Gamemaster can make my day honestly. They advised that in this case a bug report would be the best option while my ticket is being handled. Id suggest others do the same who face this problem in order to have it addressed before more folk, who swap between factions regularly with Faction Changes, run into this painful experience.
