Open just one TBC Era server. The reason why Blizzard is forcing everyone on WoTLK is because they are afraid of spreading the player base too thin and killing the game. Opening separate PvE and PvP servers for TBC would spread the player base even thinner.
PvE players will just have to get used to the chance that you get ganked occasionally on your way to dungeon / raid / whatever. One layered server should be enough for the TBC era.

2 Realms, one of each is a minimum requirement - or make a PvE server only; then the PvP players can just go in BGs or arrange battles in the open world. No reason to exclude more than half of those wanting to stay - I suppose TBCC Era pop won’t be much different from Classic Era where PvE actually is the majority.

Not keeping atleast 2-3 realms for people who would like continue to play on TBC is absurd… the whole idea of this entire classic thing was to allow people to re-experience those old nostalgic games. Privat servers had a constant population either on vanilla or TBC or WOTLK. They were working because they fulfilled the needs of a group of people. I simply don’t understand, why a company, with an insane amount of resource, can’t keep up running servers for each xpac and give people an opportunity to progress furthert on from one xpac to another and even create a clone of their char, if they desire so… Move all the TBC realms to WOTLK, that’s all fine, but for the love of God, make 2 damn TBC realms aswell, where people can make a copy of their characters, if they want to continue to play with those aswell. AND PLEASE! DON’T even say that “iT wIlL dIvIdE tHe PlAyErBaSe?” WHAT? those couple hundred of people (at best), that decied to stick to TBC? Classic ERA takes nothing away from TBC, and if it does, then good. The whole point of classic was, that people can return to the old games and play whichever they want. If you force people to move to WOTLK now, then classic will simply turn to a retail style game, where people are forced to move from on xpac to the next… The whole idea of classic will be thrown out the window. And don’t tell me, that they might start a season of mastery… That’s is not the same by far… People invested time and effort to level up their characters. I don’t want to do all my progress from zero, just because Blizzard has no idea what the idea of classic should be about.

If cata is the next step, i wont play classic. I have no fond memories of that expansion.
With that said: I still wouldn’t play “TBC Era” servers. i’d just stop playing WoW.

I’m not against them existing however given the demand for them, it’s almost pointless having them exist at all from Blizzard perspective.
Maybe, but how many subs do you think will make up for the costs of running a server or even two? I go for keeping as many players as possible happy instead of leaving.

Blizzard have the numbers. They can easily estimate what it will make them in terms of people paying for it. If they even suspect for a second that it would make them profit, they would do it.
The fact they aren’t doing it is about as close as we’ll get to them releasing a statement saying classic era was a failed idea/cash-grab and isn’t worth continuing.
Maybe I’m a tin-foil hat-wearer here. But I think they’re suffering from “You think you do”-itis, and the thought that more ppl could want to play Era servers than SoM is hard for them to swallow. They STILL want to decide how and what we play.
EDIT: But as we do not have any numbers for either SoM or Classic, this is a discussion without any real conclusion. We only have the SoM numbers from Ironforge, and they’re rather depressing. Below 6000 worldwide, and half of thse in EU. I have no idea of the corresponding numbers for Classic Era. Do you?

Then why no faction / race change in TBCC? They do not always know what would give them more money, neither short term nor long term.

Yes, forcing players to play a specific xpac is pretty sure a good idea, especially in classic, where the whole idea is, to not force players to play something that they don’t want. Everyone will be more than happy to pay for such service… not just simply not play the game anymore, purely out of rage… People as narrow minded as you, should never give opinions on such issues (or any). Maybe, it’s not worth it for them right now, but it will in time. When I continued to level my hunter on ERA, there were approx. 5 players online at max. Took around 1-2 months and there was a decent playerbase. That was around february. Now there are more and more players returning, with constant raids and battlegrounds. It’s an option that should not be taken away and they shouldn’t rush, to make a decision, that they will not be able to undo, if it turns out that they were wrong…
