The horde was starting to lose everything they had achieved in the Cataclysm itself. The only real reason they were able to destroy Theramore was because they stole the Focusing Iris. Which they then lost. Jaina could have destroyed the entire horde when she took the focus iris from the horde, but thank the plot that Thrall and Kalec managed to talk some sense into her.
The horde has NEVER had the upper hand against the alliance, in any war.
Theramore was only able to defend itself due to Baine being a snitch and giving Jaina time to gather additional forces from neutral parties like the Shaâtar and Kirin Tor. As you see betrayal is the main reason why the Horde canât win their battles. Because our own leaders always make sure their human buddies wonât be harmed in any meaningful way.

Blizzard hates the Horde and loves the Alliance. Bfa made that clear. Dragonflight is the same. Any new Horde NPC we meet instantly gets killed.

Tyrande and Malfurion and alive but like the 70% of nelf race perished during BFA events.
I would almost prefer the death of some leader than that.
Leaders drivce the story. Without lore NPCs we would have nobody to root for. Populations donât matter for the story. What matters is standing at the end of a raid fight with someone and getting quests from them.
