Post your Bad Luck stories

I need either some motivation or some people to relate to, since I’ve been having the worst luck with gear drops, so please share your own stories!

I’ll share mine too: been after the DM tribute staff so naturally I made a lot of runs. Last week I was home two days so I was determined to grind it out. 12 runs in a row. Nothing

So I took a break to go after the UBRS caster trinket. 6 runs in a row where nobody needed it but me, didn’t drop. The one run I had with someone that also needed it the damn thing dropped, and I lost the roll.

Do tell me yours!

(Before someone posts: “gO bAcK tO rEtaIl”: this isn’t meant as a complain thread but rather a way to vent in a fun way. Ofc I’ll keep trying for those items)

Have you ever rolled an alt? This one I’m posting on is not my main. Of course everything drops for him. Weapons, a blue ring … on my main? Forget it, he’s still in some white/greys.
I always said then name did it. And maybe I jinxed my main by naming him the same as my equally unlucky Retail main. For him NOTHING drops easily. Headless Horseman’s Mount? Npe not a chance. I’ve fougth him every year (but not this one) since he was implemented.
Holding my thumbs for better luck with the RNG for you and me. :four_leaf_clover: :racehorse:

I think I’ve been in general pretty lucky with drops. Got 4/5 Cadaverous set in two Scholo runs, Maraudon ring on first try…

Perhaps my worst have been running a few dozen UBRS to get Truestrike Shoulders (only one drop and I didn’t get it) until just a couple of days ago (second drop, only me rolling), and my frustration to get decent boots of any kind - which I also solved. I’m still hoping for Rend’s main hand sword but I suspect it won’t happen any time soon.

My advice would be to try to think positive, not in terms of having hope your favourite item will eventually drop but on avoiding intensive farming. Jed in UBRS is making a lot of people miserable, and although the feeling of obtaining a rare item is very rewarding, statistics tell us there’s nothing preventing it from becoming a wild goose chase.

Just because something’s “best in slot” it doesn’t mean you must have it. The difference between first and second or third is usually very small. Even having a few weak slots can be beaten by enchanting those items you don’t want to enchant because you’re sure you’re totally replacing them soon even though it never happens. In my case I should probably just watch the AH for Sword of Zeal.

So I’d recommend to just keep in mind where your upgrades are and of course try to run those dungeons, but doing them sparsely enough so it remains an enjoyable experience.

Did 10+ ubrs runs for tooth of gnarr (mp5 neck).

it finally dropped. the other healer didnt need it but a warlock pressed need and won it ofc.

50+ UBRS runs for the MH sword. Made a guild group of casters, so no one needed it. Last spot I took pitty on a 58 war in full greens, cos he’s never done a single dungeon (moaning he never gets invited anywhere). You can guess the outcome of the story.

i mean, you could have picked anything but that warrior if you did want to sort of reserve it. it was doomed to happen.

But, good on you for not being a guy that reserves items. Did you eventually get the mh?

Was a guildy and honestly gave up expecting it to drop lol, literally the first and only time I’ve seen it drop! Gave up trying to get it, literally gain 40ap which is nothing now. Sat at over 1500 AP fully buffed.

It’s like 3% more damage and under a 4% drop chance. I’ll wait for a raid one to drop haha. Saying that though we’ve cleared MC and ony for 5 weeks now. We’ve had 1 sword drop, which 10 people need, so not holding my breath!

Melee weaps are mega rough to get in classic. 4% drop chance for a one hand sword/ bone reaver/spinal reaver. So thats one of the 3 dropping every 2 months on average. Assumimg you have 5 war/rogue dps. Thats an average of getting one every year and a half haha!

yeah we have had bad luck on weapons as well. pretty much no weapon.

But we have had 2 eye of sulfuras. rng is what it is.

Ah, at least it was for a good cause

I was a dummy the other day in a slightly difference situation: rogue dungeon set chest dropped at Drakki and I overheard excited gasps on voice chat and the other rogue in the group mentioning something about a “second drop” and expecting me to roll, while I was distracted as someone was texting me. Since I had Cadaverous, which by itself is better, and he wanted it, I passed.

Turned out he already had one, it wasn’t the “second drop he had seen” but he said he was collecting the second one for a hypothetical T0.5 upgrade, and actually hadn’t rolled yet when I passed, waiting for me in case I wanted it.

If I got the head I would have had 6/8, making it worth it for the set bonus, but instead for not paying attention I have no idea when I’ll get that chance again

Similar kind of thing happened with me. Truestrike shoulders in UBRS dropped back when I was tanking, I felt bad rolling so passed. Turned out no one needed it and a caster ended up with it.

Must of spent 20+ hours trying to get it after i went back to dps haha. Literally me being nice and not checking rolls, caused me a massive headache to get it! Never been in a group that’s not had 4+ people rolling for it since.

Hand of justice
That damned trinket that never drops.
I did over 50 runs, hoping to get it. I made groups full of casters or people who dont need it. It didnt drop. 2 days ago I joined a random group with a bunch of low levels, 3 warriors(with me). After like 4 runs we got burned out and decided to do 1 last one, and the trinket dropped. I lost the roll to a 57 warrior who joined for the first time to get HoJ. He was so happy, but I was so sad. From that night I swore I would never join a group with people who also nedd that thing. Not because Im greedy, i dont like people who “res” items but i got so burned out, I was like I need to get this asap. I dont want to lose another item to a guy who does this for the first time. It is not fair. Yesterday I tried to do a run inviting only casters, or people who dont need it. We did some runs but didnt drop. After a while, I joined another group but this time there was a warrior who only wanted SGC cause he already had hoj. So i agreed, even if I also needed the chest, but I was desperate . After like 10 runs, it finally dropped. I was the only one rolling for it so I won obviously. Sadly, the chest never dropped for him, but atleast my hard grind for this trinket came to an end.

But what if somebody did a hundred runs without you, then joined your group and finally got item? Imagine yourself having the same situation

No Beaststalker leggings.
From 1.4 until the tailend of TBC.
Did Strat Baron countless times throughout vanilla (easily more than 100), and solo’d it a bunch of times in TBC just out of principle.
Didn’t.
Drop.
Once.

One from back in 2005 or so, had a 60 priest with all the devout set bar the head piece. Ran Scholo in excess of 60 times before it dropped twice In quick succession. First time lost it on random roll to another priest, fair enough. Second time, I was the only priest. Weary celebrations from fellow guildies as it dropped, we’d never have to go back again, but…

Gandling had teleported me just before dying and I was out of sight when the body was looted and it wouldn’t then let me interact with the body to loot the crown. Gm ticket opened, hung around in the instance staring at the corpse for 30 minutes to be told “sorry, can’t help you, teleport mechanic and loot functions working as intended”.

Aaaaaaarghhhh!!!

Haven’t been back there since. I may be mentally scarred.

Haven’t seen the warlock T2 helm drop yet, been doing Onyxia a alot but it seems hopeless.

Felheart Slippers curse too. I don’t even have them on retail, let alone in Classic. I’ve been playing for 14 years.

In retail it took me 462 kills to get blazing drake so nothing in classic really comes close. 40 something runs for bonecreeper stylus has been the unluckiest so far though.

About the staff, my Warlock friend had awful luck, just like yourself, and ended up paying someone that had finished the run to get in and grab the staff. That might be a way to proceed with the Staff for you.

Now talking about bad luck, when i farmed the Crusader enchant recipe i ended up killing 1600+ Spellbinders before it dropped.
Now that is bad luck indeed, but here’s the real annoying part.
I came back a few days later to see if i could get it to drop for some gold.
I killed, yes you guessed it less than 100 (58 to be exact) and it dropped again.
Man oh man was i pissed.

I’m 4k / 21k rep with AD just from running Stratholme UD. That’s how long it took me to get cloak of the black baron and bone slicing hatchet.

How about some retail bad luck? You know that crappy headless horseman mount that everybody and their grandmas has? That all of my friends got a decade ago?

Here I am, still trying to get it. 12th year in a row.

You should have told him to equip a shield, then people would practically beg to have him in their party. I have absolutely no respect for fury warriors that cry about not getting group invites. Why do you expect to be invited instead of one of the other 50,000 fury warriors?

Strangely, once you actually have the item, it starts dropping all the time.

lets see;

  • 172 runs for Blade of Eternal darkness ( was grinding for gold, I know it’s not that good :stuck_out_tongue: )
  • Rune Strat (live+dead), BRD, LRBS, Scholo countless times and I’ve gotten a grand totalt of 2 of my pre-raid BIS \o/

As a side note; if your ever having bad luck gearing your resto druid or shaman, join me on any run and watch it rain healing leather and mail.
