Potential Scammer?

Greetings Argent Dawn!

I’m moving from MG/WRA to AD to get into RP with a couple of friends here. I was scanning the forums (Moon Guard & Argent Dawn) looking for someone in assisting me in writing up a TRP profile since I’ve never done it.

I noticed the following thread on the NA forums saying she’s recently moved to US servers from the EU.
[A-RP] Writing Commissions - A struggling Writer - Moon Guard - World of Warcraft Forums (blizzard.com)

Then I came across this posting warning of a scammer.
Do not give this person your money. Don’t spend a penny - Argent Dawn - World of Warcraft Forums (blizzard.com)

Is it the same person? I can’t confirm, but it sure sounds fishy to me. I just figured I’d toss a warning out since I do know some have US and EU accounts.

I vaguely remember a person coming into the AD thread you linked and bringing up some known scamer from MG, but I think they concluded that that wasn’t the same person. Don’t really have time to re-read the thread to verify right now. Either way, it’s best to err on the side of caution.

I would also advice to write the Trp yourself! Not only is it a good practice, but also it lets you tailor it to how you want it to be. You honestly don’t need a very flowery description full of purple prose, as some seem to think to be necessary. Most people I talked to (as well as the opinions I’ve read) seem to prefer a more concise and to the point description. :slightly_smiling_face:

If they ask for IRL cash and their paypal is L**e somethingorther, then it’s the same person. Not sure otherwise.

That’s my plan! I’ll get it figured out.

Thanks for guidance!

Regardless of whether they’re the same rascal from our side of the Atlantic, I do think it’s a little bit suspect that they haven’t provided any examples of their work in the thread – that tends to be a big red flag in my mind.

The writing style seems to remind me of our scam artist, but I can’t confirm/deny that because all their threads here got deleted/scrubbed.

If you are really struggling i’d offer my help for free, but that may mean that it’s not going to be super professional.
However i did it for a few friends and they were happy with it.

Welcome to Argent Dawn!

He is the SUS IMPOSTER!

Yes please, I just simply do not bother reading if lets say the first glances are 300 page novels.

Genuinely the thing I hate most is when someones glances are literally paragraphs of pointless stuff.

The point of a glance is something you can see and read in a couple seconds because it might be an important detail in a conversation and would shape how you react to a character. It’s not a “glance” if it’s more of a “staring intently at a paragraph of text for 4 minutes just to find out whether or not you have a scar on your cheek”.

Save the more detailed stuff for the actual about section of the profile, even then don’t go overboard and write a whole novel there either.

If a glance is more than 2-3 sentences, I am 100% not going to even try to read it. Glances just aren’t the appropriate place for large segments of text, you’re right.

Just dont give random people gold in the first place they can go make some themself…

Also the first one says they have wrote over 500 TRP’s idk about u but that sounds pretty sus to me

All you need in TRP profile is brief glances if there´s anything special about the character that you can´t represent in the game (for example she always wears a necklace or her hair looks white at the roots, showing she probably dyes it, that sort of stuff).
Especially as a new RPer, it´s better to not have complicated TRP and shape the character as you RP them.

Puts my eyeball onto your skin to inspect the 10000 word essay on it in your first glance.

I’m always more taken by a a character that has a fairly bare bones RP profile but says interesting things than a character with a super fleshed out RP profile who says and does nothing.

I’m surprised you can even write, with those webbed fingers

This is so sad. Can we give a :100: likes to that post?

Honestly it makes using a keyboard really awkward, however I found a workaround; after mangling the keys for a while I just copy and paste what i’m typing into a polish to english translater. And hey-presto! I’m legible.
