I updated the WoW client, started the game and it keeps just closing without any error message! I am in Valdrakken, I try to chat and the software closes with no information. Or just walking around. It is the worst update in years.
Use bootcamp and the Windows client and try again
In fairness 5 minutes content is about all it provides.
Unless you’re into fixing your action bars and talents. Then you can double it.
Running it fine on Mac OS 18 beta 4 on an M1 MBP w/ 16 GB.
Except that the changes make me not want to play it, with the camera and disappearing spells from action bars and overall squishiness of remix leveling characters… ![]()
It was working fine under MacOS with the ARM processor. Since updating it just closes the software instantly every some minutes (or always when I start fighting). Do they do any kind of QA under MacOS?
They used to be able to provide some form of MacOS support, but due to their massively reduced number of support agents, I have a feeling they’ll probably just have your run through the support articles.
No harm in trying to get in touch with them, though. Just don’t expect an instant reply to your situation.
My best advice is to use YouTube & Google to try and see if you can find others who may have experienced similar problems and how/if they were able to get if fixed.
Thank you Canju. My experience trying to use the in-game support is that I never get an answer. I remember the times when the game master helped me when I felt in a hole and could not move. I was so impressed that I kept playing till now. If it was like today I wouldn’t be here.
I had hope that the hotfix from today would change something, but it is exactly the same. It is not possible to play. If I start a fight it closes the game directly, if I do something else like chatting or just moving around can take up to 3 minutes, but then it closes. I use a M1 MacBook Pro with 16 GB.
I know that mac’s don’t have the same amount of issues that the PCs experience.
So the possible issues should be extremely small. Have you tried to just completely deleted WoW and reinstall it, to see if that could help? Well of course before that, try running a Scan & Repair via the battle.net launcher?
Also try this, as it seems to have been a similar issues back in 2022.
"The cause was found, it’s playing cut scenes on older CPUs that’s causing it. They are aware of it and have a post going up soon, in mean time I was provided with this work around
open config in wtf folder and add or modify this line
SET playIntroMovie “10”
basically the cinematics are playing with missing cpu instruction set. This was missed in beta/ptr because the cinematic wasn’t enabled on the beta/ptr. It’s pretty standard for blizzard to only package the cinematic with release build. So again, edit config to basically say “I’ve seen the cinematic already don’t play it” and you’ll get in game. that said, avoid other cinematics while in game until a new build goes out that fixes issue"
Thank you for any hint, but in my case there is no cinematic running. I am just fighting (then it happens directly) or walking around or chatting (then it will eventually happen after some few minutes). Anyways there is no way I can play for more than some minutes
Disable all addons and see if that works
If you can play without addons, it’s an addon issue. Wait for updates, or install Bugsack to see which addons are bugging out
If that doesn’t work > move your WTF folder somewhere else (move it back later)
If that doesn’t work > scan & repair
If that doesn’t work > reinstall the game
MacOS… ![]()
Says the Linux gamer: antiX Debian non-systemd variant. ![]()
And it’s not tied to a specific key? E.g. the ^ key on non-English keyboard settings?
I agree - this update is absolutely dire on Mac OS. The camera/scrolling change is wayyyyy too sensitive (I really don’t get quite it was even changed?!). It also runs the computer hot within a couple of minutes of opening, which was very much not the case before the pre-patch dropped.
From smooth to hot mess with one update. Not impressed…
(Edit: Observations are with addons disabled.)
I just realized after uninstalling everything, installing again and without addons that the “´” key in the german keyboard makes the game crash!!! I searched and saw that a french user created a similar bug with other key four days ago. How long do you need to fix something like this? It was working with no issues and the prepatch killed the game.
Got a MacBook Pro m3 max with 36gb and it runs fine
Disable addons. Update OSX. Reinstall WoW. Check system logs - can’t remember where OSX has those. Run “fix client” tool from Blizz. Support is useless, don’t even bother.
Man that’s crazy. Sorry you had to go through such hassle to find out it’s due to pressing a key ![]()
It is not really a helpful comment. I’ve got MacBook Pro as my main machine and it was working perfectly. I will not buy a Windows PC just because Blizzard does not get the things right. They officially support MacOS.
Yes, and I am not the only one. It seems they don’t test with any other language / keyboard then US-english. I found two keys that kill the software in a german keyboard (crazy!): “^” and “´”. I am a software developer myself and I don’t understand how pressing a key could kill a program. But worst than that is that it takes so long to fix it.
MacOS is officially supported, so it should work
