Proposed feature - Disconnect reaction

Proposed feature: Let players set 1 ability which will be used (if available), when a dc is detected.

For example:
Rogue player might set Vanish as their “DC reaction”.
If the server detects a dc from the player it tries to use the set “DC reaction”. If it is on cooldown, too bad.
Something like a priests shield might buy the seconds necessary to log back in.
Later players will use petri as their action of choice.

Not a bad idea at all.
Blizz originally promised some kind of DC protection, this could be it.

As many players demonstrated, there is some sort of protection in effect with a shorter disconnect time. I can see the reason why you’d want an autopot, spell or other but as the OP posted:

Everyone’d put in a petri essentially.

vanish is by no means a 100% escape mechanism.

No, but much, much better than nothing

Exactly, if I have a petri in my bags, I would obviously want to use it in case of a disconnect.
And if I don’t have access to petri yet, I would want to use my Feign Death or Ice Block.
Even if it just buys me a few seconds, it’s all better than dying.

Not a bad idea.

Just to be clear, there would have to be 2 abilities petri+hearthstone right ?

And ppl would have to stop Xing down the wow-window, i belive doing that looks like a DC ?

how about if you disconnect your character instantly disappears from the world

Would be the very best - but open to abuse.

That would easily be exploited by simply doing an alt+f4 to trick the game into thinking you’re disconnected, or just simply plug the cable in and out. People would use this as an escape from bad situations.

OP suggested that perhaps there could be an ability or item of choice to pick that a character automatically uses upon a disconnect, and it’s a cool idea, but rogues would be even safer than they already are if they would automatically vanish upon a DC.

So long as one remains conscious of positioning, then rogues would never die to a DC. In fact, I am still always surprised to see rogues die to normal encounters after having reached level 22

everyone level 50+ would bind petri which is basicaly the same but that would be ok? Whats worse someone pulling out his cable and survive a bad situation or having a genuine dc and dieing? It’s not like someone ‘exploiting’ that functionality would have any impact on you unless they use it to grief you in which case you could just pull the plug as well

usually enough time for your char to phase out i think

surely blizz can track the difference

pretty sure there are laws in Europe preventing companies from tracking what you do on your PC.

Yeah but not seeing the difference between dc and closing surely. Also america isnt eu

I don’t think the server you connect to can tell the difference between an alt-f4, an unplug of your cable or an interruption of service somewhere along the trace. Not sure what you mean with the america comment, this is the eu forum

Blizz is American

local laws apply though, not us ones. Blizz eu is in Paris too, pretty sure that is their legal entity in europe.

True law doesnt mean poop in america anymore anyway

Well google had to pay a 2.4 billion € fine for breaking a, EU law so I’m sure us companies are pretty carefull nowadays. Not that bliz would get fined anywhere near that amount but it does show eu enforces its laws

If EU DPL were anywhere as linient asw the USA, where teh consumer is basically made of glass, then warden would be MUCH more invasive than it is, incl. Ram+HDD scans to detect known hacks and botting software.

The mere fact that it isn´t shows that Blizzard, unlike some of it´s customers, fully understands how just badly ignoring them can screw themselves over. I´m sure they´re just as cognizant of the danger of losing ~half of their consumers by being banned from selling their products in the EU as we are.

China has actually been trying to force the reverse, they literally try to get government backdoors in everything… but even they begrudgingly accept that they aren´t nearly as attractive a market if you have to lose everyone else to cater to it.
