PSA: TRP3 is affected by a bug on the PTR, but it's getting fixed

That’s … exactly what I was saying - But keep it down with the doom/fearposting. No need to go crazy with this like “1 week until trp is dead” in discord or /2 chatter. It isn’t helping anyone.

Would sitting down and shutting up be helping anyone any more than making sure Blizzard is aware and acknowledges that this is going to severely impact the RP community if it goes to Live?

Where did I say that you should be quiet?

Read my first post again. Then come back.

I think Viral is moreso in the greyzone instead of black versus white. To put it this way.

Not saying anything about this implementation is as bad as proclaiming RP is dead etc some posts made out of understandable panic.

A panic is never good for anything

As someone who gets confused when people change Tumblr/Twitter/whatever Profile Picture, or even forum avatar here, this sounds like hell haha :smiling_face_with_tear:

nobody has been earnestly saying that it’s going to be killing RP. If it takes a little longer to load a TRP I’ll still log on and write stories.

I’ve been really specific in my posts saying this.

So it’s really ironic that they get pedantic and do this

Cant talk on the behest of another, but I feel that was more of a generalisationed comment than anything specific targeted to X or Y person.
So perhaps this forum has not seen this, I’ve at least came across one mention in a Discord Server where the bandwagon was jumped of it being the death stab to the WoW RP Community.

Excuse me? What kind of mindset this is? WoW always has been -the- most RP friendly MMO there is. The only one that I can think of is abit better is FF14 and honestly the mods there are 90% “Giant booba” mods and 10% actually good mods. SWTOR for example litterly has nothing. Coming from that scene, where I roleplayed for about 5+ years I know how bad that is, but guess what. I can still survive without TRP. It might be convinient yes, but come on. Addons will update. Even if the API changes, it doesnt stop the addon makers from making new addons / updating the old one. Everyone here is so doom and gloomy. Have some faith. Blizzard seems to actually listen to players again, and here you all are complainin that Blizzard wont listen to us. Let us ask this question, when DF released, why did they release the tent toys? Or the weather change toy? Only those two in my opinion are blatently aimed towards the RP comunity.

Rant off.

Whilst I do comment there have been signs in the direction, let us not fully pretend after all the antics their bank of good faith is full again…
Blizzard would for example get a major W coming to react to this, but for that to happen there has to be something to react too of course

I disagree. I’d rather say the RP community in WoW is alot more industrious and go getting at implementing stuff for themselves compared to many other games.

But Blizzard themselves has very little care for roleplay and its very much an after thought. And as mentioned, the general WoW playerbase is outright hostile towards roleplaying as a hobby, with frequent mockery and outright harassment by big streamers and content creators.

That said though, alot of other MMO’s have it worse.

I think you misread Lintian’s comment! She wrote that WoW is the least RP friendly MMO… Only if you ignore all the other MMOs that are way less RP friendly.

This change will have a different impact depending on the sort of RP that you’re engaging in.

Guild-based RP or location-based RP with a small and stable community? You effectively won’t experience any changes, it just might take a couple of minutes more than usual to register when someone updates their TRP profile.

Campaign RP or public event RP that is attended by a large group of people? You’ll probably have to wait up to an hour for all of the profiles to load, which might be a pain for a while and a minor inconvenience, but everything should be sorted out after that initial hurdle.

Casual hub RP where people are just passing through a city, looking for RP with approachable strangers? This will be hurt the most, since the most crowded areas of Stormwind City can have dozens of people around at the same time and in a lot of cases, this will lead to people coming and going before you’ve even been able to load their profile and gauge whether you’re interested in roleplaying with them.

On the other hand, this will also significantly hurt the ERP population of Goldshire.

These are the realistic consequences of this change, I think. It won’t kill RP, but it’ll hinder the process of roleplaying for everyone and some people will be hit harder than others.

Definition of a necessary evil

I’ve always felt that an easy fix for this would be to disable addon comms for Trial accounts. They can’t use any other chats, so why are they allowed to do it with addons?

Indeed, but do people genuenly think they will react to an outrage of oneminded people? People need to present valid arguemnts and not just cry out with “OW THIS IS GOING TO RUIN THIS, OH THIS GAME IS BETTER NOW”. Honestly, look at helldiver devs. It feels like mot people on wow would just fall over and cry if they would tell them “git gud”… I honestly just dont understand people anymore.

I think it’s almost a Pavlovian response at this point. We feel like if we don’t make it out to be the end of the world, Blizzard certainly wont take it seriously. Since they only take it seriously sometimes when we DO scream and cry and wee and poo ourselves.

It is indeed a reap what is sowed type of situation.
As much as it doesn’t apply for all, the human mind is biologically keen to link things together and create associations without it taking years. (RIP humanoid survival then)
It’s hard to break that pattern… Victim to our own beings

The association of distrust in Blizzard is a sad occasion, but at least from my perspective and as echoed by Speedwagone a created reaction.
Hence I am quite hooked to see Blizzard’s reaction to it all.

I believe aslo someone pointed out this is not just a measure affecting TRP3 but multiple addons, so interesting indeed to see how they react to it.

I mean, you just compared two entirely different dev teams, with VERY different current track records, and threw in… what I can only call Nonsense? So, yeah… Understanding, indeed.

I really hope they address this soon!
I have faith they will, but hopefully it is sooner rather than later. This will really hurt market & combat roleplay, especially if this affects Listener & Elephant too…

Ok, so yes, what you have typed here is true, WoW and Helldivers have two entirely different dev teams. But guess what, both of the games are Narrative driven MMORPGs. You might disagree with me, but, I see two live service games, and think to myself. What would happened if they would just switch? What would be the outcry?
