hope anduin stays evil after the jailer dies
he’s like
“oh hey being a baddie is actually pretty sweet, gonna stick with this lmao”
Truly a three-dimensional soul. . .
yeah that’s me
But real talk, I just find the “Why does Blizzard hate us?? Don’t they realise that without us the game would be dead because we’re the only ones left who care about the game so they should stop beating us down like this or there will be consequences…” Twitter posters (real quote btw) to be a little tired at this point
I’m not saying the quality of writing is very stellar, but frankly my dudes at the end of the day it is just a game and forming a parasocial relationship with a fictional race/character isn’t healthy in my opinion
I do like night elves, though. Just don’t like the nelfoids of which there is a very nuanced difference, for one is a normal person (see Nerathion) whose opinion I can understand if disagree with, the other one a member of the group of stans who harassed Loreology off Twitter with death threats and now we don’t get any lore questions answered anymore
it’s only a game
I just think it’s tired that whenever people are critical of some bad writing for the game people nod and agree because, well, it really is bad, but whenever the bad writing ties to [night elf related thing] it’s a “lol owned this is so good because it’ll make people that like night elves seethe lmao”
Even more so considering our already niche hobby is undoubtedly more affected by what degree of bad Blizzard’s storytelling is at - the worse it is the more people lose interest in playing around in the setting and that’s a loss for the RP community as a whole imo
Has WoW ever had something as dumb as this happen before? It’d be so out of left field and kinda great honestly.
I mean, I think your problem is moreso with them than any nelf player. This parasocial archetype can be found from any race/faction’s players. Even the Horde vs Alliance thing becomes parasocial and bleeds into IRL friendships, or has death threats and whatnot on top of it.
However it is also very annoying that when people write actually constructive criticisms or have questions that are left unanswered because the story devs continue their sadistical writing on Night Elven lore, it’s immediately dismissed as ‘haha lol alliance tears’ or ‘haha lol nelfposter tears’.
You sort of become a caricature opposing the nelfposters in the end, the yin to the yang.
this probably sounded way more defensive than i intended - in the end it’s also not that deep the other way around, it’s only a game - and i kinda dont wanna play a game where im subjected to cbt xx
seconding this, sure it’s fun to have big important moments like teldrassil burning for nelfposters, but… we’re also losing one whole zone to RP in, and have been gradually losing zones throughout the game. that in of itself is a cool narrative (waning importance and sway over land), but then you see a dichotomy of how your race is super powerful at times and then gets curbstomped again
Archbishop Benedictus being revealed as the Twilight Father kind of came out of absolutely nowhere. At least we got a funny voiceline out of it.
Yeah pretty much my thing with the whole ordeal, it makes for an interesting plot point but it’s then just cast aside on the altar of more cool Sylvanas having internal turmoil with her best friend Anduin while the Jaina & Thrall gang rolls up cinematics with cool music playing in the background, which is a bummer
perfectly balanced as all things must be…
But I understand the critique and get why it might be jarring as a night elf fan to see Tyrande denied her justice again (though granted, I have no idea what happens in the Battle of Ardenweald, wasn’t able to access it on PTR myself so idk where people get the news from) and generally prefer to form an opinion on it once I’ve seen it play out myself
At the same time I feel there’s a certain point where the outrage gets exhausting and a form of cbt by itself and I can’t help but feel like if one genuinely hates the writing with so much passion, is there a better way to spend one’s time? To vaguepost for a moment, I have seen same names complain years on end about it, swearing this time they’ll quit for real – and then they don’t. How much cbt must one subject themselves to?
But I do understand the critique and hope y’all get some story content you enjoy, but ultimately at the end of the day my stance is that it is really just a game and when it reaches a point of forming a parasocial relationship with it, I’m not vibing anymore
and instead of any on-going threads of story being elaborated on for your race, you’re kept in a limbo watching saurfang be sad four times over
love being the side character in my own story so to speak
I haven’t rly spoiled myself much either, but I totally expected Tyrande to lose a 1v1 because we know Sylvanas is the end boss of the raid, so she can’t lose before that (unless something something banshee form/saved by smth etc?). However, the entire Tyrande storyline is already rewriting BfA in what was meant to be a cool moment for Night Elves to suddenly be ‘lol ur all evil or smth idk’.
and i mean, i called it . . .
The current criticism is that instead of Tyrande being present in the final fight, she’ll supposedly be in a coma or w/e instead doing w h a t ? That’s anticlimatic even for Ardenweald’s own story.
I have seen many Nelf RPers stop RPing or change races they’re playing though - imo RP has directly suffered from the handling of the story. I don’t even know if the scene is active itself because I’ve grown disinterested in the game and rarely play it now.
Or,
either.
i’m an npc in my own life
Are they going to bring in Malfurion to wake her up because he’s experienced in the art of being in a coma
oh my god they are aren’t they
no it’ll be anduin or something since we haven’t seen Malfurion since 8.1 i think lol
or shandris crying for her mum idk
There’s a video on youtube somewhere of someoneplaying through it, the tl;dr is that sylvans is assaulting the heart of the forest but tyrande pops out of the maw to stop her and the invasion is thwarted. the night warrior thing turns out to be too much to handle at this point and ysera puts her into magical sleep
In and of itself I think that’s pretty fine and neat to have her involved in the Night Fae story but I think the concern of many people is that she likely does not appear in the upcoming raid because of it, while Thrall and Jaina play a prominent role during it - and they have a lot less to do with anything about Sylvanas’ story overall, whereas Tyrande’s entire story arc is based around being mad about Sylvanas just seems to be (literally lol) put to bed
big agree though, lots of wackos on twitter and the forums like this, be it nelfposting, orcposting or dark lady…-posting
Yeah my own concern with the way the story is going is that we just get a bunch of global reveals of the entire world of Azeroth suddenly knowing Elune is actually weak, evil, and kinda useless which would make it impossible to play the character I primarily play at the moment in a way that I’d enjoy which is a bit uh oh
I think the ‘scene’ for Nelf rp in and of itself is basically just guilds that almost never interact and there’s not really any hub anymore, regardless of quality of those (I have some peculiar Astranaar memories…) it’s just a loss for the RP community as a whole
this would be actually funny and i’m here for it
bit of a big post i guess but lots of posts while i was typing that i think mention some good stuff so
can’t even make of astranaar second-life RPers because they don’t exist any more either
truly everyone has lost in this situation
It’s his turn to be watching for 10K years over his partner and be burdened with leadership for once.
Tyrande frustrated wife confirmed.
Anduin: Tyrande, I know what it’s like to be overwhelmed by dark magics. My being possessed by the Jailer is exactly the same as your Night Warrior powers.
Tyrande: Yes, even though those are not the same at all, I will not correct you, I see how smart and wise you are despite being a literal baby.
Anduin: I’m helping
I honestly wouldn’t even know where to start.
To be honest I haven’t seen any mention of Thrall or Jaina being part in the raid either, the only recurring characters so far in the dungeon journal are Kel’Thuzad, Garrosh, the Nine Val’kyr (of which only 3 are alive, the other dead ones’ souls are summoned for abilities) and obviously Sylvanas as the final boss. Odyn’s Eye if that’s a minor plot line people still care about.
No reference to the presence of Tyrande, Thrall, Jaina, Baine, Anduin, or any other character like that makes an appearance based off the dungeon journal descriptions so far.
hate stans, simple as
