PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Agree but corruption was actually the best gameplay mechanic in all of BFA, SL, and maybe Legion too.

Idk man strangling baseline stat gains to then add them in as a “new mechanic” is pretty bland and boring.
Proccs were fun corruptions but they got nerfed very quickly.

I only liked the negative parts of corruption as fun and engaging.

It gave players a unique approach to gameplay

I think the chance to choose if to boost a stat or have an OP proc (which was never nerfed by much), it was amazing and well-balanced (in terms of fun) with the corruption debuffs. It offered a new way to play the game, giving vitality to BFA’s somewhat tired system. To the point that in PvP you could basically use players’ own corruption against them by freezing them in place and spamming that trinket which increases corruption, then kill them in one hit or one shot players with devastation or with tentacles. It changed the way things worked! Or get crazy DPS in mythic raids.

yeah but it made my character purple and i didn’t like that

That’s the plot of a new Mummy film right there

In a twist of fate, Brendan Fraser finds himself whisked off on an epic adventure to the wilds of Mongolia - not to destroy a risen mummy ,but to awaken one with the power to save the world from climate change.

Hot on his heels are the hired goons of Tex-Co Energy, determined to keep Genghis buried so they can destroy the earth with CO2 emissions.

Will Brendan overcome the forces of evil to save the day?!

Hated corruptions, even if it made your damage had funny moments but in principle, I hated it, simple as.

A bit of general prediction time here. Let’s say next patch releases late December (which I doubt because raiding and all) or early January. The likeliness of the world still not affected by the global pandemic are just as low.
Can we expect 10.0 in late 2022 or early 2023… Assuming they bail on the expansion at the .2 or .2.5 instead of doing a .3. 2023 seems… dreadful for Blizzard, I’d say even suicidal on their bottom line.

Let’s agree to disagree on “corruption added fun and different ways to play!” when all it was optimizing? You took flat stat gains, maybe the stat procc if you got a T3 corruption and for “fun” you took the RNG procs like TD, EV both of which got nerfed quickly until TD remained the only viable proc if you were A) a tank or B) melee. Negative effects were fun for the danger element and forced you to pay attention or risk getting 1-shot (or just face awful RNG with the shadow one spawning ontop of you with cloak on CD).

Was very easily negated by cloak, any kind of freedom or trinketing, latter being at the expense of sitting as a free CC target for the duration of your trinkets CD.

How to get crazy DPS in M+: play Fire mage or BM Hunter i.e the two S+ tier specs at the time and stack your relevant secondary stat corruption while your tank mass pulls with roots+slows. so fun.

But as I said, let’s agree to disagree on the fun aspect of corruption, each to their own.

Very based

Don’t feel bad about it - peak 90s Brendan Fraser was a certified hunk.

He used to be so pretty.

I’m very happy that he is seemingly getting everything back together now, the dude really had it rough.

I want to see Illidan to puppet Sargeras like Ratatouille against the Jailer next patch

I Think It Just Makes Sense

Yeah, fun is a subjective element after all and my take on corruption is personal. I think optimizations didn’t matter too much, devastation and tentacles were still crazy good + flat stat boost was massive ~ 90% mastery? hoot!!!

I actually liked the RNG element, is one of the things that made it funny to me - WoW has a lot of RNG in other areas (ie. gear) and it creates interesting dynamics and expectations that can be easily subverted. It’s nice, it’s funny, it’s chaotic, it creates comical situations etc. It’s not far-fetched to say that these moments are what makes a game hilarious and fun.

Not really imo, it was an OP move with whom I often won in arenas. You could see players panicking and if they didn’t focus on avoiding it (meaning they’d be exposed to other stuff)/reacted in time it would usually be a gg in a matter of seconds.

It was a fun, practical and functional mechanic.

:roll_eyes::smirk:

I think it was, yeah. Mechanics were good, often punished you and sometimes even for random things, which I find hilarious (twilight devastation on Maut anyone? it’s these things you remember with your guildies)!

I don’t think end-game was a pushover, fmage rotation was awesome and what’s more important, yeah; I think it was fun!

Corruption is over! Go back to talking about 9.1, nerds!

I think the patch is mega based

do you unironically think they’ll do something that unambiguously writes sylvanas out of the plot

Hahhahahahahahahahhahahhaah

I prefer the RNG we had prior to Legion and hell, even prior to WoD. It wasn’t 100% predictable, but sometimes you just got a nice procc and as such a burst of damage.
Unlike modern RNG which is either RNG loves you and you do absolutely no DPS compared to the godly RNG guy.

I had fun with old RNG that’s just all I’m saying.

Idk man, everytime I saw a mage/other root CC class try that maneuver I was quick to react. And if I weren’t then my fellow Surv partner had my behind. Was more fun seeing how they got upsetti spaghetti at outplaying that strat in the 1700-1800 bracket (We did it for the saddle mount as I didn’t care for rating and my partner was 2kish in 3s).

But yeah if you didn’t pay attention you’d have a bad time with the Thing from Beyond spawns.

Fun is subjective. Practical and functional is debatable, it was a reliable mechanic but it wasn’t necesarily a guaranteed win or kill depending on comp.

Flashbacks to TD proccing on Maut normal, bringing me down to <5% HP then dying to my own DoT while the frostmage was yelling for defensive CDs then yelled at by my own scrubs Ah yes, the fun times of playing with trash players.
Was more fun with our Fire mage speccing Arcane for Maut (After we had a nice cleanout of people) solely for the purpose of getting himself 1-shot.

That guy was a top-150ish player during the days of try-hard raiding btw, he also found ways to break the game in various ways and partook in a run that got him banned for a week during WoD. Sub 20sec Mythic Reaver kill and fat logs were worth it though.

Fmage rotation was and supposedly still is all about combustion windows, which if you find fun is a win I guess. Fun is subjective.

9.1 took too long and is a mess from all perspectives >:C

I realized they nerfed frost after I bought two legendaries (no comments here please) so now I’m frost (because I’m not wasting more time on torghast again) But I haven’t played much lately. I planned to focus only on RP at the starting, but the juicy PvP elite transmog might bring me back.

Hence I wonder, how is 9.1? Is it worth doing content again?

I’d say that depends on what you enjoy doing content wise.
