From a comment in the reddit thread: moon/owlkin (nurtured by Elune, per Night Elf beliefs) were modeled after the Stewards in Bastion. Even she thought they were too cute and needed to be replicated on Azeroth.
It adds up. Is there any argument against it? No.

Can’t believe night elves worship a dead high elf, this is Brettonia levels of decieved.
The thing is this is D.B. Weiss and David Benioff levels of writing that I know Danuser would use to “subvert expectations” as some kind of meta “it sounds so dumb but it just works” story reveal.
So now that we’ve confirmed that Sylvanas is Elune, what’s the opinion on if Malorne is Nathanos? Do you think Elu-vanas moved on or if she morphed her boytoy into a new stag form?
The worst part is this could damn well be legit and I hate it.
He used to be a hunter of stags, now he is one.

nathanos in pre-patch was a world boss for both factions (and loyalists in general being anti-both) making him a n*utral
