PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 1)

So these people have unironically been hyping themselves up for 2 and some change expansions now about something that was obvious from the getgo?

Yeah that sounds about right

People are seriously expecting too much complexity out of what we’ve consistently been shown to be a fairly haphazard operation written in inconsistent broad strokes where every big hint is a predictable foghorn of future events except when it’s not.

Said it for years, been called arrogant for it, yet I maintain; a lot of RPers are better writers than the paid staff.

a small margin of them, for sure.

the vast majority of RPers definitely aren’t

Many. A lot. Sure as hell not most RPers.

i somehow read past ‘a lot of’ and found your statement very bold, now i see it tho

about this tho idk, even if they expect complexity this particular example is a case of square peg round hole
it was open and shut from the get-go

then again this is the same audience that thinks anduin is a character so i’ll forgive them

Most players who think themselves capable of good writing aren’t objective enough to not be influenced by their own biases and put the spotlight on their favourite characters / race at the expense of those they hate.

There was one fan who got hired to write for a cartoon a few years back and the first thing they did was push through their personal ship at the expense of everything else

someone who obsesses over shipping is probably also not a great RPer :eyes:

also it’s not like wow’s writers are particularly objective and unbiased

they’re not but if the complain is that the writers aren’t objective and unbiased, replacing them with writers who aren’t objective and unbiased doesn’t solve the problem innit

no but the outcome might at least be funny instead of just sad

yeah that’s me :sunglasses: When I get hired at Blizz my first act as company director is dedicating a patch to the Vanessa VanCleef x Tess Greymane ship.

Love it.

I just wish WoW didn’t base its entire patch narrative on a series of cliffhangers and dramatic moments.

In the same vein I’m not particularly seeking a “Perfectly Balanced” writer regarding the story and investment. You do want someone passionated, but not someone obsessed with only a particular piece of the work either.

Their cinematics feel the same way as their 6 months sub travesty. Stay tuned and get the next piece of it in half a year so it makes sense and feel complete!

hire elenthas now, blizzard

Thats why I, when I get hired by Blizzard, want 3 co-writers to balance out my gnome fanboyism and Alliance preference!

I was thinking Mordi (night elven fan), Teral… WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU? and Boush.

That’s not fair. The six month sub cycle with mount whale bait is regularly planned months in advance, unlike patches.

Doesn’t really take a big brain to plan this stuff out either… Especially with the hundreds of companies already doing it so they’re all just copy-pasting from each other.

Still, designing an MMO to only have regular patches around the six months mark with the bait mount packaged in is a disgusting move.

but it is good business practise by todays standards

bobby needs another yacht to float in while reading the vitriol around the new 60 day sub mount

Nice transmog.

bobby doesn’t read it, his minions filter it all out so he only sees the praise coming from the whales

hardest thing in bobby’s life is deciding to use 50’s or 100’s for the yacht’s engine room
