Think about it. Going from painting to transmog is too slippery a slope for me to agree with.
Going from transmog to transmog however, that will rouse concern. If they remove or alter one set they could alter others. Even players who don’t use these items will oppose it out of worry their set could be next, for reasons that are perhaps not even yet on the table.
Transmog is a very popular aspect of WoW. Messing with it is a dangerous game even at the best of times, and this is without a doubt the worst of times.
Yeah I don’t think that makes anything to fix sexism. Not every instance of a naked/risqué woman is some kind of symbol of male dominance and oppression. I highly doubt even the most horniest of dudes were tugging it to those paintings. Would be better if they added some paintings of men instead.
Besides, I always thought the 2nd art (the naked lady on the couch) was a Titanic reference, you know the “draw me like one of your French girls, Jack” one. Seems like another case of overcorrection of an ultimately irrelevant thing.
I get what you are saying (and Nerathion), I just don’t really think it is as big a step for Blizzard to go from ingame paintings to transmog as you think it is.
I think they’re generally trying to tone down certain things and in some cases it makes less sense and in some cases more. Truthfully, I think I wouldn’t exactly mind mageweave set killing off the Goldshire corndogs.
Though I’d say the paintings are more in line with objectification so I can see why they’d remove it.
Yeah, cuz that’s gonna stop them lol. Change all the armor into burkas and you’d still see them getting it on merrily. Few things in life are eternal. Goldshire coomery is one of them.
See, that’s what I oppose. Yes you would kill off Goldshire dornhogs, but you’d take away transmog options with that.
Just because I/You/We do not think about it does not mean it shouldn’t concern. I hardly think about alot of things of WoW, doesn’t mean I wouldn’t oppose them radically (or “tastefully”) changing stuff.
Ugh, sorry I don’t know how to explain myself with an over the top example, but…
What if they suddenly decided that asian humans should come from asian-influenced areas in WoW because it could be construed as them thinking asian people (or their culture) are “beastly” (cuz pandaren) unless they come from “western”-inspired human nations.
Sorry if this is a bad example, I dunno how to explain it better
Edit: I wish I was as good with words like some of ya’ll so I could try and explain my stance better!
Bless them! Now do it for forums and all ours/their characters. (even tho I got only one person on perma-ignore).
Yeah, sorry… I am not seeing your logic here. What you describe is a much bigger change, likely to cause way more complaining if not uproar, and that that is why it’s different was entirely my point with the initial slippery slope worry in the first place.
In your particular example, if Blizzard were to start changing their heavy-handed cultural pastiches, not much would be left of the game afterwards.
Yeah, at this point I am looking at WoW from the outside. I am unsubbed. I want to see this game be the best it could be, I want Blizzard to one day be worth paying a subscription to again. If I didn’t care I wouldn’t be here now, after all.
So consider my views with that in mind. I don’t argue much about WoW anymore. I just observe. My expectations for what will happen are low. But there’s always some hope.
Maybe I would be more worried if I still was as directly invested, had as much riding on the outcome. But WoW isn’t without serious competition anymore, and I finally decided to what I should have done long ago - widen my options, for real.
