Starting with wod I followed the mindset that the launch and first 1-2 months are good enough to justify the purchase of the expansion. Shadowlands killed that too for me and next expansion would have to do something extraordinary to make me even consider it.
Aye, it’s like the Hong Kong fiasco; not many people really cared about the people. It was just internet slacktivism (thoughts and prayers ).
They ditched/protested Blizzard but then went on to praise game companies owned by Tencent or praised Disney/Marvel for their favourite movies/TV series. Despite one Disney movie having a thank you message in it to a local Chinese government which runs certain camps housing a minority.
Internet outrage is nothing, it dies in a week and blows past; Riot, Brewdog and countless others. All those outrages, lost to time. Like tears in the rain.
My favorite part about that was all the redditors going from “dumb instagram girls thinking changing their profile picture helps a country” to writing huge soylent essays about how slacktivism works and how burning their Overwatch collector’s edition is totally doing something.
Shadowlands kept me entertained for about 7 weeks until reality settled in “Wait… This isn’t actually fun.” I canceled my sub right after but I was one of those 6 months idiots so it kept going until July.
Although I agree that the expansion is fairly underwhelming, the circlejerking about how people who don’t seethe with rage at the very thought of Shadowlands and calling them soyjaks is very embarrassing to look at, you’re posting on a make believe video game role playing forum
It’s valid to not like the game and seeking greener pastures in its stead (and frankly if it wasn’t for RP, I’d probably be taking a break too), but at the same time ing on those who do manage to enjoy themselves and shadowboxing with the nameless, faceless “twitter people” is a bit sad
Absolutely the case with nothing to expect from any lawsuit. Just a chance to point and laugh but there’s certainly pathos in the revelation of horrible abuses and what may well matter most to the player; arrested develoment because drunk frat bros don’t work on new content.
I’m too tired to do internet meme history today but the bare bones of it is the soy = weak meme and the soyface beta-male oOo expression making the wojak drawing of the soyface the ideal shorthand for discrediting someone else.
What’s a soyjak anyway? Is it a pyjak made of soy? Kids these days and their impenetrable slang…
No idea either. I have made peace with my officially being too old to keep track of newfangled e-lingo most of the time.
It’s a good thing.
Yes, seriously.
The more people speak actual English, the more legible — and welcoming to people of all backgrounds — the web becomes. The friendlier towards non-native speakers, too.
It’s 4chan lingo for soy + wojak, so a beta male who eats so much soy products they become lesser men (because soy has estrogen…?) and only beta men enjoy stupid things, making their opinions invalid
Why the heck are we copying 4chan lingo on the AD forums? Especially one with manosphere/incel undertones?
(adjusts monocle)
It’s one of those things that becomes a meme, stops being a meme and then returns to being in use. There’s a decent amount of soyjak parody out there, referencing how use of the soy wojak was often a part of “my opinion = good.” “your opinion is represented by the soy wojak”
When you do things ironically long enough, it becomes unironic. I got sucked into campy musicals and romcoms this way…
the more you rave about soyjaks, the more you start to resemble one. the circle completes.
haha look at these people consuming the video game, unlike i, who consumes video game
is chewing on a n64 cartridge
Nyes, look at those game consumers.
Like the OOCers kvetching about RPers for being such nerds before going off to write an essay on why casuals are ruining mythic+.
Who among you actually consumed a video game when you heard the Nintendo switch cartriges taste bad? Because that was funny.
“We made them taste bad so children wouldn’t eat them.”
Adults: “Hmm… I wonder if they did.”
yeah i licked batteries as a kid, what of it?
tongue feel brr
I did too.
And also burnt a rend into my tongue with battery acid.
Woooo!
