I’ve said it elsewhere and I’ll say it here, but what sucks about WoW is that you can see people getting super hyped for other things. FFXIV is the obvious one, but New World was hyped too, people are loving Riot’s Arcane series and you can see the love the fanbase has for it.
With Blizzard I genuinely can’t remember the last time people were hyped for something. Burning of Teldrassil is the big one, but after that like… N’zoth? Until that all fell apart? I remember people were hyped for Ardenweald too, at least in my circles, but then that also kind of faded off as the expansion wore on.
I don’t even know if the stuff shown in 9.2 is that bad honestly, it doesn’t seem half-arsed or objectively awful, but I do know that it’s probably not good enough. It’s not going to bring the unsubbed back and it’s barely going to be enough to keep the currently subbed invested. I guess it’s good in a way that they’re acknowledging the errors of this expansion and are focusing on making the next one better (hopefully), but it sucks that SL never gets better and the little salvagable potential it has is likely discarded.
i agree.
The hype, the exitement has died down almost completely.
I was legit hyped for BFA when the trailer came out, Zandalar looked intreaging.
With SL the idea sounded interesting and from the looks of it, the zones had the feeling right.
But then it all turned into a circle jerking of Anduin - Jailor - Sylvanas.
Ignoring and abandoning every other character that wasnt a Human, an Elf or maybe…somewhat an Orc.
Vol’jun got some recognition.
Where is Gen’s son?
Where is Mankirks wife?
Where is Cairne?
Where is Varian?
Where is the old Pandaren Master who died on the Island?
Where is Arthas?
Atleast Garrosh got a short moment before it went back to
Anduin - Jailor - Sylvanas
I am so tired of it. World of WarCraft has evolved beyond Orcs and Humans.
Now its One Human and One Undead.
9.2 looks somewhat intersting, and i will most likely enjoy it since i am a lore nut, but i am more exited about what comes beyond the Shadowlands in 10.0
In an expansion around Sylvanas no less. Liam could have been this great bargaining chip or weapon of psychological warfare against Greymane and the Gilneans, but instead he’s just entirely absent.
Then again we only see the souls of night elves formed into a hateful amalgamation from those who died at Teldrassil, so I guess Gilneas as a whole was kind of forgotten given that there SHOULD have been dead worgen in that mess of souls.
I believe she’s in Maldraxxus actually! I can’t remember quite where she is but she’s one of the big bulky murder machines. She’s not a part of the campaign quest though, more of just an easter egg.
From Wowpedia:
After her death, Olgra’s soul was sent to Maldraxxus where she became a gladiator under the name Decimator Olgra . She can be found at the Burning Thicket, killing bloodlice.
With Baine, because neither of them are going to get seen for the rest of the expac.
I wouldn’t fully discount him having an appearance given that we’re confirmed to be fighting Anduin. If I had to bet I’d wager he’ll act kind of like Ysera did in the Xavius fight. I could very well be wrong but that’d be my guess.
Death is death, not a freezer until you have to make another cameo. Just because we swing through the afterlife doesn’t mean every last corpse in the history of Azeroth needs to be revisited. Let the necrolords Draka and Mograine be testament to that.
I seem to recall they were at least nice enough to confirm that Fel shatters the soul or something along those lines. Don’t quote me on that though.
Imo, the less they touch the Shadowlands the better. I’m fine with Zethra Mortis or whatever it was called, if it means they move away from ruining established lore and characters any further.
Tbh, it doesnt seem to be just the wow-team that suffers from this. Atleast in Hollywood they seem to be suffering from some creative bankruptcy aswell, if you look at the constant reboots they’ve been churning out there, no?
Let’s also not forget that their newest mode for Hearthstone that they delayed for over year is a bloody gacha game with PvP, meaning if you want to have a competitive chance against other players you need to MINDLESSLY GRIND or shell out as much dosh as the whales.
I love Blizzard’s games but they’re a terrible company - especially when you notice that they’re being outdone by Riot, who are ALSO a terrible company.
One week of doing dailies in Legends of Runeterra gives you roughly the same amount of cards as hitting Platinum in Hearthstone does by the way. And you only get rewarded for hitting platinum at the end of each month, meaning you get that reward at most 12 times a year in contrast to LoR’s 52. Oh and you have to win to get it. Oh and you can exceed that amount in LoR by just playing the damn game.
Anyway, buy the pig and a level 60 character boost PLS
I mean, I can understand it to some degree. After all, alot has already been done before in one medium or the other. I even notice this myself as I still aspire to write a book myself one day, yet when I come up with an idea, most of the time I think like “Oh yeah, they already did that in (insert other book/film/game) too. Damn.” Still, the effort to create news stuff without cannibalizing old stuff should be made.
Current media has become shackled by nostalgia. Remakes, remasters and reinterpretations are dominating the market. Hopefully people eventually realize that they’re just as uninspired (if not more uninspired) as sequels.
If you want to promote originality, spend your money on original IPs rather than adaptations and reboots and so on. If enough people do that, then perhaps the market might adjust in favor of that preference, instead of just churning out nostalgia-bait.
The new zone is aesthetically not very compelling and though it might not have been to everyone’s taste as the ‘progenitor’/‘origination’ place of all reality I’d have rather have seen it be a mashup of literally every zone we’ve ever seen, and some that we haven’t. A patchwork quilt where taking a dozen steps takes you through three different biomes. A true cheeseboard of enemies on display.
Just wanna fight Defias, some assorted quillboar tribes, maybe a centaur or two, put down (or support) some internal rebellions against current incompetent leadership.
I think the floaty balls are fine and they can totally be progenitors to floaty islands like Nagrand etcetera, but they’re still very much so human-like. I think they really shot themselves in the foot with the alien comment - especially as the creators are just… robots? Hence the very machine-y and graphical look of the everything.
I’d much rather have had an AI spew out a thousand of landscape paintings and the devs make something off of those, to be fair. Would be far more alien.
It looks entirely passable. Not great, not terrible. The skyboxes were weirdly empty and they really cranked up the fog so it felt like I was back in 2008. Like this shot>
It looks like Wrath. If you told me this was Sholazar Basin without any context I would 100% believe you.
EDIT: To contrast, this is what the environment and skybox looks like for Halls of Valor. It’s gorgeous and ethereal, they added 3d landscapes to the distance to give a bigger sense of width and depth.
You will, but it will be part 2 of the Warcraft-story and it will have been orchestrated by the Bigger Badder Liberator, the Jailer’s brother in the realm of Life, which we will only find out about 15+ years down the line.
We won’t find out why he did it, though. Or why he is the Liberator.
Like the Emerald Dream used to be a blueprint of Azeroth? And Un’goro Crater/Sholozar Basin a playground for the Titans to test things?
