PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 1)

I’ve horrified myself enough with the implications of his connection with Sylvanas and self-insert Nathan.

neat

The function has already been in the game files for several years with revealing clothing model tagged as female but outfits with no distinction having always been tagged as “both”. What this change does is possibly gives players the agency to decide between which model to display regarding outfits that have a gender coded model built in, such as skimpy clothing.

if this goes through we will finally have men in skimpy clothes looking like snacks :eye: :lips: :eye:

So uh, yeah, y’know how we thought/hoped the 3D printed First One prototypes were a result of the Jailer being petty, bitter, and trying to replace his siblings with ‘better’ versions once he could?

Ye-ah, haha, nah, we were wishful thinking there. They’re the OG prototypes for the First Ones.
WoW literally 3D prints gods.
What is even the point of caring about the narrative, at this point?

Guess who’s getting redeemed :slightly_smiling_face:

what a great lore, i love it!!¿

dabbing on the haters

generously this is talking about her breaking free of arthas, not the jailer

Imagine thinking yourself a judge and executioner by shooting an easily stopped arrow in a moment of stupid.

The formerly smart Sylvanas would have waited until he was vulnerable to finish him.

Guess she’s officially dumb.

Here is my prediction (I will put money on this!):

-Sylvanas will help you defeat the Jailer

-The main characters who want to punish her will be scolded by the others; “No! We can’t be mad; she was merely brainwashed by another, greater evil…who she has just overthrown!”

-The members of team “Scold Sylvanas” hang their heads in shame; how could they have been so foolish!

-After a moment of apprehension, Anduin shakes Sylvanas’ hand: “Guess we couldn’t have done it without you after all…maybe you’re alright, Dark Lady”

-Everyone laughs and claps, goes home hand in hand singing “I’d like to buy the world a coke…” as the music swells

-The camera pans up; the Jailer smiles and winks. Making everyone best friends again was his plan all along…

-The end

When you realise that because of Shadowlands the Jailor forced Arthas to force Sylv to kill her own people.

 :gun:

Based, punishing rights are reserved for cool characters and the last of those died in pre patch.

Provided that she’s talking about the Jailer and not Arthas (because it would be a little weird of her to suddenly launch into a tangent about Arthas during a patch all about stopping the Jailer)…

So, the ‘real’ Sylvanas never did anything wrong because she never had any agency or control over her own actions until she shot that arrow at the Jailer? Is that what this is supposed to imply?

If that’s the case then sure, Sylvanas never did anything wrong, because she didn’t perform her actions of her own free will, she was just a puppet of the Jailer. She can’t be responsible for her own actions if she literally couldn’t control herself.

Now, if that’s the case, that’s a whole heap of bad writing because:

  • Until now, there’s been no indication that Sylvanas has been controlled all this time, especially since Blizzard has gone out of her way to depict her servitude to the Jailer as a partnership of sorts.
  • She has made multiple shows of reluctance and disagreements with the Jailer, which is pretty strange for a controlled servant with no agency. Why waste the effort on making your minion appear as though they have free will?
  • At this point, it’s been pretty well-established what being dominated by the Jailer looks like, and Sylvanas has almost none of the telltale signs that define every other dominated lackey of the Jailer.

All of which adds up to make this implied lack of agency feel like it was pulled straight out of Blizzard’s backside, to retroactively ensure that Sylvanas was never responsible for any of her own crimes and that anyone who blames her is a big baddy. It’s not like we can deny it if it’s canon, but we can call it what it is - badly written.

… unless it turns out that she was actually talking about arthas instead in which case yeah thank you blizzard and dataminers for giving us this sylvanas monologue that tells us a whole bunch of things that we already knew

This is the issue with this entire Shadowlands story. You can’t just retroactively insert some puppet-master villain.

There’s later dialogue re: Arthas too, so it’s presumably related or comes up in some way.

Forgive him? For the atrocities he forced me to commit against my own people…
But there would be no justice that day.
For anyone.
That…is yet to come.

Personally I think it’s a pretty silly thing for Sylvanas to talk about her attempted killing of Arthas in WC3 as “atoning for her crimes” when she hadn’t done any except under mind+body control as a method of torture. Emotionally I can kinda get it, but it still seems at odds with Sylvanas’ characterisation (and her stated views of Arthas).
