I pity all those fans who tried to do serious linguistic reconstructions of Darnassian based on the words we know.

It really hurts me how close “Valas” is to Vanas, or Sylvanas.

As the Nelf word for Star now apparantly.

Would this make Nar’thalas academy “Star Home” academy?

Either Home of Unending Stars or View of Home, depending of how the word order is to be parsed.

Completely pointless speculation since Blizzard doesn’t care about these things anyway: it seems that in constructs “X of Y”, the X goes second in Darnassian and the Y first.

Elun’dris = eye of Elune

Kaldorei = children of the stars, and generally Xdorei = children of X

Xdrassil = crown of X

And so on.

If that pattern holds for this name Copeland made up on the spot generously revealed to us, then nar means “unending stars” and valas means “view”, so Nar’thalas would be Home of Unending Stars.

Isn’t orcish and thalassian the only ones with any consistency in translation? Other things are just made up on the fly, whole phrases made without translation and given an official meaning years after the fact no matter what the individual words are supposed to mean? Draenei language comes to mind.

So I’m probably miles behind this than everyone, but after all this I assumed Copeland was just someone who’s never played WoW in his life since he knows nothing about it.

Nope, apparantly he’s worked in Blizzard since 2010’s(atleast) and I’ll just quote the wiki:

" Sean Copeland, also known as Loreology, is the Historian Supervisor of Blizzards Creative Development team. Sean was promoted to senior historian around March 11, 2014. He was later promoted to lead historian in March 2016, and became Head of Lore in September 2017."

" Within the company, historians are “a repository for all Blizzard lore, providing counsel for the game development teams and the Creative Development Story group.” As a historian, Copeland handles lore reviews for publications and artwork, researches and documents game events and characters, maintains their lore bibles, conducts lore seminars for employees and takes part in a wide range of meetings from brainstorming sessions to process development. Historians keep track of what Blizzard decides is canon, they do not make the calls."

He can’t even do his job.

Just ask us RP nerds. We’ll do the job with… well, not a smile but certainly dedication and attention to detail.

This is either Blizzard screwing him over (un)purposely.
Or he massively sucks at his job, intentionaly, because I remeber we could ask him things and he’d come with usefull answers.

We’ll break down and gridlock over minutiae but we’ll find that esoteric lore particle that sorts out 14 year-old gordian knots of lore because our fun depends on a functioning setting with a degree of consistency.

And we’d get paid for it.

i genuinely have a hard time believing this is even real. this isn’t just a blunder. there has to be something seriously wrong for stuff so blatantly wrong to be published. there are people writing and fact-checking/proofreading this. W.T.F.

Paid for not even trying. Just coasting. The system rewards merit, doesn’t it?

Not really. They’ve been busy getting groped, getting drunk, getting high, stealing milk, playing CoD, having meltdowns on twitter against the fandom, getting pounded by a lawsuit, going on strike, staging a walkout, find a way to push every ounce of blame on someone or something else, remove content, recontextualize everything the toxic masculine old guard built as a foundation for their franchise, put together another shoddy content patch and deal with everything and anything even slightly disconcerting as if they were going though a midlife crisis.

Clearly they’ve been too busy to do anything but make a product that’s at least good in terms of quality and what their customers want.

And Beelzebob will still squeeze record profits out of this garbage bag and get another bonus, secure on his throne of lies. Meritocracy at work.

In theory. I’m of half a mind to attribute some (not all) of the errors to a rushed publication. Something tells me Blizzard wants every bit of a financial up-swing they can get at this point in time.
