When WoW goes into maintenance mode its sparse content patches will be entirely exploring what-if scenarios via the caverns of time, so get used to it.

Now see, that could have been a more interesting alternate universe setting than WoD could ever hope to be.

Garrosh follows Kairozdormu to a Alternate Draenor to help create the Iron Horde.

However, in this timeline, instead of preparing to invade Azeroth, they help Grommash unite the Orc clans to defend Draenor from an invading Legion-corrupted Human kingdom led by Lothar and Medivh, who would be filling Gul’dan’s role.

Metzen would have got his glorified Orcs of Orcnor expansion, we still would have got the Legion as the final badguys, AU Gul’dan could still stay alive and have his subplot, and Draenor would have been free. Just with a twist of Garrosh showing some character development and be focused on preserving the Orcish race from a corrupted aggressor (and die a heroic death while telling Thrall to sod off or whatever) and the Iron Horde not ending up as a joke but instead a platform for all the Warorcs of Orcnor loredumps and character arcs.

Alas, we got Warlords of Draenor instead.

The ones I sent you were in SW!.. If it was you I sent them to.

Because you reminded me of this my brain went into creative mode, since I’ve not done much in the way of magic items before now, converting some notables from WoW into 5e.

Anyway here’s a meme:

…but most of them will be serious.

Oh, you did. It’s just that it wasn’t the first time I’ve seen something like that.

I still don’t know why they had scales.

It’s a horny thing.

Moon Guard was ten steps ahead of AD and Blizzard all this time

waiting for the loremaster of Blizzard to retcon that it was actually a Wildhammer thane who summoned Ragnaros

This is their mantra.

One conclusion I’ve made from this book and reactions to it is that the Burning of Teldrassil was the catalyst that caused the entire Northern Kalimdor lore, and arguably most modern Horde-as-organization lore, to unravel.

It introduced too many implausibilities, all at once, as the writers bent the setting in knots to make it happen. Then the writers completely broke the setting trying to patch and handwave those implausibilities and inconsistencies in a sloppy, haphazard, ad hoc manner that showed complete lack of foresight and long-term planning.

This book is just continuing the trend. We’re asked to believe too many contradictory things, with too little justification and practically no trust in the storyteller left. We’re mocking all kinds of minor gaffes in this thread, and that indicates a larger problem: the current lore is not just inconsistent, but fractally inconsistent. It’s inconsistent at every level of resolution. Zooming in on any specific part reveals it to be just as broken as the big picture.

And there’s no one left at Blizzard willing or competent enough to fix it.

Bruh.

I have a copy of every single major essay I wrote during my under- and postgrad courses, sometimes two. I can’t even FATHOM what must be going through an author’s head at which point they decide NOT to get a print-out of their latest work. It just tells me that they’re not proud of it and, if so, WHY?

Blizzard, take notes. This is the correct use of the term ‘fractal’…

Good. You don’t set up narratives of lines getting crossed only to shrug it off unless writing an unrepentant villain and the Horde has had enough “are we the baddies?” moments. Stick to it or reform.

Y’all had your chance to crown me to show them how it’s done.

I dunno, I think I’d rather a mad red-haired person ruling Lordaeron than acknowledge half the “lore” of this expansion.

Uh this has always been the case.
Wildhammer.
What type of weapon is Sulfuras? That’s right: A hammer.
Is Ragnaros made out of Dark Iron? No, he’s made out of fire.
Therefore he’s got a much stronger connection to the Wildhammers than the Dark Irons.

Simple, QED, obvs, rekt.

Yeah idk, when choosing whether to shove a screwdriver in my ear or my eye, I’d rather choose neither.

The Wildhammers actually doomed Grim Batol on their own as they delved into deeper and deeper forms of magic in a desperate attempt to hold of the stalwart legions of the Dark Iron, until eventually they made contact with the horrific beings that always dwelt beneath Northeron, which is why the Twilight’s Hammer Cult later set up base there. It rose up and washed Grim Batol in darkness just as the Dark Irons broke through the gates, killing Modgud and trapping much of the Dark Iron army there while the Wildhammers fled, slowly twisting them in the Skardyn over time.

yes but you are a warlock smh
