PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 1)

A deliberate retcon, or the writer simply didn’t know? With Blizzard, I tend to lean towards the latter.

Hating on Knaak was the cool thing to do, but when Danuser took charge the writing became far dumber than anything he was mocked for.

Knaak was fired for our sins.

Knaak brought me the War of the Ancients trilogy which is largely responsible for me getting really into WoW lore and Night Elves as a race.

Sure they’re no The Last Guardian, but I liked them at the time. I did read them way back before Burning Crusade dropped though so I can barely remember a lot of it.

Knaaks generally wrote WoW stuff pretty good in an overall way. He gave attention to the setting. His weird/bad streak was to insert really bizarre little sprinkles into it with awful characters.

Danuser I would argue just doesn’t understand WoW.

Like modern-Krasus, Broxigar and Rhonin inserted in the WoTA-trilogy, instead of making Malfurion, Illidan and Tyrande the main characters :weary:

But like Akamito, the trilogy was the reason Night Elves became my favorite race!

We’ll replace them with Akamito, Kump and Levy.

I liked that there were characters from our present inserted into that situation with no familiarity of the events of the War of the Ancients, with Krasus as their guide.

I don’t love all of those characters, but I think they were a good device. Time travel stories are a bit iffy in general but given that the Bronze Dragonflight exists it’s kind of hard to not address the possibility of it.

I mean, he could’ve aswell written a story with a setting within the WoTA-era, without having time-travel involved. Especially since, even today, its an largely unexplored era, like so many other era’s of Warcraft.

I mean I don’t hate it perse, I’m just kinda… Neutral? about the whole timetravel shenanigans. Love the settings and everything surrounding it from the books, tho!

I’m sorry Wrathion. We’ve been through a lot of things together, but in BFA you felt more like a twitter OC than the ruthless Wrathion I knew and loved.

Friendship ended with Wrathion, now Sabellian is my new best friend

My heart lies with he who has a unique model, and an appearance on the loading screen.

But also maybe I side with Neltharion loyalists instead???

Wrathion. If only he didn’t massacre his way through his own dragonflight in Cata instead of finding in himself the willpower to cleanse them as he was ; No, I won’t accept that he can be as well child-like naive when he’s elaborating complex plans and rituals, talking philosophy and the nature of power, that’s what a Mary sue does ; He sent Garrosh and Kairoz for his “plan” to make an infinite Horde to fight the burning Legion but instead was the very reason it jumpstarted the invasion on Azeroth through Gul’dan ; Again, I have to say that he must be intellectually questionable when he thought the psychopathic Garrosh who takes order from no one was just gonna do as him and Kairoz said ; Ok I’ll give him a win for looking out for Ebyssian in some way and strengthening the PC but Wrathion isn’t Earth-Warder material. His methods are far too close to the Anti-hero type, not a noble protector.

Sabellian. I’m not gonna whitewash him too much for he indeed like all other Black Dragons was under the OGs influence and assisted Deathwing in his endeavors. Oddly though his recluse in Outland lessened the OGs influence on him giving him enough clarity to stay clear of Azeroth and even assist the PC in fighting Gruul and his sons then grow a clutch potential unaffected by the OGs and watching over them as their big brother. When it all ended, lorewise he just remained in his corner not causing troubles until DF. From the spoilers, he does seem a little self-serving and pragmatic as well, wanting the title because he’s one of the direct sons to Neltharion and because he actually did something to preserve his flight, not kill what little remained of them. Sabellian stan here, kill the false Prince.

Ebyssian. Unless his sense of loyalty towards the HMT isn’t absolute he’s clearly the far more balanced of the two above as Earth-Warder, gonna guess he’s also no longer bound to stay in Highmountain since the C’thraxxi issues were dealt with in the HMT recruitment quest.

Ah yes, the moment where Wrathion with the snarky tone of a Sonic OC telling the millenias old entity of pure malice and void gives him a quip then makes N’zoth rage. Truly the peak of his character arch.

I’m likely gonna see both rep on different toons, my only concern is how Blizz intends on responding to it or are they gonna ignore it all and just make the guy who’s on the loading screen art the next Black Dragons leader? Then again Krexxus being in one didn’t mean much in the end for him (I’m certain he was meant to be the next Primus).

This is for players that liked cataclysm and thought the world update was for the most part a good thing (me).

If Galakrond can be resurrected then so can Neltharion.

Gonna bring back the true Earthwarder and have him discipline his squabbling kids.

Man bring back my boy Malygos instead. He seemed like a genuine champ and bro before depression and untreated PTSD got the best of him.

Bring none of them back, that ish happens to often.

Can Galakrond be resurrected though? Like is there anything to the whole “resurrect Galakrond” thing beyond a Hearthstone expansion?

Anything is possible if you have Family
