Wait, what? That doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Cabbage patch
It doesn’t and they’re doing the leaders of those respective Flights dirty.
Alas, neither of them has had any character development what so ever anyways
Congratulations, Vyranoth! You get to be the aspect of… looks over the full set of godlike dragons embodying fundamental concepts Ehhh… all that other stuff. Weird superflous dragons need a representive. Enjoy.
Can’t even be saved by marketing, Tyrande cornering the buff arms niche but she does have that cold, dismissive personality for the people who love being belittled.
With how “Life” and “Nature” are so intertwined these days I’m not exactly clear how Red and Green portfolios even differ tbh.
Dream. That is all.
Oh wait, and what their breath does.
One’s green goop and one’s red fire, obviously.
Fire that either burns, heals or Bolvar’s.
Greens get acid(?) and sleepy gas.
Green Dragon fire breath if I remember correctly can put you to sleep but I wouldn’t be surprised if it made everything bloom and all… Which is exactly what the fire breath of the red dragon does according to the aftermath of the wrathgate cinematic and the DF cinematic where Alexstrasza creates more life/plant life.
They really didn’ t think this through did they? “We absolutely want to riff on the DnD color of dragons and we’re gonna use the colors that DnD has cemented as evil aligned to be in fact the good aligned in WoW.” but even in this simplified version of it two of them feel redundant.
What are the white scale dragons
what’s their vibe
You did it, Vyranoth. You defeated me. You really are the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight.
In some alternate universe, the White Dragonflight were blessed by Golganneth with dominion over the sea and charged with containing the horrors of the depths and preventing the surface species from discovering them. Their breath weapon is a fierce burst of wind, salt and seawater that is capable of scouring flesh from bone, such is the force behind it.
It’s the only niche I can think of that isn’t already taken.
I don’t think they have one, some old lore suggests they are your average dragon whose scales have turned white instead of blue/red/green/black, just like… an albino: lighter skin than normal.
Not sure it’s even canon, since it is some random implication in the albino drake reward, or something like that.
Edit.
I don’t mind Vyranoth too much. There is some inner conflict within her which makes the character compelling. Unlike most WoW characters, her character arc resolution cannot fully heal her: she’s still losing her brother, Fyrakk, and has to find a compromise which involves choosing the less awful option. By far, while she is a good character, there is still room for inner conflict, and hopefully we will see her carry such a burden in the future.
More than any other Aspect in this expansion it feels like there is some good depth to her character.
That being said, she really does not need to lead the Thorignir or the Netherwing. Thematically they have nothing in common with her, and I believe they should have had their own representatives without being Aspects.
I’m gonna headcanon and say they serve the opposite purpose of black dragons - while the black flight safeguards the earth, the white dragons are entrusted with the heavens.
Also called the Celestial Flight, the white dragonflight rarely if ever descends to Azeroth and lives apart from their kin. White dragons serve as messengers, scouts, and heralds of the Titans, floating upon astral winds and swimming through rivers of magic in the great dark beyond. They are often called upon to check in on Constellars and other Watchers.
Rarely is the white dragonflight drawn into war directly, and their abilities and habits focus on speed and evasion instead of direct confrontation. They are for more likely to flee than fight. White dragons never travel alone unless absolutely necessary, owing to how big space is - get lost on your own you’re lost forever. They lack the ability/training to enter visage forms, having never had need to do so.
White dragons primarily sustain themselves on solar energy, leylines of magic, and occasionally space whales, which are a delicacy to them.
The existence of white scales on Azeroth is owed to a quirk in dragon physiology - while 99% of hatchlings match their parents, 1% may bear a different scale colour (be it white or another). Typically, white scaled dragons born on Azeroth inevitably find themselves called inexorably to space, and eventually leave their blood families behind, never to return.
Their hatcheries are typically built on desolate rocks or unvisited moons, away from mortals and other threats. The sole construction and ‘home’ of the White dragonflight is the Chronicle, a vast magical archive containing the accumulated knowledge and memories of every white dragon who has lived and died.
Following the Titan’s death/disappearance, the white dragonflight’s dedication has shifted from serving them directly to cataloguing knowledge and information, though to what end isn’t clear - perhaps they don’t even know themselves.
As they rarely are seen on Azeroth, typically the sole experience of a white dragon is perceiving a small group of them as shooting stars, which is usually seen as a sign of good luck. A common superstition among Pandaren is that children born beneath such stars are destined to be Lorewalkers. While it doesn’t always work out that way, it does seem more common than not.
A secret patch eh? Maybe a long over due troll-patch…
A lot of the ideas for Dark Ranger came from the Dark Ranger archetype in WoW, like Dark Chains is inspired by Sylvanas’ battle with The Lich King in the Shadowlands cinematic
Now thats not really an iconic Dark Ranger talent, is it? Its only been ever used once, and its in the cinematic for the most horrivle expansion ever😩
I’m not much of a gameplay expert, but there’s an upleasant trend I’ve noticed regarding the hero specs.
-
For San’layn, their Death Coils and Death Strikes have a 10% chance to make their next Heart Strike or Scourge Strike become Vampiric Strike. This is what this spec is built around.
-
For Mountain Thane, their Thunder Clap, Revenge, Raging Blow and Execute abilities have a 10% chance to also strike an enemy with a Lightning Strike. This is what this spec is built around.
-
For Lightsmith, while wielding a Sacred Weapon, their spells and abilities have a chance to deal additional Holy damage or healing. This is what this spec is built around.
-
For Dark Ranger, they get the Black Arrow ability, which deals damage over time and has a chance to reset the cooldown of Aimed Shot or Barbed Shot when it deals damage. This is what the spec is built around.
-
For Chronowarden, their Empower spells send up to 3 Chrono Flames at their targets. Chrono Flames have a chance to grant them Eseence Burst. While this isn’t what the spec revolves around, it is their capstone.
The Keeper of the Grove and Elune’s Chosen are different and both revolve around augmenting iconic cooldown abilities instead, but the majority of hero specs seem to revolve around procs. This is augmented by some of the other talents, but it does seem like a bit of a problem to me.
These specs don’t seem like they will feel very iconic or heroic if the primary thing they will do is add another roll of the dice onto a bunch of the abilities in your rotation.
Dark Ranger shouldn’t be in the heroic talents at all. It’d better suit for Forsaken of all kinds as a tint to the abilities.
I mean, class/racial tints is something we’ve wanted for ages now anyways…
So why would they start listening now?
There’s also these two, though they’re not nearly as exciting as Dark Ranger due to the lack of lore attached.
The monkey pawl curled.
We wanted race skins for classes, so we got Hero Talents…
