My friends, we have peaked.
That’s pretty much blizzard full stop, doing what they should have done years ago. Showing up late to the party only to find it’s already over.
looks at HoTS and Overwatch
It’s why I’m so critical and dubious when they throw out these QoL things. If they wanted to improve the game they’d have done it sooner, like around the time competing MMOs started doing whatever the thing is. Instead it feels more like “in case of subscriber count dropping break glass.” situation which makes me suspicious of whether it really is a change in design style or just subscription bait.
Here you go, SELFIE CAM!
But it did cost us a raid tier!
See, my personal opinion is essentially “So what?”. Better late than never honestly. Even if its improvements they are only doing now to increase player engagement, its still good they are being implemented.
It is perfectly reasonable to criticize Blizzard for not doing these or other QoL changes sooner, because they are slow at it & have been for years. But I don’t think it should be criticized for being implemented at all even if it is late. It’s still a bonus that it’s being done, regardless of reason or how late it is.
Next bit is not directed at you, just to clarify that, but it’s related to what I mean since I’ve seen it brought up other times by others:
I’m on the same mind whenever people have complained that the more inclusive features such as new skintones or the voice options etc are “just for attention, they don’t actually care”. Again, so what? It’s still a good addition and adds quite alot for many players without taking anything away, it is still a good bonus to the game regardless of if their reason is greed or desperation or anything.
TL:DR absolutely fair to criticize Blizz for adding stuff late, but I think its bit off to criticize the stuff being added at all because it is late.
Never mention that cursed patch again!
Bit weird for some folks to say “we needed this, how dare you add it”.
Everything a subscription-based MMO does is subscription bait anyway. Compelling story? That’s bait. Cool characters? Bait. Quality of life features? You guessed it.
The person designing it might be passionate for what they’re doing, but their bosses? They don’t care about that, they just want numbers to go up.
I just wish they didn’t make it such an low effort thing for the darkest skintone.
:peers_at_handpalms:
Then again, how many of our characters have bare soles or hands, so I get why they did it this way, I guess
That’s more of a misfired critique at systemic issues than something solid but it’s often turned into a bigger thing than it needs to be.
Oh no, our soulless corporate overlords gave us a good thing for once. Yes, they don’t care about diversity, no they don’t respect the customer, whatever ideology they’re pushing is the Almighty Market but I got a new hat for my enby dragon.
But you can’t see it when you are a dragon.
It’s a rhetorical generality as to the addition of new shinies.
I want to be able to show my hat like that NPC in SW!
there is a dragon with glasses and it makes me angy that mine cant wear them
Just another example of what models are capable of but players are denied.
Hats.
With.
Hair!
smashes fist on table
My very own fuzzy top hat to comb every morning.
Actually it cost us two raid tiers, two zones and two capital cities.
Shattrath City Raid and the Faralohn/Ogrezonia raid, the aforementioned zones and the Karabor and Bladespire Citadel capitals.
Creating new player models hard work guys.
It’s not like a privately ran server hasn’t created dozens of customisation options years before Blizzard did for the races on their build oh wait.
looks like tauren and non-tauren are getting different rewards for the baine quest
The totem weapon, perhaps? That was datamined a while ago.
Gods I hope so, that’s decades overdue ._.
Hopefully, though I’m still curious what the unknown condition is that changes the reward.
Related (kinda), Trial of Style starts next week.
