If they referenced anyone but two dead men they’d actually have to start writing an existing alliance-side animosity against people like Jaina for her grim shenanigans. Can’t have that.
Much safer to just say: well these two guys that died well over a decade ago were nasty, I guess. That way they don’t have to actually develop their writing with the statement in mind.

Even then they could just as well have said blackmoore who abused the orc prisoners and wanted to use them to conquer Lordaeron or hack the orc encamptments if they really wanted to stretch it.
Heck he could have named Garithos and it would have made more of an impact.
Using Arthas and Daelin as bad examples is about as strawman as Medivh, just because they all did a bad and were humans does not mean their mistakes is the alliance as a wholes fault.

So 10.2 will be definitely green dragon patch. maybe red dragons to, but 10.1.5 gives us big hints about time problems so it is possible that patch 10.2 will be about green, and bronze dragons? Nozdormu and Ysera in Legacies seemed pretty close to eachother ( clever foreshadowing? ) On the other hand, red and green have a lot in common. However, I would prefer to see 10.3 focused on red dragons as Alexstasza is actually the main character of this expansion and the leader of all dragons. Legacies have strongly pointed Nozdormu as a important character, but I don’t want timetravel woogie boogie to be what awaits us at the end of Dragonflight. I want as few problems with time as possible (Still remember Wod, eww)
It was Anduin talking with Saurfang. He could have easily mentioned his own failures like with how he approached Garrosh in War Crimes while Saurfang already condemned his former warchief as a power-crazed lunatic during the raid.

If my faith in the writers were higher I might believed it was intentionally bad choices because Anduin is not a very good diplomate, but as it is, I think the writers just wanted two names one that is famous and one lots of new players probably only learned about in that very same expansion.

Varian didn’t win that war. The Alliance as a whole hasn’t won a single war since the Second War, the Horde has won all of the wars since.

I wanna make a counter argument but truth be told.
3rd war was lost? but at least the legion invasion was banished.
siege of ogrimmar was a joined victory with horde and alliance, same with the 4th “war”
the “war” in suramar was also a joined victory.
When I think about it I can name a lot of battles they won, but not that many wars where they stood victories alone after the 2nd war.
Knowing deathwing’s type is vital deep lore, key to understanding his pathologies. He just needed a good mommy.

Tactical victories but strategic failures as they grew the horde and stabilized its weaknesses. The complete opposite of success.

I think killing a man who was eating an entire old god heart and waging heavier war than any before on the Alliance was, in fact, a good thing.
Toppling the tyrant is good, leaving the horde to consolidate without at least severe penalties is a self inflicted wound in the long term. Instead, land concessions were made, rewarding the deposed tyrant’s aggression.
Somethingsomething honour I guess.

He was also malygos’ lover so what does that say huh
Watch your back, Alleria…
I remember how much discussion/hype/drama Varian’s whole “If you screw up again, we will end you” caused, only for absolutely nothing to come out of it.

The very definition of an empty threat no even his son carried out.
Not even Jaina who wanted it dealt with then followed through, as she instead regressed 12+ years of character development to her WC3 persona following a single trip to the emerald dream.

My man really tried to throw the threat of a century while in the deepest depths of the Horde’s basement surrounded by the Horde’s mightiest entirely surrounded by the Horde’s army.
I respect the hustle but he’s really stupid

Reason number #75651848585 killing Varian was a terrible idea. He had the power of agency and plot-movement.
In fairness the Dwarf Legions and Gnomes were waiting literally just outside and the Night Elves were outside Orgrimmar. He did have a legion of Footmen with him I suppose.

Don’t worry she also launched back ahead afterwards- it was very weird. Jaina is an eternal mess.

Varian got ashed before he got the chance to rage against sylvanas’ imperial ambitions. Also, in a meta sense it makes a more satisfying story for the horde to have to question themselves again rather than the impotent punching bags in blue meekly protesting yet another red conquest.

I am again re-visiting my gripe that I think it was fine that she and Katherine bonded and re-connected ,but Katherine had zero reason to step down as Lord Admiral, let alone give it to Jaina who had ZERO reason to hold that title.
